Im sooo soo glad i came across your video. Recently bought my first cummins and got to witness a true cold start up. It was 6 degrees outside. I thought my injection pump went out or was frozen when it did this. Freaked me out. Now i know its normal lol
Scared me so bad the first time I heard my 3 cyl high idle go 😧 immediately ran and kicked it out of high idle. Then I did some research, turns out they’re supposed to 😅😪
This also doesn't wear out the motor. The Quadzilla is a fake high idle, what he's got is a default part of the ECM programming. It was put there by Cummins specifically to run like this and warm the engine up. Absolutely zero damage or risk of damage to the engine.
@@TheBCSledder - When the truck revs to ~1200 rpm it will warm up quicker. But on 6 cylinders you will use less fuel per cylinder to hold 1200rpm. When you cut fuel to 3 cylinders you then make the remaining 3 have to burn that x2 fuel per cylinder to hold that 1200. This "fake load" creates your higher egt = quicker warm up time. If I'm not mistaken it was removed for emissions compliance. I could be wrong don't quote me.
Duramax you can turn high idle on or off through the cluster but when its on it does it by itself when temps get low enough. 07 LBZ. Im sure dodge is similar. I could be wrong
@@wesleymadsen4357 - You are wrong... Lol Dodge had the tuning removed due to emissions compliance to be best of my knowledge.... The program is in the ecm, you just have to find someone to turn it on.

Same here lol I thought she was about to go first diesel I’ve owned though and it is currently -15 in pa rn
That's so awesome I wish my truck could do that!!!
Sweet truck and the perfect video example of what I was just trying to describe to a buddy.
Such a different world from where I live.
That sounds pretty rough... I've never personally heard one kick into high idle. Lol

Quadzilla is much better if you can afford it ..the high idle works great and doesn’t wear out the motor doing it

Can someone explain the point of that?
Almost doubles the egt's so it warms up much quicker

How do you get your truck to do this?

@@24vmatt - Like I said to Wesley, the program is there.
@@duttydiesel8303 i said for duramax. Last time i checked duramax is not dodge ✌
What does high idle do
Makes it idle higher.
@@Icutmetal makes idle higher and warms the engine quicker
@@dustinlanphear422 No shit…
I'm dumb... What's so cool about this
Shuts off 3 cylinders so your Cummins heats up much quicker in the winter!
