  • In this video, author and mental health educator Douglas Bloch shares a spiritual principle that has transformed his life and the lives of others--that every adversity contains within it the seed of an equivalent or greater good. He gives a number of examples to illustrate this principle, including his own experience of overcoming a life-threatening depressive illness.

An excellent presentation to restore my hope that things will get better. On my own life, although I am still struggling with depression, anxiety and agoraphobia to the extent that at times they are crippling, I have met some wonderful people through the live chats on this channel. I now have friends all over the world, and they actually understand what I’m going through and we help each other get through the hard times and celebrate with each other when something good occurs. If I didn’t have this current episode, I would have never met you, Douglas, or all the other caring, kind and supportive people on the live chats, nor would I have had a chance to help others when I can. Friendship is cherished and true friends who stick with you through thick and thin are rare. To have so many friends who have supported me when I’ve needed some advice, a listening ear or a bit of love is a blessing I never expected to have. I try to do the same for them. How fabulous it is when people from different countries, different religions, different cultures can all pull together toward a shared goal!

Hi, Shirley, yes, I too am thankful for people like you, and Douglas and Peadar and the wonderful people that come together on live chat, I would be lost with out Douglas and his uplifting and supportive videos. Even though this horrible illness makes you if so alone, we really have each other. I had a major relapse after I took my 2nd Pfizer shot, not sure what happened. I know I had a lot of anxiety worrying about the side effects of the 2nd shot, so not sure if this made the side effects worst. I was doing well until the 4 day after the vaccine then my anxiety and depression got way worst. Please pray for me Shirley and I will keep you in my prayers too. God Bless you!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻let’s pray for our Healing from Head to toe in Jesus Name Amen 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕🙏🏻

@@MCE593 Hi Evelyn, I too was extremely worried about getting the second shot and I do think the worrying made the side effects worse which then triggered the depression and anxiety to be worse. It was that downward spiral effect. Now I’m in the fifth week of having headaches every day! My doctor and I think that my chronic sinus infection just went wild when my allergies were agitated by all the stuff blooming at once. The last few days have not been as bad as the prior weeks so perhaps things are clearing up. The mind body connection is stronger than most of us realize. I am sorry to hear that you are struggling. The pandemic itself has been a true source of stress. You are right, we may feel alone but we do have each other, and we understand the depths of pain and sadness each other can feel. I will pray that you start feeling better soon. I had to take a few Sundays off as I was getting burn out and worrying so much about some of our members and neglecting my self care pretty badly. Peadar has been holding down the fort and doing a great job keeping us all in touch. I am a big believer in having a pity party when things get too difficult to deal with effectively. It may help you. I set aside an hour, get a box of tissues and a small paper bag for the soiled tissues, sit on the floor and just let loose-cry, rant, rave, express all those pent up emotions, let them out and see them in the light of day. I usually end up at about the 30 minute point chuckling at the sight of a grown woman sitting on the floor crying, surrounded by dirty tissues that missed the paper bag when tossed. Then I feel much better. Sometimes your body and soul need to express what has built up inside.
The good news on the bad side effects of the second shot is that if you felt crummy, it means your immune system is working and building antibodies to the virus. So, although uncomfortable, the feeling bad was proof of something good. It fits right in with the topic off the video. What seemed bad at the time was actually proof of something good. I hope you start feeling better soon and temper the four magic words “This too shall pass”. My bracelet with that engraved on it is on my wrist right now. You are a strong person and have been through worse times, so this is just a temporary setback. We all have them, I believe. Have faith that better days are coming. ❤️🙏🏻🤗🌹

@@shirleykaye4344 , it’s weird cause I didn’t even have much side effects from the shot itself, of course my arm was really, sore and I no fever. Maybe just very slight body aches, but that could of been from cleaning windows the day before the shot. But I think you are right about all the worrying of what the 2nd shot would be like probably triggered the relapse. Thank you for reaching out, and yes please keep praying for me!! Thank you so much!!

I lost my only child to suicide. It's been a blessing in disguise. I've discovered God's grace, something I had heard of but never truly experienced until now. I've discovered a spiritual path that's given me peace, joy and love. I no longer take any medications or drink and that's a miracle. I've found several books very helpful, "Ego-less Self" as well as "Radical Forgiveness". I've discovered we are all on a journey Home. The pain and suicidal depression I was in has brought me to this place. I couldn't take the pain anymore and cried out to God, He heard. I will remember what you shared, "abracadrabas". I like that. Thank you for letting me share and God bless you and all of us on this journey. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤

Thank you for this video, I completely agree about the things I've been through. At one point, my therapist asked me "IF you could go through all of it again, would you change anything?" I thought about it for a few minutes, and said "NO. If I didn't go through what I did, I wouldn't be who I am today." She was surprised and asked me to elaborate. I told her that the things I've been through have NOT been pleasant my any means, but I have learned from them, and that what makes me stronger today.
Bless you Douglas! Have a safe weekend and as always, looking forward to your next video! 💕🙏
