@@ald7282 True! Sometimes I need to borrow stuff from one frame to the other because I don't find anything that fits the vibe in the frame assigned and when I put it on my sim it looks off. So here I am relying on CC again in other to have cool Sims 😅
This is literally why I can never make a male sim because there clothes are never good they always look feminine but not like in a weird way but I really wish the men got some good clothes to and I can’t use cc because I use console
I also find that a lot of this oversized, baggy stuff makes female framed Sims' hips look so weird?? In a way that it wouldn't irl. I don't know, just looks weird for me. I never use that Incheon item because of it.

As infuriating as it is to be sold leftovers, I would happily buy them if they added stuff for the other ages! We got barely any tattered werewolf clothing for our kids and toddlers, and obviously nothing for infants. If they released a kit with clothes on a matching theme for those younger ages, I would be all over that!
I third this. That they didn't have Doc Marten-style boots, platform Mary Jane's, thigh high tights, velvet dresses, and more plaid is just a crime. That they have hoodies is weird too. I don't recall a hood on anything other than the zip up sweatshirt.
Some of it definitely looks more like the "omg so grungy"-stuff in the funky section in Primark, and some of it is really cool and as a now old scene-kid I'd still wear it. 😂
Agreed! I hoped for something more old school grunge. I love love love the mesh top though, it is speaking to my past self! I also disagree on Satch's assessment that it isn't a male top, he needs to hang around the places I hang around more 😂

I definitely agree that some of it looks like what basic people think grunge is, but a lot of it I can totally imagine seeing on a grunge musician or something.

Maybe I just don’t have the packs that contain hoodies, but I actually think we do lack hoodies, at least men’s hoodies and full length hoodies for women. A lot of the hoodies I have at least are all cropped or not the best texture imo. We have a lot of oversized sweaters and sweatshirts, but apart from the moschino one there aren’t a lot of oversized hoodies. I personally always long for more hoodies when making sims cause they’re all cropped or old.
I hate the push for gender neutral clothing in the Sims. It's made them lazy when creating these pieces. They look terrible on both masculine and feminine bodies. This is not grunge, at least not true grunge of the 90's.
I am not going to lie you are right about the gender neutral stuff. It simply doesn’t work for certain pieces. They should slightly modify some of them, because some of these things do look weird depending on the body frame. Like sure use the same design but please oh please make some changes so they don’t look odd or broken on sims.

There have been a TON of tops that have been in the last few packs that have made sims look fat or misshapen. Off the top of my head I think the oversized things from High School Years and Growing Together are the worst offenders. Most of the sweatshirts, sweaters, and jackets look horrible. I mean the style is fine, but the fit is waaaaay off. I don't know why they keep doing it.
I'm technically "woke" and disagree on not being allowed to wear what you like but I agree that not everything should be gender neutral and they should definitely invest in masculine clothing and it's not "inclusive" to make less masculine clothes.

