  • This recording, from a concert on 23rd of March 1977 at J.J.School of Arts, Mumbai is made available by courtesy of Kishoriji's senior-most disciple, Dr Arun Dravid, from his vast collection of her original live recordings from concerts before 1990 which had the distinct stamp of Jaipur Gharana, yet enriched with her skilled beautification of it with her quest for Bhava. As a result, these reflect her refreshingly youthful voice, vibrancy, and musical content not always found in her later concerts.

I have been deeply pained by a comment from puremusic 1980 (which, and replies to it, have now been deleted) that has lashed at me with deeply hurtful and hateful language with regard to these uploads. I have discussed this comment with Kishoritai’s son Mr. Bibhas Amonkar who has nothing but gratitude to me for preserving and digitising his mother’s music during all these years. Bibhas is also pained at the puremusic 1980 comment, but supports the project of making her music available to music-lovers at large. However, to avoid such painful acrimony in the future from people like puremusic 1980 who, without disclosing their identity, may use many means to discredit, intimidate and harm me, I have decided to stop uploading on CZcams Kishoritai’s best music particularly from her younger years. Instead, I will work closely with Bibhas to upload it on a website that will be owned by the Amonkar Family Trust which is in the process of being registered with the authorities. So please wait patiently for a few months till I publish the rest of the treasure on that Trust website. This way, I will not have to face offensive comments from hateful people ever again. Bibhas has agreed that the 15 uploads released by me through the Sangeetveda1 channel recently need not be taken down. I am most thankful to all those who have given fitting replies to puremusic 1980 in my support.
    Dr. Arun Dravid.

This is further to all very kind and supportive replies I have been receiving from my fellow music lovers. I am completely in agreement with your sentiments. However, I would like to consider the pros and cons of uploading the recordings on a website. I am currently stuck in the U.S. due to the Covid situation. When I am able to return to Mumbai, I shall have a detailed dialog with Kishoritai's son Mr. Bibhas Amonkar placing before him a copy of all your replies on this subject. If he agrees to continue the uploads on CZcams, I shall resume the releases. If the best way forward is to upload them on the Amonkar Trust website, then that will be the new format. Hence I request all of the music lovers and Kishoritai's fans to wait until we make the final decision. Till then, please enjoy what has been uploaded already by Sangeetveda1 as well as by some other channels.

Dear Pt. Dravidji Thanks a lot for your kind words. As I understand this problem arose after the upload of Kishoritai’s recordings. If there isn’t a problem, is it possible for you to upload the recordings of Mogubai Kurdikar as you had said earlier and after discussions with Mr. Bibhas Amonkar, you can decide the fate of the archival Kishoritai recordings.. We will all be very grateful as the same are very difficult to come by and very few even on CZcams. If discussions for even the Mogubai Kurdikar recordings are required we can understand..

Please consider that you are doing a social service (समाजसेवा) by uploading these recordings hidden from the majority. I have not read 'hurtful' comments you mentioned. However, I am not sure why you should become so sensitive to get affected by comment/s of one nasty person or a group of persons having malicious intention. Since I began by mentioning "Social Service,' I will also highlight some examples. As you know, all great social reformers, such as Agarkar, Karve, Tilak, Savarkar, Ambedkar, etc. have experienced extreme hate from a section in the society. Our bad experiences are really nothing compared to what those persons had gone through then. Therefore, my suggestion to you is just laugh and ignore such comments and follow my solution as below:
      a) You can write you memories/anecdotes or relevant information in the notes below each video and disable comments OR b) You can open the comments and participate in the discussion with the audience. In case you get an inappropriate remark, you can just delete it.
Hope my suggestion encourages you to continue sharing your treasure which will help enhance appreciation for your Guru's art and sacrifice. Your social service is spreading joy in a section of the society.

