  • Practicing emergency procedures to safely land a glider after aborting takeoff due to a cable rupture during winch launch. Thanks to tail wind during takeoff and a lee in the final approach the landing didn't go as it was supposed to.

      nuil501 It's the airfield Hütten/Hotzenwald in the Black Forest (Southern Germany).
      Btw. I don't speak Portugese and just used the Google Translator to create the description. But my Spanish skills seem to be good enough to understand what you're saying.

      Hi Bleifuss, sorry, ofc didnt know you didnt speak port. I obtained my winch-launch license in UK, but visited some gliding places in Germany, as Unterwössen and Wasserkuppe. Some brazilian guys obtained such license in Germany, so I thought you were doing the same . In Brazil we have only tow planes to launch gliders, the expensive way. I am concerned with that, we have to endeavor to change that. Thanks for sharing your video and for your answer. oscar

      nuil501 I just put in almost any language supplied by Google Translator. That tripled the views of some of my videos. In my club we have plenty Swiss because getting the license is a lot more expensive in Switzerland than in Germany. But since it's a club it takes quite long to complete it which makes coming from overseas a bad idea. I guess that soaring is very uncommon in Brazil so it isn't worth having extra equipment like winches? And every real glider pilot must visit the Wasserkuppe once (At least in Germany). I hope I can do in Autumn 2019 for the SG 38 bungee launching.

      Yes, soaring is not common in Brazil, though very ancient, dating back to 20's. But it has a huge potential, its close to equator, sun is plenty, and it is possible to fly whole year hours away without changing states, or languages. I think future here is promising on gliding, first step is to turn it more accessible, cheaper , introducing winches to launch gliders;

      Wish you succeed not only on visiting the Autumn 2019 SG 38 bungee launching meeting, but may be even piloting the old machine; Good luck;
