I saw Ulcerate the last time they were in Los Angeles and spoke with Jamie after the show. Cool, mellow guy who is very passionate about his music and drumming. His technical skills are absolute top level but it's his distinct artistic style and musical creativity that makes him stand out from others. And his drums actually sound like real drums - very natural with lots of tone, warmth and little compression. That's a very rare thing these days in this genre. Ulcerate's songs are complex and technical but once you get to know the tunes, you really start to understand how well-written the drums are. Lombardo, Nick Barker, Hoglan are my top 3 all-time personal favorites but Jamie is now in that group. Drummer of the decade in my opinion. Ulcerate's last album 'Stare into Death and Be Still' is a masterpiece. Marthyn, I really hope you can do a reaction to his latest in-studio video. I appreciate the content.
I get the impression this guy is so deep into his craft that only a few people in this world can fully appreciate what he’s doing
Hes one of the best drummers in the game right now, if not ever. He is so creative.
Were they headlining & where?
If people want to watch the vid uninterrupted, these should just watch the original video lol, your interruptions make it an educational reaction video
Yeah this drumming Is full of fill and Dynamic.. really powerfull!! 👌
Ikr. He should interrupt the times he feels like something needs to be add. Now, the edits with memes, that should be a crime.
I like the stops and breakdowns. If you only stopped at the end what would be the purpose of trying to teach and learn. Keep doing it the way you like. That what makes this channel what it is.
*which drummer would you like to see next?*
@@drumtechniqueacademy Eugene, Krimh, Frost, Nick Barker, Gene Hoglan or anyone you choose. I enjoy them all. Thanks
@@drumtechniqueacademy Im very glad to see these videos again! Missed them. Matte Modin deserves a video. The sad part is that it's almost impossible to find a video of him.
@@drumtechniqueacademy Aborted drummer, *can’t remember his name
@@drumtechniqueacademy czcams.com/video/nwrIDsNIy8w/video.html
People going to a reaction channel to complain about the amount of reaction. You’re elevating the extreme metal drumming scene Marthyn. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for reacting to Jamie he's such an elite class drummer and your analysis are right on point 👌👌👌
Excellent editing btw 😂
wish the sound was louder
*you're welcome*
The new format is really professional, nice job man. I hope a John Longstreth video is in the works one day!
The fact that you stop the video regularly is what I like about your reactions because most times you talk and analyze stuff I didn’t notice at first glance and you really help me understand some stuff! Don’t stop doing that🔥🔥
That is a good reminder at 1:50, that blast roll where you switch from right hand on ride to tom, both hands on snare, right hand back up to toms. I don't like how it sounds to me, behind my kit, but it sounds good in front of the kit and on recordings. This is why I like to even get room recordings of jams to get a different perspective on how my drumming sounds, because lately I'm playing with my triggers cranked in my in-ears to get my feet in line and its not all that inspiring to be hearing my drums like that while I write/jam/practice by myself (my bandmates appreciate when my kicks are in time though LOL.)
I really like the new style on these reaction videos! Keep it up Marthyn!
*will do my friend* 🤘
I honestly can't see where metal drumming goes after this guy. Its brutal, yet not primitive but incredibly articulate stuff. I wish i had this much dedication to my guitar playing. Oh! And the guitar player is phenomenal as well!
The musicanship of this band is on Master and above level.Jamie is absolute beast !
Jamie is such an underrated drummer! Whenever I watch him it wants to make me cry and sell my drums and practice
This is an outstanding reaction/educational/teaching video. Thank you for breaking parts down, explaining the techniques, and for your time. You're a bad ass dude. 🤌
Damn his fills are so good
Amazing as always ! And your new format is really funny, it was already awesome without all the memes jokes, I'm feeling even more pampered now
I just saw Ulcerate 2 nights ago in Vancouver, Jamie was incredible, exceptional.
Awesome proud as to be from the same country as ulcerate. Great band and great drummer.
Hey Marthyn, I wouldn't worry about having the interruptions, that's the whole point. If I want to watch the actual video, I'll go watch it, but I don't want to watch a video of you just watching a video, knowwhatimsayin. Your reactions are insightful and that's what I'm here for.
Other than that, love the new studio and love the new format with the jumpcuts. I think they work well, though maybe a few less cuts would be a good balance. Also, the audio of Jamie's clip didn't come through very loud for some reason.
Anyway thank you for this, Jamie wasn't on my radar before, but now is for sure. Oh and I agree with Vitun, please make more covers. Love watching you play, your economy of motion in your stick and footwork is always an education.
Congrats on the Oscar 😂
😂
Your audio was a bit low , I had my volume all the way up on my phone, haha unless I'm going deaf from playing drums
One of my top drummers, absolutely a beast
Yo Marthyn, you maybe of Balkan descent? 🤔
That's one suave drum teacher shirt right there!
Martin Jovanovich. Now also teaching us outstanding Style!
Being just a listener and metal fan and not a player, watching this review i realize how much stuff i don t even notice..
Bahah I love the editing of your new videos Martin!! (I’m Mattia Fusaro)
Can you make more covers? And also, way more Drum teacher reacts videos because the new format is really nice and I just like the vibe of these!
will do
Jamies ultimate skill is that of restraint.
It's an reaction video. If they want to see the video. They can go to it. Your doing great adding your comments. Keep it up.
gotta love a dude who stays hydrated
The only movement his body has is his arms. Amazing
outstanding drummer!
never watch him before but great stuff!
