When you are back in Turkey replace the sump and fabricate an underfloor sump protection. Maybe for even the fuel tank
Its called a Bash Plate.
Or u can call it a skid plate, sump plate , under body armour. NO a sump protection just a few bent sheets of steel plating right under the sump, very common in Turkey
I wouldn't be as laid back as you too with a hole in the sump and no oil in the engine!!!!

The horses are smart. They seem to walk on the white middle line single file to avoid traffic. It was sad seeing all those dogs. Too bad they can’t start a birth control program for all the critters. Congratulations on 60 subscribers. 100 is just around the corner!

Got in from a night shift and had to watch this before sleep. Trudy is terrific. With your driving and the care you give her, that little workhorse on wheels will get you around the world. We can't let a country break her. Trudy's getting to be a bit of an icon in her own right now too!! 🤣. Here's to better roads and safe onward travels and adventures 🤞😁

I love the color green Marianne, I've thought about if I had a van(hopefully one day) that I would love for it to be green like some of the older VW vans and have the roof and trim be white. That was a cool looking jeep. So glad you were able to get Trudy fixed up there. Loving your trip through Georgia and the people you meet along the way. That's a fair dent on the oil sump !! Welding it might not last forever . I would be bad for getting a new sump if you are ever near a big garage with access to widespread parts 👍 Great video guys 😁

So glad you got the Sump fixed, welded I presume? That could have been disastrous!
Whilst watching this video I was « OMG what’s going to happen now?Will they find a garage nearby ? Are they going to find the part or parts for the repair ? Anyhow it kept intrigued until the end and of course I was quite happy to see it all ended well.

Yes ... it is tricky we have been getting different information ... may cause over heating (as we sometimes drive in over 40 degrees) .... lower the height even more .... so we are working on finding a solution and weighing up the odds xx we will share when we work out a plan xx
It was scary, but fortunately it was not serious since you got the mechanic to fix it. Im still thinking you had a dangerous route and survived. You need to avoid such journeys 🤣 but keep provide us with the lovely videos 👍💞

Back in the 1960's in Ireland, the animals in thewest of the country grazed the ditches along the roads like that. Great food variety for them.. If I Remember correctly it was called the long acre... free range grazing along the little roads.

Was it the yellow low oil level light or the red low oil pressure light that came on? Usually if the red light comes on it’s game over as the damage has been done so you’ve been really lucky 🍀 I’d recommend getting the sump replaced when you can and maybe also look at some underside protection covers for the sump and fuel tank.
Ha Ha - Trudy doesn't do yellow ... she is all or nothing !! LOL - Yes we are looking into a plate maybe ... it is tricky as her model means it could cause over heating if we drive in hot countries .... which we do LOL !! Eeeek !! But all good xx
For your next journeys, you should have protection under your vehicle and install suitable tires for off-road. It will also be beneficial to raise your vehicle a few inches. Good luck.
Hi - yep we have all terrain tyres and raised suspension (this is shown in the videos from about 2 years ago :) ) - the protection under the van is not so simple as we might cause over heating - we drive in hot conditions and we are working on a bespoke solution for Trudy - thanks for writing xx

Well,another example your always find help,in Georgia when you are a guest they will do anything, even there last meal.
And 20 lari for parking is a theft,actually Georgia is not so expensive. See the price for fixing Trudy.
You were Lucky that all went well,we drove up to Mestia and the radiator blew up,70 km can be long drive if you have to stop every 10.

Do you know that locals in that region speak Megrlian language? One of the four Kartvelian languages (Georgian; Megrelian; Svan; Laz) spoken by ethnic Georgians. I could hear them discussing about your engine issue in Megrelian language.

I smuggled about 6 liters of US vodka into Latvia and about 4 liters of Russian and Latvian vodka back into the US last week. If I had seen you in Istanbul I would have parachuted you an emergency supply. Really good Latvian 7% beer cost about 65 cents for a half liter but unfortunately I was over the weight limit for baggage so I had to leave behind what I couldn't drink.

I agree with some of the other comments here: it would be worthwhile getting some extra steel protection welded underneath the sump and maybe the fuel tank too. If you move on to Russia and Central Asia, the roads will not be any kinder to Trudy than Georgia’s. What would REME do? :)
Hi James ... we have been taking advice as we have mixed opinions ... we drive in very hot temperatures sometimes and with a Fiat a plate might cause the oil tank to over heat .... so we are working on a plan !! My dad was in the REME ... they won't don anything LOL - just grew up with a dad who was mechanical and taught me lots !! M xx
@@TREADtheglobe Good points, although you don’t have to encase the sump; just give it a bit of protection. With some smart design, you could even improve airflow over it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It could have been worse.....a LOT worse! One year in Serbia I had a turbo blow which cost me £1000 with fitting.
