- In this video on the Hemi powered Model A Hot Rod build, I work on the trunk hinges on the body side. I will replace the hinge portion on the trunk in the next video and I will begin final fitment of the trunk soon. It's almost time to start fabricating the rear floor pans and install patch panels!

Pivot bolts should be easy to make if you have access to a lathe. Just take a long, fully threaded grade 5 or 8 bolt and turn off the threads you don't want to the size shaft you do want. Or use all thread and do the same, welding a nut on the end to make your own bolt.
Years ago, before having a lathe, I would have ground off th e threads on a grinding wheel, chuck the bolt in a drill press and go at it with a file. Amazing how good you can work it that way, if you take your time and have patiernce.

I don’t have a lathe, but I do want one. I’ve been waiting on the right deal to pop up. I think I’m going to try to make the bolts I need using the drill press and file truck. We will see what happens!
I really wanted to watch your video on the trunk hinges ----- because I have a '30 Coupe --- that is exactly like yours -- the two piece --- was it --- Built that way --- we don't know --- 93 years of history missing here -- But --- it has a Rumble Seat -- with those two plates up on the upper part like what you are working on ---- I don't have any use for a Rumble Seat --- want to convert to a trunk -- get more use out of it --- When they were built --- they could go either way in the build --- So -- with my Rumble Seat -- the plates were added to fill the holes ------- Thank You for the Video ---- Rodney
Thank for the comments Rodney. I’ve wondered if all the rumble seat cars already had the trunk hinges in place from the factor to fill the holes. I don’t know the answer to that. I do agree that you will get more use out of the trunk.
This is the first time I have seen someone trying to remove rusted screws without using some kind of penetrating oil.
Oh man, just keep hanging around for more how-not-to videos! You never know what you’ll see me do. All I can say is, everything I do is for a reason. These fasteners were no good, badly rusted, so the intent was to break them off just to get it apart. No amount of penetrating oil was going to save these or make them come out.

Coffee time ! What year,make & size hemi do you have for the car ? about that swap meet, film them when ever you go. It'll still give you good weekly content for the channel
The Hemi I’m going to put in the car is a 1955 Desoto 291. I normally do video the swap meets, but this time I just took a break. I’ll video the next one for sure. Oh, Larry, Boxcar’s Garage has a video up of the swap meet, I hung out with him most of the show, when I wasn’t out shopping.

@@briansaier4929 no sir, the hemi you are referring to is the early 331 Chrysler. Later 331’s had the conventional bell housing.
Those aftermarket pieces arent always what they are supposed to be and sometimes it makes more sense to fix the old rusty piece of crap. Those quarter panels sure looks better without the handles!
You are so right, the aftermarket usually just gives you a foundation to work from, but always fall short of a “perfect” part. Happy Easter.

Are you going to keep it a rumble seat since that’s how it originally was or just leave it as a trunk?
The rumble seats were removed many years ago and a trunk lid was installed. The only trace of a rumble seat left on this car was the grab handles on the quarters and the steps on the lower crossmember and the fender. I’m leaving it a trunk because I believe it’s more practical in our current times. With the way we travel now, and the speeds we travel, there’s really not much use for a rumble seat other than riding in a parade maybe. So, I’m going with the trunk.
@@phillipshotrodgarage That’s very true. The rumble seat is definitely not safe to ride in and probably really wasn’t technically safe when new either. 😂

@@phillipshotrodgarage very true. Also I enjoy watching your videos. I just found your channel a few days ago. So many model a/ rat rod build videos on here and a lot just end after 2-3 videos with no updates and people that haven’t uploaded any videos in like 2+ years.
I know what you are saying. There are a few channels I liked to watch, until they abruptly ended.
