“Aye bro that’s a lot of siege towers”
-Marcus Aurelius at this battle
“They’re gonna go for a bend but don’t Thermopylae strategy”
-Apollo, Probably at some point
Hahahaha you know him!
All goat paths accounted for!😂
And all goat herders…
Honestly, I don't know if the defenders could be toppled in an hour. They had so many elite units that breaking through each one was going to have to be a slog.
I agree. What could have been done though, because the city is so small. Do not knock any walls down, but conquer them and get slingers up on the wall to shoot down on the defenders in the streets.. That would at least cancel out the choke point advantage
I agree; moreover, if Carthage would've been more into it (instead of playing for time, etc.), I doubt the defenders could've been toppled at all.
Carthage and Rome did team up once in the war against Pyrrhus of Epirus
It sounds like a costly victory for either side. 😉
That’s where the phrase “Phyrric Victory “ comes from
what really?
Tell me more about this please
@@spideyman5171 Pyrrhus came to Magna Graecia(southern Greek city's in South Italy) to help them to defend themselves against Rome (and he wanted to become their king) He won against Rome in Heraclea and Asculum but the peace treaty Pyrrhus offered Rome was declined because Rome made an alliance with Carthage Pyrrhus then conquered almost all of Sicily (Carthage just managed to defend Lilybaeum) but Syracuse and the other Sicilian States betrayed him and then he returned to Italy and then won a pyrrhic victory against Rome but his casualties were so high that he had to retreat to Epirus and the war was lost
I don't need to imagine what happens when Carthage and Rome team up.
*It happens all the time in Imperator: Rome.*
RIP all the Iberian and Gallic tribes. You never stood a chance.
What Imperator Rome are you playing? Every time I play and leave the ai in peace, Rome always conquers Carthage
@@scipioafricanus2212 When I play, Rome usually conquers the east and/or the Gallic tribes, and Carthage always faffs about in Spain. I did play an exception where Carthage went into Gaul and Rome went into Germany.
4:22 that spartan on the far left got pin-cushioned good!
Hei Apollo, not sure you saw this comment on your previous Rome 2 video but just reposting it here one last time to make sure you see it!
You should do a battle/siege 4v4 but where there is only 2 armies facing each other. So like one player controls just archers, the other controls just cav etc. Kinda like every player is a captain more than a general. Would be interesting as players will control smaller portions of the army and therefore give them the opportunity of better macros and different tactics.
If you agree like the comment so Apollo sees it!
I really liked your podcast with Resonant and agree with almost everything you said about the state of TW
Got a link?
Hey that rome is me LongNightmare, this was a fun battle :) Thank you Apollo, best commentary every single time!! Keep up the amazing content
btw carthage was not playing, he dropped from the game after 15 minutes
Hey man
I was nabetea,I told em to hurry up but they didn't listen at the end.
Hey long nightmare ngl I don't see your replay in the replay channel and went back to 14th March 2021 and I know we played it 2 months ago and that I sent in the replay like 3 or 4 weeks ago.did you DM Apollo?
Long nightmare play soon?
11:10 - "He just kind of spammed tribal warriors which is a bit lame" said the guy that spammed Levy freeman LMAO
Gotta love the Rome 2 vids🔥
Keep up the great content bro!
Thank you for doing more Rome 2 siege battles I love watching them. Keep up the great work
Fun fact, Rome and Carthage officially made peace in 1985
@Benjamin Sigouin who even represents Carthage? They were completely destroyed 2000 years ago
Tunisia
@@gryphon0468 who represents Rome? There's like a trillion contenders.
Italy
Vatican
Greece
Albania
Croatia
Bulgaria
Ect
@@Jacxbb2007 The city of Rome has an unbroken history and actually still exists.
@@gryphon0468 I think everyone knows it exists but I would argue Greece is the best Successor to the Roman Empire. After all, rome ended up speaking greek and Greece was one of the last province's in the empire before it fell to the Ottomans. After the fall of the west, most things were influenced by Greece in the east.
7:47 you made Me cough up my water I just was not expecting that
Chills be like its new years countdown!!! I will count down!!! 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2, and before we get to number 1, my name is chills!!!
Apollo was a extra funny today, good commentary lol
"Bend but don't break, just like Thermopylae"
Attackers took waaaaayyyy too long to send up their pikes. Especially in the narrow roads when the buildings would have protected them from the Lu. slingers.
Do not fall back, push up archers. Wipe out pikes with a few archers.
“Eagle cohorts good” Pixelated Apollo 2021
Watching this in 2023! Love your videos and I’ve never even owned a PC but I binge watch like a mad man!