The oversized hoodies are weird. They stick out like it’s a butt. It never tries to fit to the body. Idk if anyone gets that. But it’s like there’s an invisible butt underneath. Cc does a good job of showcasing how oversized clothing should look even if someone is very small in size. The back of the hoodies should not be lifted like that, it should just lay down.
I was in my late teens during the grunge era and this is just a whisper of that. Like you said, it’s idealized from people who were babies during the era. This isn’t gatekeeping and obviously it’s not their fault they weren’t of the time, but I wish they would do heavier research to up the authenticity. They could have watched music videos and enjoyed themselves without having to smell the real grunge kids. 😂
Yep, it was stuff gathered from thrift stores and scruffy old things from the back of the closet. It became imitated by fashion when it got popular though, shops started selling clothes like it to profit from what was trending .
I was thinking like Avril type outfits. Those jeans that were sooooo huge at the bottom🤣 the boots with the little hooks on the side...that mesh top on the guys is horrible and def not grunge
that black dress with the shirt under it... i knew so many girls in highschool who wore that. and most of them weren't emo or grunge or any of the sort. it was just a common fashion thing in the 00s
I live the golden age of grunge (yes, i'm that old) and it doesn't look grunge for me, it's too clean (werewolves pack stuff is more grungy) It also lacks of chequered shirt (yes, i know 😂) the shoes are nice but not relevant for a true grunge style (i think about dr martens or big van's). The troussers also must have been way more baggy and the belt different (like rather with a long key/wallet chain) . Yes that's some "grungycore" look for gen Z, and that's ok in a way, but that's not true grunge. I'm also ok with the male "crochet pullover" (i absolutely don't know how it's called in english) it's a feminime frame, and i'm some king of weird woke NB person who wears that kind of stuff : this does not look good on a male frame
Agreed. They should of given us something authentically grunge instead of this. Imagining any grunge band dressed like this makes me laugh. The mesh top (thing with holes) doesn’t fit the male frame at all. He’s right, it’s made for females and then turned unisex as is their habit recently.
I really f’ing love how satch is relatable. This pack isn't exactly werewolves to me, werewolves is more proper grunge since it's more like...torn and tattered. Dumpster finds if you will. This pack is like what massive brands like Prada and Gucci think grunge is.
After watching this it's very apparent that Sims needs to start hiring 40 YEAR OLDS to create these packs. This looks like a 20 year old "influencer" going through her Mom's Seventeen magazine was trying to create this pack. There's not even any platform shoes or trench coats!! Where's the chain wallets?? The new eyebrow swatch of the pencil thin look? All they had to do was watch a few Gwen Stefani music videos.

As a millennial, I like this pack cause its actually clothing I wear. The fact it's called grunge makes me laugh cause I would never describe myself as grunge or emo. If anything its reminiscent of Sims urbz skater clothes for me. This is skater clothes of the early 2000s for me with baggy shirts and chunky skater shoes and clothes pin accessories lol. I love the book kit too BTW. But that's because I love reading in real life and I like the neutral tones and versitility of the objects.

The fishnet is fine, for males too BUT this mesh was definitely made for female sims and just doesn't look good on males. EA takes female meshes, puts them in a male category without adjusting the shape and call it a day. They do it all the time and that's the main problem.

He didn’t say fishnets aren’t masculine he said this specific fit does not work for the male sim and he is right. It looks like the sims was squeezed in it and it looks weird on the torso length too. I even googled it and the ones that came up look good on men. This looks like a sim just accidentally bought a shit 3 sizes too small lol. The neck also looks terrible . I’ve had shirts too small for my neck and it feels like you are being choked.

They have a layered chain necklace in this kit and that’s basically the only thing I really love the look of. Shame you would have to buy a whole kit just for that Edit: I got the kit and actually like it. Some of the clothes are definitely on the frumpy side though 🙈
I grabbed this kit alarmingly fast after seeing Satch review it. My whole life seems to be built around the grunge aesthetic and I own similar looking fits from all those outfits practically
FIRST : I am very disappointed. I don't have the werewolves pack but this seems like it could have been in there, not fair for the people who bought it (but sadly usual). I thought it would be so much more grungy (even if it looks really nice, but not grungy enough imo) SECOND : of course gender neutral clothes are nice ! it's nice to have clothes "fitted" to both frames, so you can fit whatever you want ! but THIRD : wtf that doesn't exclude having to make clothes for one whole frame, it's really discriminatory for me. It's already difficult to do a nice looking guy sim but ea is not helping ): agree with you Satch, however I would not take away the fact that clothes are fitted for both frames. But they are indeed content with ignoring a whole ass half of the sims population. it makes me sad. rant over
I agree! I really think that all the clothes in the sims4 should be "gender netraul" because truly anyone can wear anything. I personally went to school with many men who love to wesr traditionally women coded clothing, and I personally like a lot of traditional mens clothing. I think that a good goal for the sims team would be to make every piece of clothing fit each type of frame. However I don't think that should be an excuse to skimp out on items or "inflate" a pack. The item has the same pattern for goodness sake, it's not like its a completely original item, you're just adjusting it to fit a certain body type in a more complimentary way. The same way my boyfriend could wear a tshirt and it would look a certain way on him, and I could wear it and it would look a certain way on me, However it is Still just ONE shirt. I think creating specific gendered clothing is totally okayand valid, but I think it should just be an assumed thing that the clothing fit's each sims frame properly. It's a life simulation game, and it's the reality for a lot of people.
Male sims are always an after thought, even the menswear kit made menswear an after thought. lol Sadly a lot of menswear in the sims is poorly fitted to their bodies. Other games nail the female and male frames making them look sexy even in a trash bag because the fit is so nice. But EA almost never does it for male sims and tend to hit and miss on females.

