In South Africa we tend to over critique ourselves, try to find a city in Africa that has this level of development and organization. I know we should strive to develop beyond western countries but we should acknowledge the good that is currently happening too

Problem is when we have that good but just let it crumble or vandalized, then we have to start from scratch which means money is diverted to other stuff that urgently needs attention.

@@nelsonsibiya9204 very true. In southern Africa we tend to relax thinking we are the best in Africa and not realising that other African countries are fast changing as well. Do you realize that most southern African countries have had stagnant economic growth in comparison to West and East African countries? And this is the most developed region in Africa. Let's not rest on our laurels.

Thanks for this, David. I was in Sandton for a SAPOA conference in 2015 when Parks Tau was still Joburg Mayor. He was invited to speak at the conference and he outlined Joburg's plan for the city
We took a Siteseeing Joburg bus and even then one could see the building revamps that were underway across the city...which was exciting to watch....I will definitely encourage anyone to take the bus tour because you see things from a different perspective.
I absolutely agree that we need to start recognizing what is happening around us as far as developments are concerned. Things not happen over night...but we are often times our worst enemies.
I also follow a channel called The Real South Africa by an American couple who is doing all they can to shutter stereotypes and lies about our country. People are like these and yourself David are what we need to believe in ourselves again

"We don't know how to advertise what we have" - that is the truest statement ever. From our music to our TV shows/movies and our great country. People are always so shocked when they come here as pictures do not give a true impression of the wonderment of this country. We need to market our industries and opportunities.
I saw African Americans reacting to the Netflix series Young, Rich and African at just how beautiful and developed Joburg is. They don't have a clue about what SA has on offer. People yearn to watch our dramas but can't access them. Why? The Nigerians are good at marketing their music to great success and Nollywood (which is substandard to what we produce) is making a killing in the diaspora but SA films are nonexistent on many accessible platforms. Image the employment opportunities if these industries and so many more were consumable/exportable to a global market. We are sleeping while others reap rewards.

I stayed there and I had amazing access to amenities. Woolies, Checkers, Clothing, Designers, David Tlale studios was just up my street bumped to him often there.. Amazing human that soul. Lot's of filming and movies productions. Tom cruise shot in KZN Ladysmith and part of it included a shoot in Fox and Loveday. The idea is turning inner city into a New York City urban living. The thing I miss is party time. It gets down there until morning..crazy

1.5 trillion is a stretch thats 5x its current GDP it seems highly unlikely and its not all about GDP, GDP per capita or income, PPP, HDI are far more important economic parameters, countries can have a huge GDP like India or China but compare that to switzerland which has a far lower GDP but the average swiss person is far wealthier with a far far better quality of life, healthcare, life expectancy so GDP is irrelevant

Why should trans-net revamp a building, when they can't even get our exported goods to the ports? South Africas ports are voted as being in the top 10 worst ports for ships to dock in the world. Transnet should first fix the ports, before attempting any property development.
Again, typical state infrastructure companies not doing their jobs, and stealing the public's money, and negatively affecting the economy...
