Tracking The Largest Elephant Tusker Alive - N’wendlamuhari

  • N’wendlamuhari is Shangaan for the Sand River which means ‘the river that is fierce when in flood’ the name links to the bulls preferred location to a spruit which is known for its dramatic flooding in heavy rains.
Filmed at the Tihongonyeni Waterhole in the Northern Kruger National Park close to Mopani Rest-camp.
Special Features: Most notable on this bull is his ivory, his left tusk suffered a dramatic break many years back and while there has been substantial growth of the tusk since then, there is a marked difference in length between the two tusks. The left tusk break has smoothed over time and has developed quiet a prominent point to it. There are very few notable ear markings on this bull and aside from a small v-shaped nick visible in the left lobe towards the top and small u-shaped marks towards the top of the right ear lobe which are only visible in high resolution aside from this he has fairly clean ears. Visible from a left side profile are a cluster of small growths on the front of the left foreleg fairly high up the leg. These are often obscured by the ear lobe in frontal images.

Manuel Leon That's easy enough to say, but how do you stop the ivory trade? China seems to think it's their God given right to destroy every thing good in this world for their own pleasures. They don't even use the meat!! They kill Rhinos because they believe the horns are an aphrodisiac . They kill bears and take only their gall bladders, again because they feel the gall bladders are an aphrodisiac. (See a pattern there?) They rip the skins from dogs and cats while they are still alive during their Dog Meat Festival. These are sick, sick people and the ivory trade, for one at least, MUST be stopped.

For nature videos and some sporty videos, natural sound is fine. On the other hand, I once got a complaint on natural noise because some birds had shrill crys. For instructive videos voice or text is necessary to maintain decent content. People read at different speeds so you can't depend on text to carry the message. Now, here's the kicker, CZcams decides how much and how long they will promote your video by content and low volume sound tracks are judged harshly. Since a monetized channel makes money by the number of views, subscriptions, and likes, the maker of this video probably cost himself some money because of the audio choice.

I have seen that move from one video of rangers with an elephant who was aggressive. The uploader explained it's an aggressive/defensive move for an elephant. Guess it is here, in the video other elephants are coming near him, it was like he was posturing so they will back off and not get too close.

I think he likes the attention, I saw a video once where the people were just sitting around, and they wasn't paying attention to a large bull elephant, he shoved too of the people out of there chair, and went about his business , it was like how dare you don't pay me any attention

I wonder if those long tusks are fragile and are an inconvenience for him!

Hard and useful, I saw a picture of Thailand's king, Rama 9, with an elephant with longer tusks than the one in the video, it wasn't a bigger elephant, just longer tusks. Tusks are tools.
