Gaia - WOMADelaide 2023

🌏 It's a small world
Measuring seven metres in diameter, Gaia is a precisely proportioned miniature of our earth, floating in three dimensions, and illuminated from within. The touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram aims to recreate the Overview Effect, a cognitive shift reported by astronauts viewing the earth from space. Common features of the experience are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.
Gaia was created in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Bluedot and the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres. With supporting partners Culture Liverpool and Liverpool Cathedral.
