I was scared as hell when the first car (Ogier - Ford Fiesta at 3:10) appeared from that corner.. watching it as if it was levitating and moving smoothly while braking at those speeds was quite an experience :O But I managed to stay there just for the first 4 cars, then I preferred searching a "safer" place on that straight before the braking point

Being for the first time at a WRC event is something I'd never forget. And I must say it made me love even more a motorsport I loved since I was a kid watching videos from old VHS or playing old rally video games. But I really can't compare these new cars and the old ones because I've never had the pleasure to see the old ones being driven properly by the official WRC drivers (yes I saw Paddon, Latvala, Sordo, Loeb in action but they were or at Monza Rally Show, which is not a real rally, or during the San Marino' Rally Legend where they were driving just to entertain the crowd). One thing I can say for sure: the new ones have an impressive cornering speeds!

How much better/louder do the cars sound in person? In videos, they do seem to crack and bang a lot more though, but engines are the same configuration, just running at a bit higher revs due to the bigger restrictors.
They're really loud. Ford and Hyundai are louder than their old versions, Toyota seems to me the loudest and the Citroen C3 is the quietest one, probabily quieter than the old DS3 WRC

@19Bozzy92 I'm sure its just an artifact from image stabilisation but some of the clips look sped up or am I just crazy? The audio isn't pitched or anything, so it must be something like that?
No, I would say in this video I can't spot any strange behavior that create that annoying effect (which it's caused mainly by my sudden hand shaking and the stabilizer which tries to correct it). I have a few old videos where I can spot that thing. But trust me I've never sped up any of my videos, simply because there's no need

I know these cars are sequential but do they Shift with a stick or flappy paddles? O.o
They now use a single, steering column-mounted paddle. Relative to the steering wheel, it is about 90 degrees long, and is clicked inwards for upshifting, and backwards for downshifting. I think it is now the third year since they switched it from the stick sequential shifter.
I think this year will be an enoemous change of wrc. Only 11 pilots and 4 teams. Its wierd to see ogier in a ford hahaja. But I think this is the year of M-Sport reborn

Too bad for Meeke, even worse for Paddon. I don't know how Paddon feels about killing a spectator, but by no means he is responsible. Sadly, it is the spectators own fault. It was strictly forbidden to be where he was. Paddon came too quickly in the corner, there was ice, and that's it. No spectator should've been there.

Why not? old F1 cars have same engine and turbo.
Even Japanese commercial cars (DOHC) can run the same as racing cars of this video!

Can't say it for sure since I've never seen the old WRCs being driven properly. But they seem to me really fast
they are 380 bhp this year, which is up from 310 via an increased turbo charger. Plus, less restrictions on aerodynamics allows the drivers to push them harder through high speed turns. Not to mention they are 25 kgs. lighter than last years' models.
