    Shortly after this video, the big friggen bottle was seen speaking to authorities and a restraining order was filed but promptly dismissed, as it was, after all, just a bottle.

    So awesome and safe to have spare tire mounted on the outside. I can't tell you how people get stuck on interstates in the rain crawling on the ground to get spare tire in their $70 to $95,000 Suv's . But yet 25 years ago- practicality and common sense ruled the road... Good kia

    • @damilolaakanni
      @damilolaakanni Před 6 dny +2

      I think both the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 did it better. Instead of having a spare tyre holder attached to the tailgate, they just mounted the spare tyre directly onto the tailgate. It makes opening the tailgate easier.

    Cheap 4x4 SUVs like this and the Chevy Tracker used to be everywhere and usually barely holding together. This is a fairly rare car. Not necessarily good, but decent all-weather transportation. It's surprising these never became popular as cheap off-road builds.

    My parents got a brand new sportage in 2000. We put so many miles on it. Went to Colorado, Texas, Mexico. I remember driving on the beach and various mountain roads in this little beast. It then became the first car I drove regularly after getting my license. It had over 200,000 miles when my parents gifted it to someone who needed a vehicle. I now wonder what happened to it..;super nostalgic. Makes me want one again! Great video!

    Even without factoring in rust, it’s Amazing to see one of these on the road all these years later. I worked at a Kia/Pontiac dealer when these were new. They were not the most reliable things when nearly new. Power trains were OK, but everything else seemed to fall apart. I remember window regulators especially for failing frequently. Of course, VW’s and BMW’s of the time suffered the same malady, so I can’t really knock the little Kia too much for that. Great to see one again.

    Sad to say that one of the first vehicles I have memories of is a 2000 Kia Sportage that my parents owned, and it nickled and dimed them for the entire 2 years that they owned it. They finally got rid of it and bought a Matrix, but they certainly missed the off-road capability of the Sportage.

  • @koneking2569

    The 1st Gen Kia Sportage is a significantly different car than all the subsequent gens where the Sportage is just the name of their midsize SUV. The first gen was trying to be a compact off-roader and was trying to compete with vehicles like the Suzuki Samurai and Chevy Tracker. Coincidentally *all* three of these vehicles died in the US because of awful crash safety scores and a propensity to rollover. Government regulation took away our compact fun off-roaders.
