basically, she just detached the choker from the dress.
Lauren William Hands down, the most honest comment here. “Transformation” is too strong a word to describe the changes that the dress underwent.
Jan Bunag If you want to see a realy transformation look at coolirpa
rhouziel fadil yeah she's a good if not the best on youtube
right??
Jack Robertson 11111
I would suggest taking a photo of the dress and experimenting with color transitions in Photoshop before applying it to the actual dress. Great Transformation!
that's a brilliant idea!
I suggest doing test samples by taking fabric from the seam, to see if the fabric will even absorb dye. Some fabric are treated and do not dye well.
It doesn't make anybody else sad that someone would just give their wedding dress to a thrift store?? 🙁 maybe I'm just too sentimental but I feel like I'd like to keep it whether the marriage worked or not.
Even if you had a spouse who beat you or something equally as awful? My mother got rid of both of hers, the first because my father was a loser, and the second because her second husband was an abusive narcissist. In cases like that, it makes sense to me why people wouldn't want to keep it.
it also could just be a case where a grandma died and they had to get rid of it. and in that case its nicer to give it to a thrift store than just throwing it in the trash :/
from love to hate there's only one step. You never know when you will ending up hating someone
Natalie Mack my grandad threw my nanas wedding dress out, as in dumped it, because she died, so I guess it depends on the person, i would've preferred if it went to thrift but oh well
I was painting my basement walls, found my wedding dress in a box while doing that, used it as a drop cloth to protect my cement floor...I felt nothing, it was just old cloth
i think it's beautiful when it's all white but I'm a traditionalist
Agreed. I feel like if you will dye it into different color it would look cheap
i agree- white for a wedding- but i think she was thinking of wearing it for something else. I doubt she would be getting her wedding dress form a 2nd hand store- considering how crafty she is - i think she would be making her own wedding dress and using this for p.m. outings!!!!!
I love the dress all white, I vote no dye lol cheers Donna
Why not - why does it have to be new - when my sister got married she bought a wedding dress that was a store sample - she lucked out that the dress fit with no alterations needed - only had to have it dry cleaned - it certainly did not qualify as a "new" dress (who knows how many people tried it on) - only paid 20 bucks for it - her veil cost her $100.00 - and she was a beautiful bride - she kept her dress and veil for many years (after the wedding had it cleaned again and professionally boxed and sealed) and then one day she put it out in a yard sale and sold it in 10 minutes to another young lady who was getting married - have often wondered how many more times the dress and veil were passed on and worn by other blushing brides
Winter Addams actually wedding dresses were also a thing in ancient Rome/Greece. It would be a special tunic that was bright orange, which the bride would wear
Love the sleeves, it gives the dress a "Princess" type look...
David Campbell yes it's like I'm watching a diney movie!
only problem with dying it is the fact that the lace probably wouldn't take it
I think that would make it look far prettier- the lace wouldn't take so would stand out far better as it would be on a colour gradient
Actually, I just dyed some wedding dresses to remake them into 18th century dresses for a play. The fabric was synthetic. The lace took the dye very well and the fabric did not. I had to make a total of five dresses and this was the case for all of them.
rachaelinda it's probably late but try ''rit dye more" they're for synthetic fabrics
The dress is amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't die it !!! Save the dress for your wedding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sherry Cozad dye*
Yes but dyeing WILL kill the wedding dress! Don't die it live it! I mean leave it the way it is!
This comment was one hell of a wild ride.
Dye it... (to color it) ... not Die it... (kill)
@@everlynevins No its a nice dress now. Why should everyone use fortunes on dresses????
The dress looks more '70s than 80s style. Lovely!
The wedding gown is more like from the 1970's. My cousin wore something very similar to this back in 1975 for her wedding.
There is nothing wrong with making a stopper with needle and thread but if the zipper is made out of plastic you could have just very carefully melted the top tip of the zipper. But if you are not certain about steady hands then the needle and thread is the safest route.
I'm sure you know this but make sure the dress is made of natural fibers and not synthetic before dyeing the dress. Synthetic fibers are hard to dye. So many 70's cloths were made with polyester being that is was all the rage back in those days. Everybody wore polyester, it was such a huge fad. LOL!
The new romantic look you created is lovely. :)
Rit made a synthetic dye. Granted they don't have as many colors available but they work great. Recently dyed a 95% polyester corset from white to a golden yellow and the color looks incredible

The dress looks more like late 60s -70s rather than 80s
Nope. Late 70s early 80's. My sister was married in '79. That looks a lot like hers.