Yeah the male cloths look like an afterthought. I google grunge male cloths cc and I found more interesting stuff. They could have included some sleeveless tank top, a jacket with patches, pants with chain, oversized hoodie with thumb hole... The kit is not bad but could be better with more unique pieces.
You completely missed the serious 90s Dad sunglasses but it's OK. The boxers I've found to fit well with shorts or pants that hang low as they peak out from underneath. It's honestly really nice we have that now & they aren't just attached to the pants itself. I also enjoy having more baggy clothes especially for female Sims as most of the pieces we have are super form fitting which is fine but I wore tons of baggy clothes, double layers shirts, etc. throughout middle & high school. The high-tops (where you called them Vans) with all the writing on it really sent me back where I would just draw & write all over every pair of my Converses.
I thought they were going back to the days of the Seattle Grunge era and KB and Nirvana (which seems like they did a halfway decent job via Werewolves).

Definitely not American grunge. Three of my sisters, a cousin and al of their friends had a sort of emo-grunge (depending on the month) thing going on when they were teens. They did not wear this.

Gen Z grunge core is a perfect description. These should’ve been included in another pack. A few nice items but most of the masculine items shouldn’t be under the masculine filter.
If they wanted grunge inspiration they should have just watched the movie Singles. Having lived during that time, that is the quintessential example of the era. (Helps its set in Seattle which is my neck of the woods).
Yeah im with you, when we first heard clothes would be able to be worn by both male and female sims it was supposed to be cool that you can erase the barrier but the barrier implies there would be assets for male sims and for female sims seperately, i like my male sims wearing more gender neutral clothing a lot but that doesnt mean we dont need stereotypically masculine clothes too
I keep up with Sims through your channel even though I stopped playing, though my wedding stories was the last dlc I ever bought I feel like EA has really gone downhill, even if I was still a sim shopaholic I wouldn't have bought several of these latest dlcs

grew up in Seattle from 87' to 95' some of this could be considered grunge. But we really did not where a lot of that. Jean Jackets and Flannels were a big thing. Doc Martins. Baby doll dresses, etc. lol that net sweater on the dude reminded me of Lenny Kravits Lmao!

I never use any of the oversized sweaters etc, they change the shape and size of the sims in a weird way that doesn't happen with real clothes, it's a fit issue that they see to copy and paste to every new baggy item.
I probably would of bought this when I only was playing on console but now I have a pc it just feels unnecessary when I can find like cc of exactly what I want and looks better

Also, we get so few unwoke simmers we love you for it, you coud easily just shut up and virtue signal, you do not need to at all, most people are not woke.
The nails aren't chipped, it's a glitch with all the nails clipping in the fingers that the Sims Team just hasn't fixed. I noticed it a few weeks ago with the basic nails we got when the nails update first came out...
I have a dad in my household play and even I struggle and get annoyed at those god damn dad shorts/jeans. I would disagree and say quite a lot of this looks grunge. The pinafore dress with. T shirt unde4 was something I wore a lot during that era with leggings under and checked shirt. Also guys stuff at the time did include a lot of those knee length shorts. Eddie Vedder was particularly fond of them. Also men like Kurt Cobain were wearing ‘feminine looking clothes. The oversized jacket thing is hideous though. You’re spot on with that assessment.
I have the exact same problem you do with the lack of masculine clothing options and I would argue that EA failing to include proper masculine clothing makes the game gynocentric, and thus not woke. If anyone has a good source for where to get Maxis Match male CC, come find me because I'm dying to know!

