  • @mikel4867

Guys, you missed it on the drawer layout! I was so excited for the Series 3 to finally come out, MAINLY for the much desired and late to the game Hutch that most competitors had available for YEARS. I could only imagine how many more Series 2 chests could have been sold if a standalone Hutch was released years ago. I know it was holding me back from buying a Series 2 was the fear that a Series 3 would be released with a hutch that would not be compatible with older generation chests AKA the Icon hutch being strategically 1" longer at 73" making it impossible to retrofit on the 72" US General Series 2, which has been addressed with the Series 3 hutches being Backward Compatible with Series 2. Let me preface this by saying I am a huge fan of Harbor Freight and it's US General Tool storage options in the past as I have bought lockers and end cabinets in the past.
So WHY so MANY DEEP DRAWERS on the Series 3??? Not only is that the case across the 72" lineup, but is also the case across ALL sizes, the 56", 42" and the 27". I need SHALLOW drawers and more of them! NOT less drawers in total and that are DEEPER! Yes every toolbox benefits from having SOME deep drawers, think blow molded cases, power tools, etc but when there's literally TWICE as many deep drawers as there are shallow drawers that's TOO many! For example the 72" chest has 9x DEEP DRAWERS and only 5x SHALLOW DRAWERS. The majority of my tools are on the smaller side. Think screwdrivers and wrenches, at best plier height. Think hand tools. There is nothing more frustrating than having to dig a small hand tool out from underneath other tools at the bottom of the drawer because of their depth or wasted empty space having several inches above the hand tools that could have been utilized for another drawer. If I need deep drawers for things like blow molded cases, that's what the locker is for! Which by the way I think you guys killed it with the locker. I have the older series and love it and I think the new one is a much improved design. But sadly, even going with something like an end cabinet as an option to get more drawers in addition to the original chest the same theme of more deep drawers then shallow drawers continues again having double the amount of deep drawers to shallow drawers at 4x DEEP to 2x Shallow.
I'm not trying to hate on Harbor Freight or the new Series 3 lineup as I think there are a lot of nice design changes and gives you a quality box at a very competitive price. I just am very disappointed in the drawer layout that seems to be across the entire Series 3 lineup having too many deep drawers in comparison to more drawers in total with more shallow drawers available. I loved the drawer layout of the series 2 72" Chests and wish I would have picked one up prior to them becoming obsolete and putting the new Series 3 hutch on top with the new designed locker and end cabinet.

these look great, and some smart upgrades, such as the charging station, extra width on lockers etc... one thing though is that with the series 3 hutch because its depth is less than the height when it is open sticks out a bit further than is comfortable and would be great to solve that. I would love owning one of these someday.

The yellow 27 inch looks awesome. The drawer format is more practical. Before, the top drawers were paper thin deep. Now much better. I will say this...the on line photos do not due justice for the yellow stuff. I recently got a yellow 5 drawer roll cart. The yellow is so bad ass in person. The phone or computer do not show how amazing the yellow actually is.

Please make wall lockers and cabinets to match the toolboxes. Lockers and cabinets such as the gladiator or older craftsman red and black that we used to see in so many garages. I feel like there is a gap in the market for those right now. At the Harbor Freight price point it would be a sell out for sure. Especially if sold in the colors to match the toolboxes. Cheers!

Great presentation. I have three of the series 2 26” models as I have to stick then between other equipment. The only things I’m not happy about with the new models is that we give up a draw and the top draw I’d too deep. I don’t understand why the top draw is a deep draw. The advantage previous is that tools that are needed most and don’t take up much depth are right in top. Now they’re not.

I have the 30 inch 5 drawer and wanted a larger one but opted for another 30 inch. To tell the truth I’m not impressed with the full drawer pull mechanism. I’m sure it’s tested, but I just don’t see that plastic piece holding up. Some of the drawers on the display units worked fine while it was difficult to release some of the others. Plus every time you put your hand up to open a drawer those plastic fins hanging down hits your fingers. I just personally like the single release on the side but that’s me. I’m sure some will love the full pull mechanism. Other than that you are killing it with new products and selection.

