    I have the Franklin Christoph Pocket 40 with a broad 14k nib. I switched out the steel nib that was on it because I prefer the wetness of the gold nib. Thanks for showing your collection!

    I just ordered the green glass model 02 Vanness collaboration from Vanness Pens in July 2024. I saw someone's unboxing video a few days ago and thought it was a recent release, so I raced to order one. They were out of fine, but the rest were available? They advertised only 75 per batch. Did they do more batches since this vid? Idk, but it's coming Friday. 😍

    This is a lovely FC collection. 😍 I have a few as well, most of mine have “normal” nibs but I really want a SIG nib in each size, at the very least.

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 3 lety

      The SIG nibs are wonderful--and each size has its own character. The only size I would look out for sometimes being a little funky is the broad SIG. One of mine had hard starts until I used a REALLY wet ink. But, of course, FC's customer service is amazing and if you have any problems, they will make it right.

    What’s your take on the difference between a CI vs a SIG? Their website seems to indicate the CI is sharper which has kept me from getting it but I’m so tempted!! Seems like the line variation is more obvious than a SIG

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 3 lety +1

      I think the “gradient” part of the SIG nib means that you can write at any angle (up or down) so it is more forgiving than a cursive italic. They both feel just as “sharp” to me when writing with them so the writing experience is similar (but I don’t find them too sharp). Of the two I think I slightly prefer cursive italic, but they both have their charm and it’s a pretty personal decision which one you will prefer. I think you might see a little more line variation with the CI like you say.

    I’m thinking of getting a new FC with a fine or medium 14k….so few reviews on their pens with gold nibs. Aaaand, seeing all you have, I really don’t need to feel guilty about buying my third….
    I love Sex & Candy. It needs a sparkly, shimmery, tacky ink to do it justice….like Diamine PartyTime - a deep bright electric pink with blue sheen and shimmer. Ah, would be perfect. They have Sex & Candy available now, but it’s a smaller model with a #5 nib, I prefer the #6 nibs. Too bad.

    What a nice range of FC's you have. I wonder if you would care to comment on any performance differences amongst the models, or are the differences just aesthetic?

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 2 lety +1

      The differences are mostly aesthetic as far as performance goes, but the different models have a very different feel in the hand, so it really comes down to personal preference.

    Lovely collection. The 55 and 20 are asthetically so awesome and beautiful writers as well. I liked the medium stub a lot.
    Did you try converting either of these and use for drawing! That would be fun. 😁

      @MysteryArts  Před 3 lety +1

      Strangely I haven't used any of these for drawing--probably because I have so many others that I use for that purpose.

    Out of curiosity, you mentioned that you like to post your pens but moving away from it. Is the choice to move away due to the caps causing damage to the pens or related to "Fountain Pen Culture"? This is more for pens that when posted does NOT cause the pen to become back heavy. I ask this because it seems to be mentioned a lot in FP videos. Thanks much!

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 3 lety +1

      I used to post all pens that could be posted--even if they were back heavy or awkward when posted. Now I don't post the pens that are back heavy or awkward, but I still prefer to post. I've been lucky in that none of my pens (even the ones that are awkward to post) have been damaged by posting.

    Thanks for the video! I was looking into getting my first FC pen with a CI when I came across your video. This is really helpful. From the writing sample, I couldn't really tell if there was major line variation differences between the F, M and B CI nibs. Does the B CI too broad/wet for everyday writing on cheap copy paper?

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 2 lety +1

      Depending on how you write (your angle may allow more ink to hit the page), and the ink you use, the BCI might be too wet on cheap copy paper. It should work great on fountain pen friendly paper though.

    Other than them being wetter, what do you think of their gold nibs? I love the steel #6 nib, no fancy grind, just their house nib. It’s very smooth and even to write with. Do you think there is a major difference in feel and writing performance with the #6 fine 14k in comparison? I missed out on the last pen show near me, and one of the things I wanted to do there was try out their gold nib. It’s a lot to spend on an unknown….I know I can buy a Pilot or Platinum pen with a gold nib in any size and it’s going to be fine….but I don’t own any European gold nibs.

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 2 lety +1

      Truthfully, I think the gold nib is not tremendously better than the steel nibs. They are wetter and a bit softer, but I find that I write more with the steel nibs more.

    • @geslinam9703
      @geslinam9703 Před 2 lety

      @@MysteryArts well, turns out you are right. I bought an 03 with a fine 14k. It’s nice, but the size 6 steel nib I have writes smoother. I actually was very disappointed at first - but, it’s grown on me. I am glad I got it because it writes/feels different than any other pen I have, and that’s a good thing because I want a different writing experience with each, I don’t want them all to write the same. I would say the gold nib has more feedback, that is the main difference. Line width is about the same with the fine gold and fine steel. I really am glad I saw this video because beforehand, I was considering a medium 14k and based on your writing sample and thoughts, it would have been too broad for me.
      Considering the price, I don’t think I’ll get anymore of their gold nibs. I can get a Pilot with a gold nib for much less. Now I’m considering a SIG nib. FC doesn’t have any nibs listed as a stub right now, am I right assuming the SIG is their version of a stub? Since I just spend so much on the 03, I might get one of their smaller pens….but the smaller nib is what is making it hard for me to decide. Would you say the FC size 5 nib is the same size as Pilot’s #5? I’m not crazy about smaller nibs. The only small nib I really like is the one in the Pilot Decimo/Vanishing Point.

    • @MysteryArts
      @MysteryArts  Před 2 lety +1

      @@geslinam9703 I think the FC size 5 nib is a little smaller than Pilot's #5 nib (it's not the same sizing), so you probably want to stick with the size 6 nib if you don't like smaller nibs. The SIG is a little different than a stub--there is more line variation between vertical and horizontal lines and the horizontal is a bit finer than on a stub. I personally love the SIG nibs--they add character to my writing, but are not too "fussy" to write with.

    • @geslinam9703
      @geslinam9703 Před 2 lety

      @@MysteryArts ok, thanks. Good to know. I definitely do not want a nib smaller than the Pilot 5. That leaves me with only 2 options in the lower price ranges, the pocket 20 or the Stabilo.

      @@MysteryArts I think the SIG nibs are ground more rounded, so are a little smoother. I’ve been planning on getting one of their pens with a gold nib, but nothing really wows me in the selection right now. I have an 02 in Italian Ice, and unlike most people, I just don’t care for their clear pens. They feel cheap to me. I do love my 46, though (Blue Orchid). It’s a sturdy, comfortable, and sleek pen and I’ve had no problems with mine…so I’m going to get the 46 in Gemstone with the 14k F nib. Also going to buy a SIG nib, and change out with the EF in my 02. I don’t mind the EF, it’s pretty decent…but I don’t find myself using it much. I’ve grown bored with really fine nibs.