@@drumtechniqueacademy wholeheartedly agree. I love Ulcerate and have never had the chance to see them live, but watching him perform and seeing a breakdown by another amazing drummer really makes it even more impressive. The power he generates and his stamina is mind-blowing because most of their songs move a breakneck pace and are not exactly short. In a league of his own. 😳
I like your shirt Marthyn!
Love the stops and analyzing! Don't listen to the crybabies! Do what you do! They wanna see the whole video without stops? Go watch it! #hipflexors!
Finally, you reacted to Jamie's drumming. His drumming is inhuman, he has a video of the recording of the drumming for the new Ulcerate album in his personal CZcams channel, that video is just crazy. Personally, I think Nils and Jamie are the best drummers alive. However, their styles are different and so I cannot decide which one is better ...
Finally you reacted to the best drummer from the best band ever 🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼
I didnt mind you stopping it. I thought it was fun dude!
Hello Marthyn! Can you please review Pat Hamelin playing Gorguts, Le Toit Du Monde? Cheers!
Bah, don’t listen to the “you pause it too much” comments. People come here to get your commentary on technique and application of skills. If they want to watch the video uninterrupted they can just go view the vid 🤣
You really have to do a reaction either on Alan Cassidy or Dave McGraw. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by both of them.
I don't think you stop the videos too often! The whole point of your videos is to break down what drummers are doing. If people want to watch the performance uninterrupted, they should just go watch the original video.
Yeah man Finallly!!!!!
Excellent and informative as always. Would love an analysis of David Gray (drummer in Akercocke). Cheers!
thank you very much...
regarding david: link pls!
@@drumtechniqueacademy maybe this one? czcams.com/video/Yg7EKuDyKcE/video.html
Can you do John Stainer next? I think the guy has a really unique way of playing
Hell yeah
What are these white sticks you are using in this Video? Those look massive.
Maybe Vic Firth Ralph Hardimon Corpsmasters w/ black grip tape?
This is some of the best death metal drumming I gave ever seen? Does James Saint merat have a best song eo album with ulcerate? Have you heard better? Who? At this speed, these time changes and technicality.
A reaction / technique analysis of 'Mayhem's' HellHammer' please?
You never interrompt video to often it’s always pertinent
Philippe Boucher from Beyond Creation.
Do a reaction to Bob Beaulac from Skinless
is that shirt kvlt?
Dave Mcgraw?
HIP FLEEEEEEEEEXORS!!!!!!!!
I don’t think you interrupt too much. Yeah, you interrupt a lot, but that’s what I tune in for. If I just wanted to listen to metal I would do that, watching your videos is entertaining and educational precisely because you’re often injecting your critique and comments.
React to Bryan fajardo please!! Grindcore drummers need some love!
Please do a reaction of Meshugga-Bleed(Drum Cam).
jo Marthyn, könntest du dein practice kick pad mal vorstellen? sieht ja sehr getuned aus! mega cool. auch für trittschall etc?
I won't say something new,but Damn..Jamie is a f Beast,I've watched that drumcam alot and I enjoyed watching it again.Insane drummer, prolly one of the best in extreme scene atm.
Bar of 5/8 and a bar of 7/8 🤔 I def counted it as 3 bars of 4/4 😂😂
Bro ur left arm cyborged
That's not water Marthyn is drinking, it's the tears of whiners who complain about bass drum triggers.
Flo Mournier from Cryptopsy? He is quite something. Great vid bud
Love you bro but quit muting song volume for your comments. 🥰
Mario of Gojira.
I need someone knowledgable to explain to me why he isn't the best extreme metal drummer
The voice is so low(your voice) cuz I hear on headphones.
My only complaint is the sound level of the video. Can barely hear the video and you are also fairly quiet honestly. wearing headphones and max volume and it might as well be turned down all the way. Not saying so much louder, but just a tad would probably benefit us deaf mfers
You need to interrupt more. I want more interruptions. Also if you can do a segment when you display an idiot comment and tear it to pieces with facts.
Can I just say? Do you agree still to this day the single foot work of the drummer of Iron Maiden for years has weathered the test of time?🤔
Before triggers and next to Zeppelin has that "Powerhouse Drumming" to play about as hard as one can without being unnecessary??
Just saying??? Iron Maidens drummer should get the vote for one of the most consistent drummer of all time and his single foot work even George from Nile admires 👌
Please reaction drummer oki fadhlan jasad
too much of graphics Martin
Just talk over the video better than Pausing. You Don't pause on a music everytime you want to speak
i mean it’s an educational drumming video? So you do pause the music? To talk? Plus just talking over the video? Do I have to explain why that’s stupid? You’ve gotta be trolling lmao
I feel so bad about these drummers, they sound the same, yeah a lot of technique and speed but they have no dinamics in volume, have no musicality, its only my opinion.
Different strokes for different folks cuz
Hi Matias. Listen to this band's albums. You'll hear the dynamics on their albums. He is not all just blast beats and double bass. You're right about the rest of the drummers he reviews though.
>“No musicality”
>one of the most musically dynamic bands in compositional history
It’s in poor taste to criticize that which you don’t understand.
Disliked due to jump cuts and background music.
Yeah good drummer but the music is boring as...
Lame ass comment
