    Should just take a woodworking course if you're interested in hidden nuance of chairs. The structural aspect is logical as long as you're not looking for the minimum amount of material or minimum strength of material. A chair could just be a bunch of construction lumber screwed together like a 5 year old would draw a chair, and it would still work just fine. If you have fancy designs and weak materials with weak joinery, you of course have to make sure you're including all the necessary structural components. Its just funny how Sarah talks about the complexity, then Yiran cuts some plywood and supports the chair with three 1/4" pieces. Form over function lol. Art class basically.

    The word the designer is looking for is frivolous. Furniture is a need, not a frivolous item.

    No offence, but I see only skeletal furniture or skeletal chair, meaning it is unfinish product or unfinish design. Why not include upholstery to finish the product .

    It's a great concept ,but is it joinery hmmm the true purest may disagree in that it all seems life less as there's no real connection between the craft and the maker...

    • @leaschmitt2496
      @leaschmitt2496 Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah but to be fair, it's really hard to teach a mastery or even decent level of traditional woodworking craft in just 1 semester. And these classes are usually aimed at preparing students for industry where they have to mass produce stuff and can't have people painstakingly do joinery. So while I understand your point it's just not really practical to teach general design students this. Maybe in woodworking
