    Just want to thank you for taking the time to post the video, I wouldn't of been able to swap my grey e39 headliner to the black M5 headliner without it, 98 540i

    I used this video to do my M5 headliner. Thank you for posting!
    Just a suggestion that I used when re-installing it with one person. I used a few golf clubs to prop it up and then installed one handle with the screws to hold it up. Rolled all the trip over the headliner, unscrewed the handle and slid the headliner back slightly to hook the back into position. Then I slid it slightly forward and it was ready to for all of the pieces to be installed. Makes it very easy!

    Few of my friends owns a company that does this kind of wokr. seats, headlines, dashboards, steering wheels, almost everything you can imagine that is inside the car. Alcantara is one of the best way to give your car good look and some luxury. Great DIY, nice look with the mod. Congrats! :)

    Hey, Having done this the past weekend on my 01 530i I need to note that BMW did many small changes. The 00 C-pillars are missing the screw holes behind the lights and the front most snap in peg doesn't line up, B-pillars are fatter so you need the matching lower pillar. A-pillars seem fine but I would just buy brand new so you can lock in the middle clip.
    I did notice that the (headliner) rear locking slit was smaller (shorter) my original and doesn't lock in so its just hanging there.

  • @roxorz007

    Also I found that the gaiter can be a pita, what I did was take a flat head screw driver and position it like this | and from the rear corner of the popped sunroof place it in like this | and lightly bump it against the gaiter.

    Hi, do you know if there is a way to take out the slider without removing the whole headliner?

    • @e39sourcesupport33
      @e39sourcesupport33 Před 10 lety

      Hi,
      You can remove the sunroof glass to remove the slider. First, carefully pull the gators (rubber accordion looking things on the sides of the sunroof with it closed) away from the sunroof, then remove the four screws on the corners of the sunroof. After you lift the glass out, you will see two screws holding the gators on, and under that are four screws for the slider. All screws are Torx, if I recall they are T20. Getting the glass back in is the hard part. You have to line it up in the front first (having two people for this REALLY helps), then screw it in and align it with the rear screw holes, ensuring it seals properly. It’s an easy job, just getting the glass back in is tough. Good luck!

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 6 lety

      Hmm, I have never seen an E39 with a metal sunroof! I would imagine that the whole cassette needs to be replaced, but maybe it is just the different panel. Check the cassette part numbers on RealOEM and see if they changed.

    • @austigm3888
      @austigm3888 Před 6 lety

      Thanks for reply, I did that and its different parts no. its the European old style metal, I asked and the mechanics said its same base, just switch cassettes coz holding mechanism is different, but I saw your video and noticed that you took off the glass before removal so I wondered why, just for easier repair or is it the method for installing the new cassette, ok if you want to replace the cassette with a complete new one, no repair, would you remove the glass first or just take and replace the cassette? thanks again

      @E39Source  Před 6 lety +1

      I purchased a 2001 e39 black alcantara headliner, looking at the position of the recessed spots for the o-crap handles they seem to sit forward about a half inch more than my 97 540i and the handles aren't as long/wide the m5 hanldes are a little shorter. I'm concerned that after trying to put in the new handles won't be able to mount because the mounting position will possibly be covered by the headliner, unless the mounting points can be adjusted. I would hate to take everything apart to find out the handles won't mount. The front pillars are SRS mine aren't, not sure if this will be an issue also. Wish I could converse over phone with someone about this.

      @@robertdesousa6546 To the best of my knowledge, the grab handle location on the E39 never changed. I would honestly be surprised if it did, or if the handles changed themselves. I just looked up the handle part number. It says it is used from 9/1997+. What its the production date of your car? The headliner part number also changes in 9/97. I've never worked on an E39 older than 10/99 or so, so perhaps the super super early ones did have a different location!
