Twenty eight - the song title itself, has a double entendre. Firstly, there are twenty eight grams in one ounce of cocaine.
Abel is known to be a user so
this could be of reference to his drugs. Secondly, twenty eight is officially the first bonus track of HOB (27 songs altogether in HOB/EOS/THURSDAY with twenty eight being the 28th bonus and last song from HOB.
Video interpretation - the girl on the bed represents valarie “I left my girl back home” valarie is depicted in this menacing ghostly figure haunting Abel throughout the video in which at the end he is seen walking back to her. In this way, valarie also represents his old OG fans - without us, Abel wouldn’t be where he is, so in a way he is thankful to us but also upset because the fame won’t leave him.
The nude women - represent the mainstream world, they only want him for his fame and he doesn’t seem phased by it. He simply just sits back and observes them, he sees these females as sexual objects, to feel good and nothing more. In the lines “Hey, there lonely girl did you have to tell your friends about the way I got you screaming my name” - a literal reference to his older fans. Abel wishes that his fans kept his music on the “down low” because now he can’t get out of the spotlight. Similarly, this can be used as a sexual reference to females sharing their encounters with their friends.
The Line - “I shouldve left you in the Club” has two meanings. A) his fans, they could’ve been the “one” if they didn’t share his music w the world. B) cocaine, Abel being a heavy cocaine user can’t get enough of it, his addiction is following into his everyday life and he can’t escape it.
Lastly, the interview - Abel has never been the type to hold interveiws and hates being in the public eye. With his first performance being the Toronto mod club July 2011, He didn’t think he would blow up. From House of balloons, no one even knew what he looked like. After the ‘girl’ (his fans) shared his music with the world, he is receiving this unnecessary undivided attention in which he doesn’t not show any interest to. Towards the end of the video he rolls his eyes. - This, showing how being in the spotlight and media bores him.
This being my very first Abel song (since I was 11/12) holds a very close place to my heart. So, this is my analysis on the video.

He considered himself a very private person and knew to make it big out there he would have to become more mainstream with interviews and everyone knowing who is what he looks like and what he does.. The girl sitting at home represents fans who listened to him before he gained all the fame.. Looking bored throughout the whole interview he goes back to the girl at the end of the song.. I just stumbled on to him last year and realized he's not so public, and realized that kind of makes him a genuine artist. I think not knowing every little thing about him lets you focus on his music...unlike other artists and celebrities of today.hope he stays this way though.
It was more so the public/media's view on what he does with his life, and how chicks are too quick to broadcast being with someone famous for personal gain. In the interview, it seems more like this older male (usually those who run society) is chastising him for doing something that society views as wrong; that wrong being fucking with this girl. This girl that he was messing with got stage-5 clinger status and starting bragging to people that she's sleeping with him. The media caught wind of his exploits, now he's on TV getting a "public canning" for it, when this chick could've just shut the fuck up. You also notice towards the end of the interview that not only does he look bored, but his eye twitches like when someone gets pissed about someone saying some shit that they shouldn't say; that follows with the narrative that the interview is a public scolding. How could this old fuck, sit on TV, not knowing who Abel really is, tell him what he should and should not do.All while this chick, who just benefitted from just fucking him, is watching the interview with this hateful look, probably because he dumped her ass. He's basically saying, If I knew you were going to broadcast my shit everywhere then I would have never even spoken to you. It's my fault for even letting this happen because I let you get too familiar. Now I'm sitting on TV because you couldn't shut the fuck up, getting scolded in public by someone who doesn't even know who I am; let alone someone who can judge my actions.
Basically the unspoken issue of those who go mainstream.

More like he's taking his fans to task almost, an artist becomes more famous and more mainstream their hardcore fans get upset and claim their music is watered down now. Weeknd is saying if his fans weren't telling others how great his music is, he doesn't become more famous and mainstream. He uses the metaphor of sex and his girl telling other girls how great their sex is which makes more women want to have sex with him. But in reality he's talking about his music which seems to be happening now because he was on the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack this year that he's starting to blow up.

My car flew a few lanes over and when it came to a stop the song was still playing on my stereo as my car was smoking.
