      @queensofthedthrone8267 Před 5 měsíci +8

      @@Highlander2475a whopping .5% of Metallica’s songs have Dave’s cowriting.
Here’s my deep dive of Megadeth

Only good years were with Marty Friedman and their best albums (third being several ranks above fourth and the rest) being Youthanasia, Rust in Peace, and Countdown to Extinction in that order.
      1. Because the band found glorious anthemic songwriting and Mustaine’s BEST lyrics. Family Tree is truly unlike any other song out there.
      2. Obviously, not #1 because Youthanasia has grown on me so much
      3. One leg in each of the album before and after, rather extensive and progressive or catchy and pop influenced.
The rest is 90%+ of the time really try-hard thrash (which has time and place but C tier - which is S tier right? -, wonkily experimental, or so overdriven by elementary school level of political symbolism that, yeah, if you like it good for you, but even as a political empathizer, I find it drab, and extremely difficult to “Name That Riff” to a given song title.
Friedman truly made the band immortal, incorporating shredder elements that no other band has done in a more catchy way, really backing off when it needs to while still thrashing in the cage. Really adds so much atmosphere when he has to as well. Probably the best of any shredder from the 80s.
And that’s what you get for saying or heavily implying “Metallica’s discography is technically Megadeth’s.” While I have about the same number of songs (a few albums worth) I like from both groups, at least the songwriting of Metallica is so good that I can name the majority of their discography. Megadeth… eh, you either remember a silly idea “Sleepwalker” or the faint memory of a cool riff (hard to name something you ultimately can’t remember).

I liked Fuel at first, but I'm kind of sick of it. There are better songs on Re-Load. My biggest issue with Re-load is some of the terrible songs on there. There are great songs on both albums. They should have just cut the bad ones and made them one album.
I think people's biggest problem is them cutting their hair short. That is cringe no matter how you look at it. It's fine if 1 or 2 prefer short hair, but all of them doing it together was just weird. Obviously James wears his hair short now days, but Kirk prefers his long.

The most amazing thing about Metallica is that they are the biggest Metal band of all time despite the fact that they essentially coast off the momentum of their first decade of output.
Their first 5 albums - 4 monumental Thrash classics and one uber-popular Stadium-Metal album.
That 5 album run proves to be enduringly and universally popular.
They have their fair share of haters but no other Metal band seems to captivate non-Metal fans as much as Metallica does. People can argue that Sabbath, Priest and Maiden are superior bands overall but Metallica have a different audience to those bands. They're the one Metal band that even casual Rock fans somehow get behind and appreciate.
As someone who has dived deep into many lesser known Thrash bands - I still don't think anything quite matches the greatness of Metallica at their peak.
It just goes to show - legendary status doesn't come from how long you hold your peak - but how high that peak is. They had a phenomenal decade and have put out some pretty good stuff since - but let's face it - it's that first decade that will go down as their immortal legacy.

Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are two of my absolute favorite albums ever and I think their absolute masterpieces, but I haven’t regularly had Metallica in my rotation in like at least a decade.
To me, their entire legacy is their first five albums, and death magnetic because of nostalgia reasons. That’s the first record that got me into heavy metal music.

I do think there are great songs in each, like Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn, The Fixxxer, Hero of the Day, Unforgiven II, King Nothing, Where The Wild Things Are... If they chose to just make one album with just these songs together, it would've probably been a lot better.

Load was actually my first “metal” (let alone Metallica) album, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it. I was 17 when I bought it in early 2000, and while it took a couple listens for me to get into it, I eventually grew to love it.
I remember being really surprised when I later found out about the enormous backlash the album got upon release. Which I agree was pretty unfair in hindsight (and very of-its-time - I don’t think an album like Load would be as controversial/hated if it were released today), but it’s also probably a “you have to have been there to really understand it” thing.
Fortunately, hatred for the album definitely seems to have died down. And those who dislike it now seem to dislike it more for the quality of the music itself than for superficial/unrelated factors like the band’s haircuts or change in music stylings.
    Sorry for the long comment!

I came into Metallica when they were still making thrash albums. I think a lot of this has to do with how popular they were. Even when they were a thrash band, they were the top thrash band, and there was a lot of jealousy and resentment. Then after they changed, people had a sense of betrayal. I didn't care for their stuff from Load on. Just not my taste. But I don't undertstand why people get so mean about what music people like. If you like Metallica, great. If you like Megadeth, great. If you like Testament, great. It is all music

@@Bedrockbrendanmetal is full of close minded gatekeepers and popular is bad. People hate on Metallica and its members because it's "cool" and trendy to hate on them within the metal community. I don't think they sold out with load music wise it was the look that turned people off. The hair was trying to break away from the typical 80s hair band look but the make up stuff was a bad idea. This is James giving up control and letting kirk and Lars decide more stuff and it didn't work out lol.
Death magnetic is awesome...everything they've done after imo. Metallica was never 100% thrash even in the early days after like kill em all. Idk why people shit on them for not being 100% thrash when they stopped that in 1983 lol...I also love Alice in chains and stuff like that so the load stuff was cool for me. I don't care about them being 100% thrash because imo they never were anyways and I like alot of other styles of music too.

