  • Check engine light came on? Limp mode activated? 4LO light lit up? Your secondary air injection pump just took a dump. Lexus knows it eventually will. Well....thanks to Machine323, he came up with a mod that replaces your crappy OEM filter.
    Here is the Amazon link to the filter i used.

    Love ALL your vids. I always learn something. Just 2 days ago I saw the one where you removed the rear left tail light. It was ULTRA helpful because I used that particular point of entry to run the fuel line ( used fuel line because it's super sturdy) to the rear differential breather. All the other videos were saying to cut a hole in the fuel compartment for access, which I did not want to do. Another one said to remove some panels under the car then find an access point under there to feed the tube and I was lazy and didn't feel like removing a ton of panels. Took off the light assembly zip tied the hose with the air breather and ran it straight down.

      @@GXBOB Another thing I'm wondering. You do a ton of things but I haven't seen you install illuminated door sills. I think it's a cool mod, but when I have looked I haven't seen anyone do it on their GX. Also when I look for the parts it's unclear if maybe the luxury trims have them and if they would actually plug and play into my Blackline edition.
      You also frequently say your next vehicle will also be a GX. So with that in mind what's your take on the soon to come GX 550? I'm sort of considering it, but it kills me that it won't have the V8, no KDSS, unless you go to the overtrail. Will the Adaptive Variable suspension be enough on the Luxury Plus? Would just love your take. At this point I'm thinking the Overtrail to get everything, but then no third row. I'm just all over the place on what I would pick.

    I did this MOD last week after watching this video. I used the K&N filter since I live in Vancouver B.C. Canada and the price for each filter was 1 dollar difference so I went with the K&N. I want to mention the K&N filter fits but it is tight. When finished it will be sitting against the side of the power steering fluid reservoir. Should be okay since the top of the filter is rubber and soft. You may have to squeeze and push things to get the cap on correctly with the K&N, but it does work. Thanks again ! @@jimilianhernandez8074If you bought the correct size it would not touch the reservoir at all. There is actually a lot of play to move it in and out of the SAIS assembly. In the event that u did purchase one that was longer than usual, it would still not affect it since the top of the breather filter is made out of rubber/plastic. The reservoir would just act as a support. The breather is super lightweight and won't cause vibration scuffing.

    Great video Bob. Happened to my 07 Tundra. It has two of these. It also has a really neat computer that automatically puts the truck in a “limp mode.” so you can’t ignore the problem. I think the engine works fine if you can bypass this pollution item/device, but you also have to “trick” the computer into thinking everything it is still working. I didn’t want to use the bypass/computer trick kits though. Mine went into limp mode on a hill, and my engine light went on. This would be really dangerous if you were on a long uphill in the middle of nowhere with semi’s passing you at night. The Tundra will only go about 30mph in this limping uphill situation. Can’t believe Toyota is allowed to have a non-emergency system that does this to you while driving? My mechanic did a computer reset just to get me home until my parts arrived and the engine ran perfectly on the way home. It went back into limp again the next time I started it while I was on my way back to my mechanic again for the repair. I first went to the dealer for this “service” and they acted surprised like it almost never happens, then I read the recalls and forums telling how chronic the problem is. I complained to the dealer and Toyota Corporate for recall repair, but both said mine was well out of warranty at 90,000 miles because of age. $3000 from the dealer to replace the whole “system” only to maybe have the problem happening again. Local Japanese auto mechanic fixed it for $1200 with both new OEM pumps even though only one was bad. Will be checking your simple mod out on my 04 GX470. No problems yet at 170,000, but definitely worth $30 not to have this happen again. Is it the same part and easy fix for the 04 GX470? Another way to avoid the problem is to keep your car out of rainy wet climate…like Washington State where I live! Thanks again for your great video’s. Every Toyota owner should subscribe to your channel just for this video alone!

      Hey Blankenship, thanks for comment. This has happened on both my 470 and 460. I was only able to do the mod on my 460 since it was out in the open and took as little as 15 minutes to do. I was able to drop off my 2008 GX470 back in the days at the dealership and they took care of the problem noting the recall was a popular item at the time (and it still is). The 470, from what i heard and read on the forums, is a lot more work involved as you have to start removing manifolds, etc...I planned to do a video for the 470 right before all these vehicle prices started to skyrocket. Because of that, i never was able to pick up a 470 to tinker around with as that was my original plan. Again, thanks for tuning in Blankenship and i will eventually get around to picking another 2008 up some time in the near future.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  Před 2 lety +2

      I've looked into AGM batteries a year ago. I've taken some considerations into the length of time i own my GX, the cost, the advantages, and the disadvantages of buying one. If i were to get a new battery for overall value and performance i would stick with a Gel battery over traditional and AGM. Because, even though AGM is built to run and sustain a lot of your electrical toys on the GX, the advantages don't justify the cost in my opinion. My car is in southern California with perfect weather year round, i don't have a 5 amplifiers, 8 subwoofers, and a wheel chair lift equipped in my GX. My lower cost interstate battery upgraded from 24F to 27F with more CCA has a warranty if it should fail on me. I also have AAA. I DO NOT want to throw in random aftermarket diodes to accommodate a AGM battery voltage requirements into my car because some dudes "figured" it out. My batteries only purpose is to start the car and nothing else. Soooo......the AGM battery doesn't make sense to me but to each their own.

    Hey Bob. Enjoyed the video and the instructions, thank you. One question as I just finished this mod yesterday, do you put the black cover back on top hiding the filter? I see you mention that people in California should but I didn’t understand if you can drive with it on long term. Seems like it would cover half the filter with the foam glued underneath the cover.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  Před rokem +2

      You have to remember that prior to this mod, it wasn't an open-air system. Your Pump had a small dome cap that only had small slots allowing air to enter. Now, with this mod, if you add the black housing back on, your Uni filter is exposed to the entire bottom half with is much more than the amount of air the original cap was allowed in. So whether you install the black housing back on or not for the long term isn't really detrimental to its function. You can do what some folks did by drilling air holes into the black housing to allow more air in or just leave it off. In California, we have to undergo a visual inspection for emissions to renew our registration so that housing needs to remain "oem", hence why i left it alone.
