You need lots of water for your wash n go to perform. Also, if you've not been doing wash n go before, your curls won't form properly because if you've been wearing stretched styles, it will affect your curls.
Water is the ultimate curl definer in wash n go styling.
Also, the type of the leave -in used affect the performance of gels.
So, a heavy duty gel is the best if you want serious definition.
Moreover, Eco styler Olive Oil heavy-dutyuty gel.

A lightweight gel on 4c hair will not give you a defintion for long. 4c hair has more frizz than curls when it's wet, damped, semi-damped because the frizz takes over. If your hair is just full of curls when wet/damped then it s not 4c. The gel helps to smooth cuticles hence taming the frizz to only have the tiny curls are left. Gel tames frizz better and longer than a mousse for instance. A stronger gel will tame it better and longer than a light one. So depending on your texture, gel , ligh gel or mousse will be better. If you have 4c hair and do not want to do your wash and go everyday but more like every 3 days you need a stronger gel. But yes using it when your hair has the mist curl (soaking wet for 4 hair) is the best moment to use it. But be careful to not use to much either.

For my hair the ice curls actually elongate your curl. If u want a bouncy curl use don’t shrink curl
