Off beat one day trek near Mumbai
"Songiri" word translates to "Mountain of Gold"
Songiri Fort Trek located near Palasdhari station on the Karjat - Khopoli railway line; this Fort is also called Palasdhari Fort. You can spot the triangle-shaped mountain and the fortress from Palasdhari station.
The landscape views during the trek and from the summit are incredible. The Jungle surrounding the Songiri Fort is dense.
There are two more forts by the Name Songiri one located in Karjat and Nagothane.
You can see the fantastic Rajmachi Fort, Bor Ghat, Dhak Bahiri, Prabalgad Fort, and Bhivgad from the summit of Songiri Fort. Songiri Fort lies in ruins now with thick jungle cover and two water tanks and portions of fortification.
There are two routes Songiri.
1) Starts from Palasdari Station: You need to walk towards Khopoli from the extreme left track and a few meters before the tunnel, the trail for Songiri Starts.The trail starts between poles 104/24 and 104/26 electric poles.
2) From Awalas Village: You can walk to Awalas village and the trek starts from the village, you can ask the locals for initial route or hire a guide.
It is better to take the Awalas village route since the tracks route is destroyed and confusing and chances of being lost are higher.
