- Now that we made it back from Florida in the Malibu, it’s time to go over the cars and make any needed repairs. Some things I expected, like the gas gauge sending unit. But I was SHOCKED at what we found when we got the car up in the air. 🥹
In other news, the 55 has officially gone under the knife, as @HouseofPearls begins the painstakingly treacherous task of replacing all the rusted out sheet metal on mom and dad’s 55.

Seeing that caliper hanging like it was on the drive back home and knowing Tess was riding along with him. I 100% get how upset he got when he discovered it. That could have ended really bad. I just hope he didn’t go off on anyone about it.

Those 307s are bullet proof !! A great motor for Vicky !!! Just a nice little motor . I had one in my 71 Malibu as a teenager and could not blow it up because i Wanted to so my dad would let me build a 350. That was the early 80s
We had a truck with one in it!!! That ole motor took a beatin!! Timex is what we called them!!!
Thats the only SBC that can be bored to a 4.00" standard bore.....they're thick!
Historically they had soft valve guides back in the day and smoked like a bitch.
I had a 307 as well out of a Chevelle that I put in my 78 Monte Carlo (like Bill's) once the factory 305 took a crap.It was a great replacement for a 16 year old kid with little budget!
They dont make enough power to blow up! Weak as water

I love it, it’s about the only time I get that feeling anymore. Driving I’ve been pretty fast and still can’t scare myself like riding in the passenger side of even a 10sec car.

Third shift lunch break. I get to watch some OMG while I feed my face before getting back to work. Even the perfect length, i get a half hour...Good stuff. Cracked me up when Billy scared you in the 55. Reminded me of a ride I took my dad on once, in my 71 Nova lol. He yelled at me too. Good memories.
Reminds of the my mother in-law rode to town with me in the 1970ss 396. She just looked at me like she cud hit me. Never said word. Nova scarily with big block. She is gone and car too. Not my memory yet😊
Nut and bolt check is always a good idea. And have the guys use a paint pen on the bolts after they tighten them so you can see it they come loose

Yep, but if you remember back, there was too many people and too much going on in the shop. Strange should know what size bolts to send, but obviously something happened. I've never installed one of those kits, so maybe it doesn't come with bolts. Glad it was found before.......

@@dnunley423 I can promise you’ve I’ve never fucked up a spindle because I didn’t install a caliper bracket correctly. Strange send VERY good instructions out with their stuff and if you take a few minutes to read them, you’ll have zero problems. Thinking you can put stuff together without reading and following instructions is what causes stuff like this.
Don’t get pissy with me because I say stuff like this absolutely cannot happen. I’m sure Bill let him hear it as well.

Hopefully buckwheat changed the AC hoses from the original ones. If that malibu was originally R12 refrigerant it will leave a coating on the inside of the rubber hoses. That coating flakes off the inside of the hoses when it is retrofitted with R134A refrigerant. This causes the grey death inside your AC system when he pulled the orifice out. You cant flush the hoses clean. The rubber keeps that stuff embedded so its best to replaced them or you end up with another failed compressor with more contamination inside the system. Im sure he also replaced the accumulator / drier also which collects junk in the system...
Tough seeing the 55 cut up like that tons of faith in those young kids.The Malibu took a licking and kept on ticking great video. Love y’all.

@3:21 Brought me right back to 1989, senior in HS and once final report cards came out my dad honored his word and took me down to pick out a car at the local Chevy dealer. I picked out a beautiful blue 1989 IROC Z. It had the 5.7 Liter L98 engine rated at 240 horsepower. I know that’s nothing on this Channel, but to a 17 year old kid it was amazing. Anyhow our test drive went about the same, him stomping the floor in the passenger seat trying to find some magic brakes. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
