Thomas Grubb's Singing in French: A Manual of French Diction & French Vocal Repertoire was published in April of 1979 by Schirmer Books/Macmillan, almost immediately establishing Grubb as a leading authority on both subjects. Since then, some forty-two years ago, his book has sold steadily throughout the world. As a faculty member at the Juilliard School, Manhattan School, the Curtis Institute and the Peabody Conservatory, Grubb taught actively for fifty years. As pianist and vocal coach, he has collaborated with singers such as Renee Fleming, Audra McDonald, Benita Valente and Eleanor Steber. He has also given master classes throughout North America, Europe and Asia and served as juror for the Metropolitan Opera Guild auditions, the International Paris Voice Competition and the Fulbright Commission. Grubb coached all the French opera productions at New York City Opera for more than twenty years. In 2002 the French Ministry of Culture decorated Thomas Grubb as a member of the Order of Arts and Letters for his contributions to French culture around the globe.
