Uighur Chinese show a lot of self confidence and pride compared to American Native Indians especially those living in reservations. The two boys kept a dance culture that’s 600 year old, much of the Amerindian culture had been erased, and despite natives have been in North America for over 10,000 years, it’s hard to find artifacts over a few hundred years old. In the reservations, some still live with open sewers and endemic drug problems. These two boys are healthy upstanding strapping young men, they don’t show shame or fear of expressing their ethnicity, unlike America natives who often try to hide their aboriginal roots and simply rather coy in showing their background.

"A long-awaited report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) into what China refers to as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) has concluded that “serious human rights violations” against the Uyghur and “other predominantly Muslim communities” have been committed.
The report published on Wednesday in the wake of the visit by UN High Commissioner of Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet in May, said that “allegations of patterns of torture, or ill-treatment, including forced medical treatment and adverse conditions of detention, are credible, as are allegations of individual incidents of sexual and gender-based violence.”
In a strongly-worded assessment at the end of the report, OHCHR said that the extent of arbitrary detentions against Uyghur and others, in context of “restrictions and deprivation more generally of fundamental rights, enjoyed individually and collectively, may constitute international crimes, in particular crimes against humanity.”

@@peekaboopeekaboo1165 I think people just realize that the cut cake is really expensive. I don’t know the exact price but I know it calculates by grams. Even it’s only ¥2/g, then it’ll be ¥1000 for just 0.5kg. It’s too expensive for most people. And it’s weird that less and less Uygurs on the streets since then. (Don’t know why. Maybe it’s harder for them to travel to other provinces) I know little about Xinjiang. It’s more like another country than a province for me lol

I have a feeling by the time I do get there, Kashgar would have transformed into a major metropolitan city, and some of the ancient charm Aysajan talked about when he was a kid may be gone.
