    I wish they had talked about the fact that panicked drowning people will try to push you down to get themselves above the water. When I originally trained to be a lifeguard they made us practice on very large flailing muscular men, so we could get a real feel for it. They also trained us on how to get out of chokeholds etc when underwater.

      I’ve done that training and even doing the training is kind of scary because you can’t always catch your breath and you’re trying to help the person. Their natural instinct is to do anything that can get their head above water even if that means pushing you down. I can’t even imagine doing this with added waves and open ocean

    • @lauraladyll
      @lauraladyll Pƙed 3 lety +156

      @@amandatown800 Exactly. Natural instinct tells the drowning victim to survive in any way possible, which is why they make the training so hard. I definitely dreaded that part of the training, because it really was difficult to deal with someone who was acting psychotic and get enough air to do the manual labor of helping them and pulling them to shore all while treading water.

    • @amandatown800
      @amandatown800 Pƙed 3 lety +63

      @@lauraladyll yeah, it is a lot to handle at once. I was always told that if it comes down to it you have to save yourself first and I’m so glad that I never had to make that decision because I can’t guarantee it would be the smart decision. I’m the type of person that would want to help someone else no matter what it meant for me. Even just training it it was so difficult to listen to the instructions and push them off of me to get my head above water

      @@terkukurpikat Whimpy millenial you are!There is no question,that Michelle is "strong and empowering"(whatever this might mean).But...This very attractive and intelligent woman is engaged....and therefore OFF THE MARKET!
      Besides;this and the parcour episode,are,in my opinion, for sure not one of the best she/they produced!

      @@terkukurpikat Could you point out,what "sexualising" means in YOUR opinion???
      As a regular at attending sauna,which,by the way is coed and butt naked,I probably have a very different perception!

    as someone who regularly does open water swimming.. panic attacks can happen to anyone in open water. I can't believe you were able to do that much swimming with no training. also exhausting if you don't have the technique down. Super awesome challenge! good thing you were surrounded with lifeguards in case something went wrong :D