@@rareindianclassicalmusicpr8744 It is the wish of Mr. Bibhas Amonkar to publish remaining original archives on the family Trust website. I shall try to convince him to continue the CZcams platform. This will take some time as I am currently in the U.S., unable to return to Mumbai. Please understand that there can be copyright issues. There has to be the family's consent to continue to publish these. Please have patience, and let us find a safe way forward. I assure you, I will do everything possible to release all the balance recordings of not only Kishoritai but also of Gaanatapaswini Mogubai Kurdikar. Just have patience. Thank you. @@rareindianclassicalmusicpr8744 Firstly I would like to mention that the 3 / 4 full concerts of Kishori Tai that you have posted have been a gift , a blessing. I for one have derived so much of joy and solace from those uploads. So again I must Thank you. I am a person who has more than a very serious interest in the music of Kishori Amonkar. It is in this connection that I came to interact with Shri Arun Dravid. Off the current situation where Shri Dravid mentioned that someone posted a derogatory comment directed towards him in the context of his recent uploads on Sangeetvada1 - I have not read them - I don't know what all this is about. I followed every upload on a daily basis and then suddenly they stopped. Given the state of these times initially I was a bit concerned - I thought and Dattaji - whom I am told is an elderly gentleman may have had an health issue ( God forbid ! ) Anyway it was only after reading the situation here that I realized what has happened. I have read your comment to Shri Dravid about his suspension of uploads - I totally agree with you , with Aditya Kulkarni and others. But I have interacted with Shri Dravid on an earlier issue - that was when he stopped Adina Haider of Basant Bahar from uploading recording of Tai's concerts in the US ( Festival of India ) . One recording in Chicago was released - it was force ably, amidst a lot of noise taken off. ( I must say that subsequently someone released it and it is available on You Tube - but Haider Adina will not upload the 3 others fearing reappraisal. ) During this episode I interacted at length with Shri Dravid - this lead to nothing but unpleasantness. An earlier episode many many of Kishori tai's uploads were suddenly removed from Sangeetveda1 . So THIS is the third time ( I am aware of ) where something has happened pertaining to Shri Dravid and Tai's music. ) I find it laughable that anyone could have been so hateful in their comment/s - that he should feel that he would be harmed , humiliated or injured in any way due to uploading Kishori Tai's music. Similar issues of copyright and involving permissions from Mr. Bibhas Amonkar were sited then as they are being on this instance. WHAT can one say - Shri Dravid is clearly a very intelligent accomplished person . If he chooses to take such a stand then it is his decision - I don't think I would like to say anything to him even though I have very strong feelings about this matter. This is why I am replying to you without saying anything to him. Just a Thankyou for what he has released to date. A comment about attempts at uploading all his collection on a Amonkar Trust website - I do not believe he has an idea asto how difficult it would be to be able to set-up / administer and run a web-site such as what he envisages. But again who am I to say anything. That is why , on this instance I will not put my thoughts across to him. In ending I just wish that he continues with his uploads - he will have out thanks and gratitude.

Ketkar, I just read your long comments which is obviously written without any knowledge of two serious episodes that hindered my continuation of release of Kishoritai's treasured recordings. Particularly the deletion of the previous set of recordings on Sangeetveda channel (not Sangeetveda1) had a very bitter history which you may not know. I DID NOT STOP THE CHICAGO CONCERT UPLOADS. I simply have a background of how the entire Sangeetveda channel was taken down by Google on account of copyright complaint by a person who misled Tai and engineered it. I just advised Basant Bahar channel to be careful with such people, and he then removed the Chicago video. I want to set the record straight. Dear Dr Dravid,
I am of your generation, though just a little younger. Like you, I am appalled by the idiocy which has been generated by the 'social media' which seems to determine so much of what happens in today's world. It brings both good and bad - the good includes CZcams which, in the opinion of Deepak Raja is now the foremost medium through which we now encounter Hindustani classical music - and the bad which includes all those social channels in which people are encouraged to express whatever opinions they like, no matter how uneducated, poorly informed and frankly stupid those opinions may be.
Unfortunately, the latter is a fact of life which we of the older generation must come to terms with. However, there are checks and balances which do help. 'Trolls' as they have come to be known, will receive their just punishment by those who will rush to the defence of those who are trolled and the stupidity or malevolence of the trolls will be soon be revealed for what it is.
In my own case, I know that if I make comments on newspaper articles in relation to any currently sensitive subjects, at least one or two abusive replies are guaranteed to follow. I just ignore them and am content to know that 99% of other readers will also ignore them.
However, it is important that we do not succumb to the pressures of the trolls - as one commentator has already pointed out. We must fight back and defend our sense of propriety and our sense of what is reasonable. So please do not feel hurt by what has happened in this circumstance. Rather, fight back and continue your life-long contribution to the world of Hindustani music.

Kishori Tai may be experimenting by finding common tunes of both ragas as these two rags of ' viraah ' ras ( sorrow mood) . This is actual exponent of Bilaskhani Todi.

@Arun Dravid I second Aditya here. Sir, while we understand and empathise with your pain and anguish, if these beautiful and pristine uploads stop, it would seem that Puremusic 1980 has been successful in his malicious motive and this seems to be the sole purpose for which his/her profile was created on the same day as that on which the shameful and reprehensible comment was posted. It also sets a dangerous precedent that any person can make a fake profile, post unverifiable comments, make insulting and derogatory remarks and thereafter succeed in his/her attempt to make uploaders like yourself/Sangeetveda1 and others from stopping uploading precious music and get away with this scot free. While starting a website in the name of Kishoritai and uploading the recordings there seems like a nice idea, it cannot match the reach of CZcams which will give not only students of music but also lay listeners a chance to listen to Tai’s concert recordings. Most people wouldn’t even know about a website unless they specifically search for it or are expressly told so. The final decision obviously rests in yours and Mr. Bibhas Amonkar’s hands but it would be in the interest of the music and music lovers that the uploads on CZcams continue while disabling the comments and later the recordings can also be uploaded to the website as well to form a database/archive. Another option could be to form a CZcams channel exclusively for Tai’s live concerts from your archives and the uploads can continue obviously with comments disabled. Music lovers should not suffer the folly and malice of one person.. That said if stopping the uploads on CZcams is your final decision we respect it..
