Shirou is NOT the classic "I want to be a hero" type of character. The description for Shirou is "I need to be a hero, because that's the only way I can forgive myself".

No, there is being a "hero" like these versions are, but they can not be called a "Hero of Justice". Then again, that ideal is in itself pretty warped if Kiritsugu and Archer are anything to go by. HF and Miyuverse Shirou are Anti-Heroes. Both the opposite side of the coin to what Kiritsugu and Archer are (which is... ALSO Anti-Heroes). While Archer or "Kerry" sacrifices the few for the many, Alter (how I like to call these versions of Shirou) will sacrifice the many, and I mean the MANY, for a precious few, or even just one person. One scenario I can think of how this can easily twist them into villainy is if, say... If Sakura/Miyu died. Then Shirou would find himself face with the chance to bring their only precious person back using the power of the Holy Grail. These Shirous have stated time and again they'll let the world burn to have the person they want. Thus... Who's to say he/they WON'T turn to Angra Mainyu, and with him, ALL THE EVILS IN THE WORLD, for the chance to see their beloved back?

It's the last fight in heaven's feel where Kotomine comes literally out of nowhere and him and Shirou fight barehanded with no magic as Shirou's body is turning into literal metal spikes. Every time Kotomine punches Shirou he breaks and cuts up his hands but everyone time he does the force travels through Shirou's body causing him intense pain. They are in an underground cavern that is collapsing around them. Both of them are dying and it's a fight to see who dies last. (Kotomine had his heart destroyed in a fight with Assassin where everyone assumed he died so he's on borrowed time and Shirou is losing his mind and his body is turning into a sword.)
Yeah, the anime loses a lot of his character because he is usually too polite to voice his inner snark. I wish they would have included some of his inner monologue in the anime. Edit: Also some of his reasoning behind is actions.
@@MrInuhanyou123 I think it's pretty great so far. Something that feels totally different from the anime is that in the VN, there's genuine fear when a Servant is about to use a Noble Phantasm. Like when Cu was about to use Gae Bolg, the situation gets much more tense and time seems to slow down. Meanwhile the anime is like "hey look at their cool super move!" Both are cool as hell but the way the VN handles it is much more frightening.

No it wasn't. The manga fight was hype as fuck, the anime version couldn't deliver. It had some interesting parts like the constantly rotating camera angles as he holds off Angelica before Kuro shows up, but in general the animation and choregraphy is so badly done in comparison to other fights in the series that it falls massively flat. Compare the choreography in Illya v Alter Saber to this for example. I'm just glad the original anime director is heading up the movie about Shirou's past, because he can make great fight scenes. Look at what they did to literally the first version of Nine Lives Blade Works to ever appear in an anime, it was awful.
Yeah I have heard that the manga version is 100 times better, but I guess for me even with badly done choregraphy and not so good animation, because I waited for Shirou to show up so much, it was still hype to me. Yeah it doesn't hold it that well compared to some other great fights ( Shirou vs Berserker and Shirou vs Kirei in HF being my favorite ones ) but I still felt the impact of it.
It had impact, sure. It's just that as a manga reader we waited around two years for even a hint that he would fight and when we do it's so badly choreographed for the most part that it's not that much more hype than your average anime fight. If you want to read the manga to compare his fight, read Fate/Kaleid Prisma Illya Drei from chapter 22 onwards. it's seriously great. I'm giving you the exact chapters because you may be like me and hate lolicon, and I didn't exactly enjoy having to read through the fanservice to find Shirou's part.
I did plan on reading the manga at one point, and I was told the manga had a lot less fanservice and filler then the anime. When I read the manga eventually I'm sure I will like it a lot more then the anime one, Fate is known for not having good adaptations after all. And a movie about Shirou's past you said, that would be good.

You included all the girls, which is great, but the first person Shirou saved was Kerry. Shirou being alive, and carrying on his dream (even if he didn't truly understand it at the time) is the salvation I think Kerry needed, even in the depths of his despair.
To find a man with that much skill, determination and will is no easy task but if you open your eyes a bit more then you can see that those skills, will and determination are a part of every man but just displayed differently.

No, there is being a "hero" like these versions are, but they can not be called a "Hero of Justice". Then again, that ideal is in itself pretty warped if Kiritsugu and Archer are anything to go by.
HF and Miyuverse Shirou are Anti-Heroes. Both the opposite side of the coin to what Kiritsugu and Archer are (which is... ALSO Anti-Heroes). While Archer or "Kerry" sacrifices the few for the many, Alter (how I like to call these versions of Shirou) will sacrifice the many, and I mean the MANY, for a precious few, or even just one person.
One scenario I can think of how this can easily twist them into villainy is if, say... If Sakura/Miyu died. Then Shirou would find himself face with the chance to bring their only precious person back using the power of the Holy Grail. These Shirous have stated time and again they'll let the world burn to have the person they want. Thus... Who's to say he/they WON'T turn to Angra Mainyu, and with him, ALL THE EVILS IN THE WORLD, for the chance to see their beloved back?

It's the last fight in heaven's feel where Kotomine comes literally out of nowhere and him and Shirou fight barehanded with no magic as Shirou's body is turning into literal metal spikes. Every time Kotomine punches Shirou he breaks and cuts up his hands but everyone time he does the force travels through Shirou's body causing him intense pain. They are in an underground cavern that is collapsing around them. Both of them are dying and it's a fight to see who dies last. (Kotomine had his heart destroyed in a fight with Assassin where everyone assumed he died so he's on borrowed time and Shirou is losing his mind and his body is turning into a sword.)

@@MrInuhanyou123 I think it's pretty great so far. Something that feels totally different from the anime is that in the VN, there's genuine fear when a Servant is about to use a Noble Phantasm. Like when Cu was about to use Gae Bolg, the situation gets much more tense and time seems to slow down. Meanwhile the anime is like "hey look at their cool super move!" Both are cool as hell but the way the VN handles it is much more frightening.

No it wasn't. The manga fight was hype as fuck, the anime version couldn't deliver. It had some interesting parts like the constantly rotating camera angles as he holds off Angelica before Kuro shows up, but in general the animation and choregraphy is so badly done in comparison to other fights in the series that it falls massively flat. Compare the choreography in Illya v Alter Saber to this for example. I'm just glad the original anime director is heading up the movie about Shirou's past, because he can make great fight scenes.
Look at what they did to literally the first version of Nine Lives Blade Works to ever appear in an anime, it was awful.
Yeah I have heard that the manga version is 100 times better, but I guess for me even with badly done choregraphy and not so good animation, because I waited for Shirou to show up so much, it was still hype to me. Yeah it doesn't hold it that well compared to some other great fights ( Shirou vs Berserker and Shirou vs Kirei in HF being my favorite ones ) but I still felt the impact of it.
It had impact, sure. It's just that as a manga reader we waited around two years for even a hint that he would fight and when we do it's so badly choreographed for the most part that it's not that much more hype than your average anime fight.
If you want to read the manga to compare his fight, read Fate/Kaleid Prisma Illya Drei from chapter 22 onwards. it's seriously great. I'm giving you the exact chapters because you may be like me and hate lolicon, and I didn't exactly enjoy having to read through the fanservice to find Shirou's part.
I did plan on reading the manga at one point, and I was told the manga had a lot less fanservice and filler then the anime. When I read the manga eventually I'm sure I will like it a lot more then the anime one, Fate is known for not having good adaptations after all. And a movie about Shirou's past you said, that would be good.