No, this is definitely 80's. Typical of the period.
My brother got married in 88. My sister in law's dress was similar, though a bit dated by then. I'd put it 1980-83.
To me it looks like a combination - the roomy sleeves and ruffle around the hemline remind me of the late 70's, but the design of the bodice is early 80's. I got married in the early 80's, and this dress is typical of a lot of dresses around at that time, in Australia anyway. I personally like what she's done with this - very creative 😊
I would say late 70's early 80's. The veil looks 70's to me.
I love the dress as is. .. it looks beautiful
Don't dye it!
I think it looked better before :) because when you removed that part from the neck those sleeves looks a little bit off. :) maybe it would look better without sleeves at all.
Bri Gita definitely better without the sleeves!
Vanessa Gutierrez yeah i would have taken sleeves off too i think be cute
Bri Gita I would have just altered the top and sleeves to fit more slimming. I think that would have altered the dress perfectly
@@victoriaveillon5206 the problem isn't the sleeves the dress is too big at the top it's designed to be snug and it is not snug enough
Karin Kiltz yes if EVERYTHING fit better, the top part and sleeves it would look better. But hey she still did a good job
I would shorten the dress and then fix it to fit me. That dress is way too wedding-y for me.
it was a beautiful dress before; but you reallly transformed it into something even more breath taking. love this❣️
I love what you did with this dress! It looks much more classic and elegant now than the pouffy 80's style. This style is very similar to my mother's wedding dress and I've always wondered what I could de with it to modernize it for when I get married.
I think taking off the sleeves but leaving the lace of the top of it on would make it look so pretty
Id take off sleeves and choker
I think the choker is perfect (and you can always take it off, it's not a part of the dress anymore :D ) but I agree with the sleeves. They might look good, but not on this dress.
I like the choker I just meant if it were my wedding dress I think it's a bit much hehe ;-)
or cut the sleeves short and let them loose kind of like flutter sleeves
The synthetic will not take dye well. I would try a tea or coffee dye and make it antique-y looking
Adele Clarkson the sleaves are beautiful.
V L the sleeves would be nice in a medieval style, sort of bell shaped
That dress is so beautiful I'm shook
very cool! I would have cut the choker in half so it would be thinner and have a lighter look!
love it in white or black
Love it in black!!
Get rid of the sleeves and bottom ruffle!
I was thinking the same thing.
The puffy sleeves can give it an old fashioned look though, but the low collar stops it looking too old fashioned for a modern photoshoot. It depends on the kind of pictures she's going for.
Absolutely agree!
it's beautiful, if you cinch the waist in a bit, maybe do a corset with ribbon in the back or front so it could be as big or small as you want. otherwise it's gorgeous.
i think the sleeves would be perfect if it was shorter.
Such a small and easy change but it made a huge different in the look of it! Beautiful dress! But I agree with everyone else about not dyeing it!
don't dye it!!!
/only/ $25? damn what thrift stores are you going to
More 70s than 80s I would have thought
Wow. I just love craftsy people! That just a few small changes transformed a dated - looking dress into something up to date & beautiful.
Photographer turned seamstress... I love it. You have a beautiful mind.
Silver/grey ombré effect would be my choice. Darker greys to lighter greys, silvery on the lace or a pearlised grey. Choices!!
What an absolutely wonderful remake.
either leave it as is or black-its just so beautiful you don't want to take away from the fantastic top! You are amazing!!!!!
It would look so pretty in different pastel watercolors that fade into each other! Like hints of mint and baby pink and light blue/lavender
katinalafa that sounds so pretty
Maybe just for the bottom part of the dress though, I think the top is nice in white
carmen rosewood yes, white is best.
I think it turned out lovely. The ombré idea sounds original. You are so creative. Keep it up!
What a lovely dress you created! Amazing!
