It's absolutely terrifying how kids grow up to become similar like their parents. Me personally, I have become so much like both my mother and father in both the good and bad, mainly in the bad tho. It's terrifying, but just like it says in the lyrics of this song, you cannot stop DNA from overtaking you. It's just how it is unfortunately. I hope everything is alright with you! Take care

Yup. That's one of my greatest fears. My dad went to jail, and my mom's mentally abusive. I'm scared to wind up like them.. I decided to cut contact with my mom as soon as possible, and try my best to not be like them..
Why is that so true it cut a hole in my soul?
(I don't mean to make it about myself, or make someone annoyed by what's below this.)
My father has given countless death threats and has barely stopped himself from ACTUALLY MURDERING SOMEONE, he's depressed and suicidal ect..
My mother has bad anger issues and always blames stuff on me and my father.
I can imagine I'm following their footsteps. These are what I think I'll have/do because of my parents in the future: overthink, be depressed, be anxious, be stressed, be in jail/a hospital, have diabetes, ect..

my dad was an alcoholic but he’s trying to stop, i said i would try to never drink because of how i grew up seeing how it affected my father my mom also used to drink but she stopped aswell

the worst thing about it is that you can’t remember everything that happened as a kid but remember the trauma that happened very well :( I remember as a kid hiding under the bed with my sister crying while being scared because my parents were yelling at each other and using violence

People who cried on this video has literally experience a similar situation. I had problems with my Father when he retired he's job but i kept it to my self knowing that the situation will be fixed soon but things didnt go my way..

I used to cry to this song for hours because I was constantly compared to my abusive dad growing up by my mums side of the family all because I got his bipoler and anger problems. I'm so terrified to have kids of my own one day in fear I'll hurt them like my father did me. I struggle so much with my anger and aggression that I dont even realise half the time how I'm talking or acting
I have the same story I'm 12 and suffer great anxiety because my dad beats me if I do smothing wrong or my mum does somthing wrong he can be happy too

I have a really similar to you.. my father was an alcoholic and would harass me and my mom, but one day we were able to call the police and since he got token away, I was scared that he would be the person I would be. So I ignored that feeling by being cold and quiet, but I have gotten some behaviors he has. I yell loudly when I get mad and have the urges to hurt people. But I’m trying my best to just be me and live the better life I have now
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. My mom, she is abusive, most of the time emotional abuse. It started since my father died. Now from her being around me all the time, I get so angry I yell and when I tried to talk about my father with her, she told me to shut up and yelled at me while her boyfriend was there, and I slapped her. She tried to beat me up and I fought back and she hurt me a bit but i gave her a bruise for a week. she calls me names and blames me for things threatens me to. I now yell, have hit things and hurt my mom twice. I say things I dont mean, it changed me so much. Then her brother does the same exact thing except worse. The only reason why I stay at home is because I love somebody so much, but they dont like me back. I'm scared that I am gonna lose them.. I yelled at them once before for the first time and I couldn't even speak to her mom. She asked me "Why are you shacking?" and told me to breath. I hugged her so hard, and asked "Is she ok?" I ran to her and hugged her saying that I'm sorry while shacking.

It’s scary how common it is here where I live to be an alcoholic, once my when my mom said she didn’t drink her friend was like “WHAT YOU DON’T DRINK?🤭”
And side note, you can only really buy alcohol on Sundays here so you don’t really have it THAT often anyway.

Funny how my 7 year old self used to listen to this with earphones in while my dad and mother fought like hell and my mom throwing out everything in the house while I hugged my brother and said “mommy and daddy are fighting again let’s go outside” while I saw my father leaving and I come to realize that u can’t actually can’t stop dna cause I’m turning out like my parents.

This song is so true you can’t stop DNA in the end your both of your parents for me my parents were very similar which is probably why they are divorced and have been since I was 2 or 3 but I have no hope I’m exactly like both of them so me and my dad get along great but I guess it’s a mother daughter thing to fight constantly then love each other at the same time, but even when it feels like your gonna be exactly like your parents think about the way they grew up compared to your life and you’ll see you are most likely different and you can beat DNA in some ways

I...relate to this in my own way. I got bullied by my own younger brother, getting called names, and him just taking his anger out on me. And My feelings about my parents are complicated. Now I always see my family in me in a bad way, and I get scared because I don’t want to be like them.

It’s the part where you’re the oldest among your siblings and you have to act strong infront of them while your parents are fighting. And you literally wanna cry and scream at the same time but you hate to see your siblings cry.
Today, my parents got into a huge fight, and my mom finally decided that we’ll leave our father behind. They were having a divorce but my mom said that he can still visit us but our house is far from my dad’s house. It’s like 8-9 hours.
When i was a kid, they’d always ask me who’s my favorite among my parents and cannot choose. And now, they’re asking me again but in a different way:>

I am so sorry this happened to you! You don't deserve this. I hope you have an AMAZING christmas, and that this stopped a LONG time ago! +sub Edit: ISTG If that happens again, PLEASE post about it. Also, a tip for problems like this: get help. get a therapist or something. I had a problem like this when I was little, but it never got physical. I am just now able to not struggle with it as much, so I advise some therapy, or at least talking to somebody about it.

I’ve become a lot like my parents. My dads very depressed and crap with adhd so ofc I get the bad genes lmao at least he’s funny. I’m also a lot like my mom look wise, but the negative traits I choose not to take on. The difference between me and my parents is how much I love. I used to live in hate and I was extremely negative and that’s how my mother sees me. Right now my brothers has a cold and if I think about it I cry and get mad. I can’t stand the thought of someone sick in my house. When multiple people are talking I do the same thing when I scream for people to stop yelling. I went to a doctors appointment yesterday and my blood pressure was a little high and my mom got mad at me for eating too much junk food even though the high blood pressure is almost definitely caused by stress and the fact my brother was with me in the car lol she wont put me on adhd meds or tell my school because she doesn’t want a weak child. She always uses stuff i did when I was 7 against me. When I have kids I’d never treat them like that.
Apparently I have ocd and bulimia so the high pressure is prob on me there. 😅 I sound so desperate for attention with my new list of medical conditions 💀