Cc does a good job of showcasing how oversized clothing should look even if someone is very small in size. The back of the hoodies should not be lifted like that, it should just lay down.
I was in my late teens during the grunge era and this is just a whisper of that. Like you said, it’s idealized from people who were babies during the era. This isn’t gatekeeping and obviously it’s not their fault they weren’t of the time, but I wish they would do heavier research to up the authenticity. They could have watched music videos and enjoyed themselves without having to smell the real grunge kids. 😂
The trouble is grungecore is an aesthetic, but grunge was not an aesthetic. It happened naturally.
Yep, it was stuff gathered from thrift stores and scruffy old things from the back of the closet.
It became imitated by fashion when it got popular though, shops started selling clothes like it to profit from what was trending .

I live the golden age of grunge (yes, i'm that old) and it doesn't look grunge for me, it's too clean (werewolves pack stuff is more grungy) It also lacks of chequered shirt (yes, i know 😂) the shoes are nice but not relevant for a true grunge style (i think about dr martens or big van's). The troussers also must have been way more baggy and the belt different (like rather with a long key/wallet chain) . Yes that's some "grungycore" look for gen Z, and that's ok in a way, but that's not true grunge. I'm also ok with the male "crochet pullover" (i absolutely don't know how it's called in english) it's a feminime frame, and i'm some king of weird woke NB person who wears that kind of stuff : this does not look good on a male frame

After watching this it's very apparent that Sims needs to start hiring 40 YEAR OLDS to create these packs. This looks like a 20 year old "influencer" going through her Mom's Seventeen magazine was trying to create this pack. There's not even any platform shoes or trench coats!! Where's the chain wallets?? The new eyebrow swatch of the pencil thin look? All they had to do was watch a few Gwen Stefani music videos.

As a millennial, I like this pack cause its actually clothing I wear. The fact it's called grunge makes me laugh cause I would never describe myself as grunge or emo. If anything its reminiscent of Sims urbz skater clothes for me. This is skater clothes of the early 2000s for me with baggy shirts and chunky skater shoes and clothes pin accessories lol. I love the book kit too BTW. But that's because I love reading in real life and I like the neutral tones and versitility of the objects.
The fishnet shirt can absolutely be a men's shirt. Look up goth and even punk menswear from the 70s, 80s and 90s and you'll find fishnet!

The fishnet is fine, for males too BUT this mesh was definitely made for female sims and just doesn't look good on males. EA takes female meshes, puts them in a male category without adjusting the shape and call it a day. They do it all the time and that's the main problem.

He didn’t say fishnets aren’t masculine he said this specific fit does not work for the male sim and he is right. It looks like the sims was squeezed in it and it looks weird on the torso length too. I even googled it and the ones that came up look good on men. This looks like a sim just accidentally bought a shit 3 sizes too small lol. The neck also looks terrible . I’ve had shirts too small for my neck and it feels like you are being choked.

FIRST : I am very disappointed. I don't have the werewolves pack but this seems like it could have been in there, not fair for the people who bought it (but sadly usual). I thought it would be so much more grungy (even if it looks really nice, but not grungy enough imo) SECOND : of course gender neutral clothes are nice ! it's nice to have clothes "fitted" to both frames, so you can fit whatever you want ! but THIRD : wtf that doesn't exclude having to make clothes for one whole frame, it's really discriminatory for me. It's already difficult to do a nice looking guy sim but ea is not helping ): agree with you Satch, however I would not take away the fact that clothes are fitted for both frames. But they are indeed content with ignoring a whole ass half of the sims population. it makes me sad. rant over
I agree! I really think that all the clothes in the sims4 should be "gender netraul" because truly anyone can wear anything. I personally went to school with many men who love to wesr traditionally women coded clothing, and I personally like a lot of traditional mens clothing. I think that a good goal for the sims team would be to make every piece of clothing fit each type of frame. However I don't think that should be an excuse to skimp out on items or "inflate" a pack. The item has the same pattern for goodness sake, it's not like its a completely original item, you're just adjusting it to fit a certain body type in a more complimentary way. The same way my boyfriend could wear a tshirt and it would look a certain way on him, and I could wear it and it would look a certain way on me, However it is Still just ONE shirt. I think creating specific gendered clothing is totally okayand valid, but I think it should just be an assumed thing that the clothing fit's each sims frame properly. It's a life simulation game, and it's the reality for a lot of people.