So I just spent the whole morning at work listening to thrash metal albums. I went through Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Anthrax, Slayer, Sepultura, and Ride the Lightning. As much as I like a ton of thrash bands, Metallica’s albums are just so distinctively a step above. They have powerful ballads about war and loss and insanity, adding some real variety as opposed to just fast riffs every song. Also, they were one of the earlier thrash bands like it or not. Kill ‘Em All is a top notch album and it was 1983. And some hard riffs that still get me to this day. I love the riffs on Creeping Death every time I hear it. After Justice it was kind of all over but their 80s albums are just unmatched I think. Megadeth is a close contender but they never had the songwriting of Metallica.

Metallica are not the heaviest band out there, but you’ll have to find a really strong argument against their songwriting, because I believe they are THE best songwriters in metal, at least for their first 5 albums. Unlike a lot of the other metal bands of their era, they showed a clear evolution in sound, musicianship, and ambition from Kill ‘Em’ All all the way up to …and Justice for all. Seeing them go from a pretty foundational yet standard hardcore/trash band to making 10-minute long borderline prog songs is astounding, however this wouldn’t be without their songwriting and of course Cliff Burton, who introduced the band to a lot of musical theory. You can shit on this band all you want, but there is no denying that they left an indelible impact on not just metal, but music. And to piss off all you Megadeth fans, I think Metallica kicks the shit out of Megadeth in the songwriting department.

Picked up Puppets in middle school in 86' and have been on the Metallica train ever since. IMO there are no bad albums. While Load/ReLoad are not my favorites, I can still honestly say they are solid albums with some really great songs...that's why many of the tracks are in their live sets. You can shit on St Anger's (people love to shit on it don't they) snare sound all you like but it's a pingy snare, So Fucking What...there are still some bangers on there. The first 5 albums are perfection and put out in less than 10 years...that is unheard of but they still have put out some great material the last 30 years whether you are man enough to admit it or not. It's called evolution, that's why they stand on top. I love Megadeth but some of their albums are hard to tell apart..Slayer just kept making the same album over and over again...Anthrax on the other hand grew and evolved as well (but they're another band people like to shit on). LuLu is not a Metallica album and how the fuck are you going to leave out a fantastic album in 72 Seasons? 38 year's ago Metallica said “Following our instinct, not a trend, Go against the grain until the end”...they kept their word and we love them for it.

And though I haven’t really been into them for the better part of the last 15-20 years I certainly listened to the entirety of their discography enough times for a lifetime. I fell off after Death Magnetic because I finally grew up after High School lol. But point being, in ALL THIS TIME!!! I never noticed the Black Album really is a FLAWLESSLY MIXED album! Why do people think you have to "grow up" or "move on" from Metallica as if you cant enjoy their shit past a certain age which imo is ridiculous. I saw them in st louis in November and it was packed and such a badass show I seen people from children to 75 years old and everyone in between and everyone was loving it. It's trendy to hate on Metallica or demean people for like Metallica as if they're somehow "metal noobs" because they like Metallica. They're so popular that the metal gate keepers 0 in on them and their fans. This is just my .02 being a 40 year old guy who first got into them in 1991 with the black album when I was 8.

I think the first five albums are top tier, having said that, it was Load that got me into the band. I was 12 when that came out and I saw the music video for Until it Sleeps on MTV when it came out. So that album and era will always hold a special place in my heart. I love those albums. Load and reload, S&M, Garage Inc. I Disappear. Even some songs on St Anger are killer live.

The Temu sponsorship is alarming considering that company's track record

St Anger is now seen as better now because it's the first Metallica album that lots of people that are now in their 30s heard

There are people who can look back with nostalgia goggles, but I'd only heard St. Anger a few times on TV when I was a kid. Listening to the album as an adult with no nostalgia, I can hear what they were going for, but they just did a horrible job. The ideas are pretty good, but everything else is mid or bad. That's why I made some changes, re-recorded the album, and put it up on my channel. I saw what it could have been if it was done well. :P

As a 15 year old kid who first discovered Metallica by chance at my local record store in 1984, the only albums I listen to are the first three. Cliff and Dave were the reasons this band WAS good

To this day, if I'm somewhere and hear "Fuel" playing, I immediately look around and think "is NASCAR on?"

I only hear it when they play it on the The Rock radio station as I'm driving. It's a great driving song.