Rome and Carthage actually were pretty close allies before and right after the First Punic War, we have troves of treaties between them and Romans said that seizing Sardinia while Carthage was distracted was dishonorable. It almost happened.
Bro you actually made laugh when you brought up the chills guy that’s so funny
I don't use many if any weak units on defense. I bring a lot of Carthaginian Hoplites with are the middle of the tree. I bring a pair of Sacred Band that hang out in the middle and can check breakthroughs or fall back in order to fight with the African Pikemen at the end in a 421 game. Expendable units are good in the middle to simply tie up a breakthrough and buy time for organizing and reinforcing the next line of chokepoints, activate defenses since it takes a unit standing at stuff like the flaming balls to trigger them, but I don't feel like they serve a purpose on or at the walls or in the last stand.
It was a bit disappointing to see the game devolve at the end, especially with Carthage just chilling and being basically afk
Yeah, nothing worse than a defensive win due to time :/. Great battle but god that ending was a let down.
1:43 can you imagine living in that time and seeing a battle happen on your city walls?
This was definitely the most spicy battle I've seen so far
Whenever I play as Rome, I always bring plenty of triarii well after the reforms. As defensive troops, they rank among the best I believe. That being said, I like using them on the front line to set up a defensive posture. Then with mid troops, I use them on my flanks that I use to attack with the hopes of envelopment.
In cities, they are worth their weight in gold. Using square formation can lockdown streets. Even with naval landings, a solid wave of spears is handy when landing your first wave. Auxiliary infantry could never match, even with excess to compensate.
I would like to see a battle between the scotts and the British
do you mean Scots vs English because Scotland are part of Great Britain
@@RoyalRegimentofScotland Probably in reference to the Picts vs the Britons.
@@jeffreyhill4753 your probably right
I'm italian but I can't make fun of the carthaginians online, they are too salty
Maybe you should switch sides, again.
If the Carthaginians and the Romans teamed up, which was as unlikely as Sparta and Athens teaming up after the First Peloponnesian War, then they would have ruled over the Mediterranean. They were far and away the most powerful cities in that region, and could well have expanded further. However, any alliance between them would have been like that of the Soviet Union and America, where they would have been suspicious of each other and eventually it would have turned to a war
Rome would probably backstab Carthage while they were when they were dealing with other Africans
@@user-qo5co8sp9q Maybe, but don't forget it was only really due to Roman intervention that Numidia became powerful enough to challenge Carthage, so whether any African neighbours were strong enough to actually challenge them at the time is up for debate. Maybe a coalition, but I feel the main enemy, even if they were allied, would still be Rome.
Your voice impression of chills is perfect 😂
you only need a couple units guarding each stairway with archer support hitting enemy units in the back. They will burn more soldiers off trying to get entry. It is better imo to reserve mid/late tier units for fighting in the streets. If you can destroy them on the walls with ranged, you can make use of cav to hit their archers as they try to send more into the choke point.
Doing that chills voice had me in tears love your videos thank you
Pixie stoic confirmed. A slightly baked stoic, but hey...
Maybe if your attackers first wave is low tier, it is advantageous to defend with top tier units. Dispatching many enemy low tier soldiers without taking many casualties, shifting the balance of power.
A major issue with this I think is that if you aren’t careful about how many casualties your elites take, your opponents may get the upper hand with their elites later in the battle.
Perhaps unit level is then just as good as good and effective tactics.
man appolo sure does love back seating lmfao
Strong players. I really enjoyed this one. Not really down to the wire; wish the timer hadn't played a factor. Really would've liked to see how the attackers would fair. I'd argue they might've won.
Anyways this was a solid play with solid players, and even stronger TEAMWORK by both sides! Don't see this too often.
Love the Rome 2 sieges while I'm eating my dinner
You missed out one more term...
FIERY BALLS OF JUSTICE!!! hahahahahahaha
Nailed the Chills impersonation PA
16:28 those celts are doing some witchcraft
That small wall is pure TITANIUM :D
Everyone knows that the Lusitani are actually 'loose Tony'.
The prictorian guard or whatever looks awesome I wish I could play this game it looks so freaking awesome
There were too many elite defending units for this to not end in a time victory for the defenders. Rome brought all Eagle cohort and Praetorians!!!
Chills....lol ..impression on point bro😅🤙
I tend to fall back to a good chocke point But HEY THATS AGAINST THE AI 😂😂😂
19:36 of course we remember that lol
Avernii might have left his troops near the gate to trick the enemy into holding his troops there and not supporting Avernii’s push through the wall.
I agree, it could have been done better and there were other options available but he did need to keep pressing there as his whole team would be pinned into 2 choke points with the gatehouse giving supporting fire, otherwise.
