I love this! Lots of times I can only find upper class, high fashion depictions of the Victorian lady, so it's nice to see something more middle class. Do you think you could show us what a working class lady would've worn as well?

@Ziaberry maybe you would like to look at the channel _English Heritage_. There is something about a Mrs. Crocombe; an actual Victorian era cook in a manor house. They have a series on the real Mrs. Crocombe and her life- part four explains her clothing. "The real Mrs. Crocombe Part Four: A Victorian Cook's Outfit". Very interesting. ☺

"Because I am worth it" 😂💕Such a simple yet beautiful dress. Some think day dresses are boring but I think they are just as beautiful as the ballgowns! One day I will attempt to make a dress like this. Thanks for the video!

Interesting to think that though the subsequent crinoline cages made for a considerably wider silhouette they were, it seems, actually much easier to wear (and of much lighter weight!) than the multiple petticoats under the beautiful day dress in this video. Also, I must say that your husband truly embodies the debonair manner of a man of that era.
You two are truly a match!

Houses were basically unheated and full of cold draughts so the petticoats were needed in winter. I wear anything up to 3 full length, rather than waist length, petticoats in winter, plus a hip length sleeveless vest like shift under my bra (react to the elastic) because I find it an easy way to stay warm. Ireland doesn't generally get as cold as the UK or US either but the layers assist with my arthritis. Like the padded half petticoat, will definitely think about adding one under my dresses and the flap at the top of the shift is also something I will consider adding as it would help conceal the bra when the neckline goes slightly wrong and is too low. Much more practical than a crinoline cage and I am seriously thinking about adapting some extra half petticoats for myself. I do admit to front lacing my dresses though as maids are in short supply in my neck of the woods. Like the corset as well, how practical are they for support with big busted wearers, thinking of a 38M (UK size) but even front laced bras are much easier to put on (butcher the bras myself and adapt for front spiral laces due to mobility issues, means I can dress myself) than the traditional back fastenings. Really like your videos as they are always so informative.

I would keep my heat off if my family would let me. I wonder how women back then dealt with "the change" while wearing layers of clothing and being trapped in stifeling rooms or too drafty rooms. Yikes! Thank you Central Air!

A pillow under the dress would do, I think. Even if 19th century brought special "abdominal corsets" for "recently married ladies" I wouldn't want to see anyone wear a corset during pregnancy just to show a fashion style here.