Male sims are always an after thought, even the menswear kit made menswear an after thought. lol Sadly a lot of menswear in the sims is poorly fitted to their bodies. Other games nail the female and male frames making them look sexy even in a trash bag because the fit is so nice. But EA almost never does it for male sims and tend to hit and miss on females.
I read this as “garage kit.” I was getting excited for like lawn mowers, cars and other stuff you might have a garage 🤣🤣🤣 man my disappointment

Yeah the male cloths look like an afterthought. I google grunge male cloths cc and I found more interesting stuff. They could have included some sleeveless tank top, a jacket with patches, pants with chain, oversized hoodie with thumb hole... The kit is not bad but could be better with more unique pieces.

You completely missed the serious 90s Dad sunglasses but it's OK. The boxers I've found to fit well with shorts or pants that hang low as they peak out from underneath. It's honestly really nice we have that now & they aren't just attached to the pants itself. I also enjoy having more baggy clothes especially for female Sims as most of the pieces we have are super form fitting which is fine but I wore tons of baggy clothes, double layers shirts, etc. throughout middle & high school. The high-tops (where you called them Vans) with all the writing on it really sent me back where I would just draw & write all over every pair of my Converses.

well made but these are def not real grunge style unless that's American style grunge unlike the UK, werewolves pack, high school years and thrift store outfits over hang, they should put these in them instead of making a kit about it. I am sure the Goth kit will be re-vamp of base game goth and toned down vampire pack thing. Netted top on the male frame gives more of an Emo vibe really. Always love your honest reviews Satch ,
Definitely not American grunge. Three of my sisters, a cousin and al of their friends had a sort of emo-grunge (depending on the month) thing going on when they were teens. They did not wear this.

Yeah im with you, when we first heard clothes would be able to be worn by both male and female sims it was supposed to be cool that you can erase the barrier but the barrier implies there would be assets for male sims and for female sims seperately, i like my male sims wearing more gender neutral clothing a lot but that doesnt mean we dont need stereotypically masculine clothes too

While this is literally how I've dressed since I was 14, I agree, it is NOT grungy enough at all. They shoulda gone all in on early 2000s emo/punk/screamo/scene looks. And it's no way near enough content.

grew up in Seattle from 87' to 95' some of this could be considered grunge. But we really did not where a lot of that. Jean Jackets and Flannels were a big thing. Doc Martins. Baby doll dresses, etc. lol that net sweater on the dude reminded me of Lenny Kravits Lmao!

I never use any of the oversized sweaters etc, they change the shape and size of the sims in a weird way that doesn't happen with real clothes, it's a fit issue that they see to copy and paste to every new baggy item.

I agree with the cynical view that all of these gender neutral clothes is just to cheat up the number of items on the game! I can’t get behind to any of the CAS kits, specially when CC exists. Also, we get so few unwoke simmers we love you for it, you coud easily just shut up and virtue signal, you do not need to at all, most people are not woke.
The nails aren't chipped, it's a glitch with all the nails clipping in the fingers that the Sims Team just hasn't fixed. I noticed it a few weeks ago with the basic nails we got when the nails update first came out...

i really like the gender neutral style clothing and i know that grunge fashion does touch on the gender neutral side at times so i think its an interesting take one it :(
I would disagree and say quite a lot of this looks grunge. The pinafore dress with. T shirt unde4 was something I wore a lot during that era with leggings under and checked shirt. Also guys stuff at the time did include a lot of those knee length shorts. Eddie Vedder was particularly fond of them. Also men like Kurt Cobain were wearing ‘feminine looking clothes. The oversized jacket thing is hideous though. You’re spot on with that assessment.
I have the exact same problem you do with the lack of masculine clothing options and I would argue that EA failing to include proper masculine clothing makes the game gynocentric, and thus not woke. If anyone has a good source for where to get Maxis Match male CC, come find me because I'm dying to know!