Chad patio wall vs virgin city wall
You almost said “Burger King foot lettuce”. 😂
This might be my favorite replay.
Sparta hits the wall... Well Sparta is Sparta 🤣
Sparta is difficult to use as a attacking faction. Kudos to the attacking sparta user
U can only bring two heroes of Sparta
Defending I use low and medium units to defend the outskirts and walls of the city and hold the high tier near the town centre
Sometimes it is wise to throw high tier in areas that would be easy to hide from archer fire 🔥
Arverni did make it in to the capture point an then broke so maybe that’s what they meant by 2 the last unit braking
Bloody hell, this was intense.
I know exactly who Apollo is referencing with the voice lol
At 42:03 the Roman player was going down the stairs because there was Nabatian heavy archers there
Me: Lets wattch some rome 2!
Sees Rome as a Faction
Me...what a rare sight indeed🤨
Whoa the defenders were superb😃
Ricky Ricardo co-stars in "I Love Lusitani".
Number 15. The last thing you want to see is a 44 thousand custom dollar battle. In rome 2.
Holy **** thnx Apollo I was have tea.I was team leading.i told em to push asap but my team were too slow
Your Videos never gets old
I’ve been watching your videos sense 2015
U can only bring two heroes of Sparta but the total Spartans are expensive none the less lol
The logic is, to attack use medium tier to pass through the towers without too many losses, then use the low tier to poke the enemy on the streets and finally use the High tier to finish them.
To defend use the low tier first, enjoing the walls and tower advantages on your side, then use the medium tier to hold the streets and gain time, absorvb ammo and tire the enemy so that, on the last stand, you have fresh elite troops ready to hold against tired enemies without missile capabilities.
Yeah dude this outcome is quite obvious, attackers simply failed to push through. Should've attacked more than 2 locations. Absolute failure.
Apollo: do you defend with your high tier, mid tier or low tier
Average Warhammer 40k enjoyer: my necrontyr
17:27 u missed the sally out :'(
Defending can be different, but as a general rule of thumb, you always use your green/weakest units first. Maybe not so much in a game, but in that period, you’d lose every single batter if you saved the newest and weakest units for last. You always wear down the enemy first, then send in the veterans to mop them up 🤷♂️ it really isn’t up for debate. Unless the opposing force is entirely green, only way around it
On defense, I start with lower-tier troops. Gotta put the enemy through the meat grinder first. If they want my settlement, they're gonna have to earn it.
Great battle
Pixi you forgot one of your go to words snacks and drinks !!
Nice battle 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Will u make one more CZcamsrs Battle in Napoleon Total War ..? It will be awesome 😍😍 Plzz try to make one 💯💯
This was a large battle

I’m missing ur Rome 2 vids broski. It’s almost been two weeks I feel even though I am a huge fan of bannerlord.

I love this replay
So what happened to the 2nd channel and AC Odyssey?!?!? Was really loving it! Bring it back!!!
Ah...finally some good content to watch.
A "go to" in open battles would be "Cannae".
Pixelated Apollo you should play Fire & Manuever when it comes out its almost like total war but franco-prussian war and crimean war it's gonna come late 2021
Burger king footlettuce!
Love to watch the content in 20 fps ;)
but the street would be a great place to grow crops overtime :D
I'm fairly certain that the combined military might of Rome and Carthage could conquer all of the European and Asian continents.
If Rome integrated Carthage instead of wiping them out, it would be a very powerful combo. Think about the roman military and cultural machine funded by Carthage mercantilism...
@@GreenOlive54 yeah but the whole point is that apollo was asking a "what if"... in what if scenarios you kind of have to just go with the initial premise
Rome and Carthage sharing power would just be insane. Very powerful during the Punic period. But what if Sparta and Athens got along and formed a military alliance against rome or Macedon.
Sparta and Athens would still get steamrolled in the end, maybe they would hold out longer but ultimately Rome is too much for them
once i saw the chariots i got ptsd from the last battle
You should do a reaction to chills please
Only 2 choke points, I could hold that all day. Easy win, defense all the way.
Organization is key.. time and time again I see players bunch units up, wasting their stamina and leaving themselves vulnerable to missile fire.. Late/mid battle you need to take inventory on what you have, and line your troops up properly. Also, if you’re getting jammed in a defensive choke point, be creative and send 2 or 3 units around the back with a siege tower. Always keep your defender guessing. If you just jam units into one area, you make it easier for the defenders. Also, (as the attackers) when you have limited time left, you need to commit your troops; painful to see units sitting around towards the end..
I knew defenders were going to win because every single time however sends the batle replay wins