Two minor gripes. 1) The 27 and 42 have different height casters from the 72 and 56 so there is no way to mate one of the smaller boxes to one of the larger boxes. 2) The profile of the 27 top box is much lower than 42, so you also can't mate the 27 to the 42.

I love my series 3 56 inch in blue and I love the expandability. It is a lot for the money. I am a harbor freight fanatic as I’m a mechanic. the drawer latches are cheap cr** I’m honestly waiting for mine to break they have a lot of resistance I’m guessing from quality control issues. I went to the store with the same model and it didn’t have the same issue. Weirdly the bottom right drawer has a lot more resistance when it comes to pulling it out than anything else. I feel like the icon line is like paying for name brand. I would have paid more for better non plastic laches or resistance drawers or even the pull latch drawers. I’m surprised they didn’t change there sizes and give it more depth. I’m sure that has to do with not being an exact copy cat of name brands. For 900 dollars you just won’t find anything better it is a great box I just wish they had an option to even upgrade the latches.

Nope. I went to the store yesterday to check and asked the manager. It's not even available for pre-order yet.

Home depot just put on sale their 42" Husky with 16 drawer for $498 including a power strip.
And their 52" husky 18 drawer with two power strips for $948. I think this is a better value than the series 3 tool box.
Please consider putting the series 3 on sale

The drawer latches are lousy and most will likely remove them. The backs of the slide rails that engage the rubber latch points will also need to be spread slightly. Lastly, it’s also poor design to see the lids don’t open to vertical. It looks lame at an angle. The struts are around 14mm long. They could of engineered in an alternate attachment point to allow for vertical opening, or a different strut. But everything else I’ve measured is that 14 in strut, except for the newest 34in 6 drawer full bank cart, which uses a 19 strut to get its lid vertical. This strut to me would seem to be too long to use on the S3 42.

I've used both and I really do like flip top better. It takes up less horizontal space, which I don't always have. For a roll cart, I want it right there next to me when I'm working on something. Not 2 feet farther away because someone set a bunch of crap on top that morning, and I ain't got the patience to deal with it right now.

In a line up comparison it would be nice if you just showed apples to apples comparison on size so people can make better decisions that they would be happy with. Instead you bolt on different attachments on the side in what comes off to me as a slimy attempt to make each of the top 3 as close in width as possible. Also the green 56" cabinet in the beginning has a slightly different drawer layout than what is advertised.

  • @andriikifiak4936

To me the previous version was better in quality, and the fact that this is not comparable with the old version leaves me thinking about buying something else as in a year or two you won't be able to add to your set up. Which happened with the owners of the previous version. E.g. end cabinet height is now not matching with this version. The US General is not the way to go if you hope to extend in the future.otherwise - best value for money.

The fact that the series 3 is a 42 versus a series 2 which is a 44 is very embarrassing. Why would I buy a series 3 which is a smaller box versus a series 2 which is a bigger box

    • @alejomesa19
      @alejomesa19 Před 6 měsíci +1

It's the same size. The 44 is not really a 44 since they measured with the handle. On the series 3, they decided to be more honest with the size

Local stores never have the toolboxes in stock especially side boxes. The items are produced in China shipped over here and it never seem to make it to the stores. Some people wait up till 3 to 6 months before they even get one. A lot of their items are never in stock, but they continue to advertise them like they’re here and United States to me that is false advertisement.

Harbor Freight is tying to be the Snap On truck by leaving their base customers behind. Most homeowner/ handyman/ shade tree mechanics don't want and can't afford the new "series 3" tool boxes. They will lose many customers to Lowes / Home Depot entry level tool storage, and customers while there will discover the Craftsman / Kobalt and Husky lines are affordable and well made with lifetime warranties.
