Umm, I recorded the cowbell and hand claps, my friend Ray recorded the Shakers and hand claps and my other friend Rene played the congas with a bassist who also played guitar riffs. It was all live music recored in October of 1979 at Delta Studios on in Ave in NYC. Grand Master wasn't there, ask Melle Mel if you don't believe me. By the way Terry Lewis who produced the recording disappeared with the profits and we had signed papers with him.
Can you tell us more about the recording of this song? How did the song come about? And Terry Lewis - is this the same person from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis fame?
Langston Collin I was playing drums in St Mary's park on a Sunday and Terry Lewis approached us about doing studio time. We were a little weary of him so we called delta Studio and found that he had booked studio time so we went down and recorded two days. Aside from the furious five there was another rapper named A.J. and Scorpio. They didn't used A.J. and Scorpio because A.J. was making a scene. P.S.: we made papers with Terry Lewis and he took off with the money.

@@j.merchant-smith7900As soon as Rakim, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick came on the scene, lyricism transformed to another level. 85-86 being the turning point.
My cousin (who is a Hip Hop legend in his own right) Phill Most Chill gave me a copy of this. I took it and played it at house party in Philly and shocked they minds! The Super Rappin versions were hot at that time, so to hear them Furious Five lyrics over that Stephanie Mills instrumental was inconceivable. I had to make sure that D.J. gave me my sh*t back!!!😅
This is Hip Hop History right here!!! Bought this when it came out. I ALWAYS considered this to be the FIRST rap record. Why? It was all rap. Fatback's song was R&B with a little rap sprinkled through out the beat.
this song is a version of oneness of juju 'every way but loose'...that is rnb as well...anyway this isnt the 1st,,, other records came out in 79 tanya winley, 'Rhymin' And Rappin', Funky Four Plus One More 'Rappin And Rocking The House'. Solid C., Bobby D. Kool Drop 'Wack rap'...all out in 79..and theres others as well...

The furious five emcees will go down as five of the most under-rated in the history of what was then called “rap,” now referred to as hip-hop (courtesy of KEITH Cowboy.) Melly Mel is in my top ten emcees point blank!, (RIP Cowboy.)
This is a more “raw” version of “Super Rappin” The beat is different but most of the rhymes are the same taken from routines and rhymes they used to spin in the clubs of the NYC 70s when rap was a underground NYC art form. Only real difference between this version and the later version is Rahiem’s verse
It's kind of weird to think that this song came out BEFORE my father made a ROUND mixtape of the music he liked on a reel-to-reel recorder and one of the songs on one of the tapes was Blondie's "Rapture". And also today I learned that Christopher Cross'es album from 1979 was recorded on a digital recorder. So--You think it's new? Think again!
I heard this version once back in the day and then it was gone and replaced with Superrappin. I like Rahiem’s verse better on this version “I am so fly for the ladies to see to all the fellas I’m a threat to society”

I don't know Terry lewis probably stole it too with Brasilia (Brass) Records. We recorded the second day. We had nothing to do with the production. They brought a lot of Bronx talent that day. that second day is when they put down "We rap More Mellow" with the musicians (Latin Percussion, Bass, Guitar some keyboards and hand claps. I remember talking with AJ and his partner. i could be wrong but i think he told us his name was scorpio.
LOL When I was blessed to hear this for the first time, my conclusion was SuperRappin' was rap's first remix. Personally I prefer this 2-step groove better. I think Joe and Sylvia Robinson had to change up the beat to distinguish the sound from one label to another.
Alfonso they almost made this song all over on enjoy called super rapping we're they rap over seven minutes of funk don't whole me against that just like message two in Scorpio I hear the same beat once again good sharing DJ knowledge DJ mighty master cee Rock on
So this funky joint must have come out before Rappers delight?... Only reason being that it's not on the Sugar Hill label... I know its shaving things 'right down to the bone' of Hip Hop history ...but.. If it comes down to days and dates within weeks in 79 we all would love to know... Did this record come out first or after or evening during.. Imagine if (hype-prophetically speaking) Sugar Hill Gang battling (for their lives) against The Furious Five .. Live on stage... Either way SugarHillGang would have got 'Furiously-Crushed' twice! (they should have rapped about pizzas instead) PEACZzzzEr P P PEACE

In Kool Moe Dee’s “There’s a God on the Mic”, Melle Mel is ranked as the number one emcee of all time; a ranking I agree with.

9+ minutes of fuckin great oldschool hiphop. I wish I could get this 12" one day!
go on discogs! reissues (especially Euro ones) are affordable
Speeded up to 1.50 sounds so much like my national music. Amazing how African early hip hop sounds.

Hahahaha...I would not have caught that because it is somewhat hidden by the snare hit.

Yes
Only superrapping came out in 79, flash to the beat came like in 82.✌️
They faded off the last half hour...

Is that the same Terry Lewis from Jimmy Jam?
We gotta give a fuck😂😂
I dug this, but superrappin was much mo betta.
Rahim said they were never paid for this song in 1979. They were ripped off by the producer. He didn't even us their name on the label as you can see.
A big rip of The Furious Five.
Was this produced by Terry Lewis, as in Jimmy Jam?
No
@@johnniecale I don't know about that. This has a similar sound to Captain Rapp's "I Can't Stand It!" That was a Jimmy and Terry joint!
it wasn't. there are two different people named Terry Lewis.@@thescatman5029
