The video filmed on March 22, 2024, on this day, Upala asked Lengaï to privately train his combat skills. Every time Monza kicked the door indoors, Upala appeared restless because he was the youngest and possibly the weakest in the troop. Therefore, he requested Lengaï to accompany him in training.

Lengai’s gentleness with Upala reminds me of how silverbacks play with their small children. Upala seems to have a sensitive, moody almost childlike personality. Do you know how old he was when he joined the troop? These two beautiful fellows have a special, loving bond. Very nice video.
Upala has been living with Lengai in this troop for 12 years now. He was born on May 27th, 2008, and has been here since he was 4 years old, so his bond with Lengai runs deep.
Animal Diaries, Thank you for answering my question. I was wondering if Upala joined the troop as a very young gorilla and 4 is very young. Lenagai has been protecting sweet Upala for most of Upala’s life. That explains the dynamic they have. What a wonderful relationship they share.

I've never seen two silverbacks behave like this. Is this common in bachelor groups? They are both so handsome and gentle with each other. Also this is the first video I've seen of them being outside. It's hard to gauge the size of the enclosure, but it looks nice and green. They look happy and relaxed. 💖💖🦍
They are indeed very close🤣, and it's my first time seeing them interact like this up close.😅 I think it's uncommon. As the weather gets warmer, they will spend more time outdoors.❤️❤️❤️🦍🦍🦍
In San Diego there’s a bachelor group Mandazzi is the dominant think there Al brothers but Denny the youngest has a strong relationship with Mata who is protective Denny is still a black back. This seems unique nice for them cause otherwise they are solitary. Monza is a bit intimidating

yes, they're been living together in this zoo for 12 years, growing up together. Upala was born in 2008, while Lengai was born in 2003. Upala started living with Lengai when he was 4 years old, and Lengai was 9.