I am a bit confused about this. You removed the fabric and added the pretty bauble to the lace choker, but you didn't alter the dress to fit you properly, so why did you make any changes at all? Or is this a work in progress and you will continue to alter it until you have a wearable dress? Also, I love an off the shoulder neck end for this dress, but it will need more than to be just pushed down because again without altering the fit, it just looks too big and like it is slipping off. I think you should remove the sleeves, turn it into a portrait neckline, and change the skirt to be slightly less full with a side slit, or perhaps shorten the skirt and keep it full. I like the white, but the lace would be gorgeous in purple or red, or even black. If this is a work in progress, I would love to see it finished. This is my first video of yours, so I'm sorry if I seem critical. You did explain things well this would be helpful for someone making a similar change to an older dress, so maybe I just missed the point, but I expected more of a transformation into something more different, right now it is still a wedding dress that is too big for you, just with the choker detached, but it isn't something different or wearable yet. 🤔
The dress is not for her to wear but rather for her models
MommyOfZoeAndLiam WOW....BLABBLABALABBLABAABLAB
You could use the veil as a headband or so. It would look a little chypsy, but I like it. Since it is tulle it would look really light
Oh Irene, you've done such an amazing, creative job on my exact/identical 41 yr. old (1975) wedding dress! I only had 2 weeks at that time to get a dress and hand make a veil, but being a lovely size zero then ;..."I grabbed it on sale: off the rack". A tear in my eye, but a smile in my heart, thank you for the memories through your talent. Keep up the great work
Wait, that's your dress? And here I was about to comment 'wouldn't it be amazing if the original owner of the dress watched this video?' Then again you could be lying, (it is the internet after all), but I'm going to take your words as the truth purely because that would be so cool!
Milly Blarg They didn't say it was their dress. Read again. They said it was identical to it.
Oh, my bad. I guess that's what happens when you have a fever, and instead of taking a nap to rest your mind and body you just watch a million CZcams videos XD
Great shots on all your shoots. THANKYOU!!!!! Vince
Looks a lot better. Beautiful
I love how it looks off the shoulder!!!
Love the veil and the dress. I love vintage things.
it would look more beautiful on you if it was fitted or tailored to your size and also would look amazing if you did cut the sleeves of but leave the lace from the shoulders for colour please leave it Ivory.
That dress was beautiful, I wouldn't have touched it! I love 70s wedding dresses!!!
It looks so beautiful and 80's yet in a very beautiful way, not old at all. I love it.
Don't dye it though!
Rae yeah, I don't think she should dye it either. I love how simple and white it is. I think dying it would make it look less elegant.
I love how Irene, (Peace:) ), altered the dress. It reminds me of the gown I wore to my 10 yr reunion. Mine was sleeveless and was black with tiny silver sequence stars sprinkled all over it. When I walk in the room, everyone thought I was the entertainment! She successfully repurposed an old dress with new life.
The dress is perfect as is - don't dye it!
Oh girl! How much I would give for a wedding dress like this, not to be processed. But nowhere in Poland I can find it. You did it nicely after all.
Oh my gosh!! The transformation looks like Sarah's ball dress in Labyrinth!!
I personally would have just kept the dress the same but fitted it better if white took black dye better, however what you did with it was ultra gorgeous. Perfect for photoshoots and such.
True, the original is amazing, sweet, elegant, lovely and modest.
She transformed it into a mainstream dress.....if she wanted something like that she could buy it instead of transforming that beautiful dress.
This dress is stunning!
I don't trust myself to do it (I do sew some) but I have a size 5 dress that I need resized for me at a size 0 xp for my wedding. idk how much it'll be.
The cost of alterations is going to depend on the dress.
Where the seams are, beading, boning, type of material...etc etc etc.
Wedding dress vary so much there isn't a fix cost.
You should shop around. Don't go with the first seamstress you find...unless they come highly recommended by someone you trust.
Good luck! Hope you all the best.
Maybe I'm old fashion but i like how it was original better. It has that very classy look you find in a wedding fashion magazine. All those old fashion (60's and 70's) are making a comeback now. Any who, good find on the dress.
No dye!! It’s beautiful!!
Way too excited for this YAY!!! I know it’ll be good because your whole wardrobe is my goals 😍😭 also you look so fresh and GLOWING!! 💕
Love it! I remember going through fashion school and constantly ripping up old dresses. Better for the environment, and wayyyyyy better for my wallet!
You have made a big improvement in this dress! Next, I would consider taking off the sleeves as well, unless it's a cold time of year.
That is such a beautiful improvement. Very nice.
i think the skirt need a little puffer, it will look better that way...that what i think so yea...
I like that you're showing a mostly lost art
I love that you took the choker and clear netting from the dress, it looks so much better now. I personally would not dye the dress, but that is my opinion.. kinda old fashioned that way... lol
You go girl! Thanks for sharing. Super job and I'm proud of you!
i think without the sleeves it would be even more beautiful
as far as it being a thrift store find I think makes it fun because u can make it yours alot cheaper then going to a sales shop or tailor!
Nice. I like it much better now. Thanks for the idea. Daughter needs a dress but cant find anything she likes for our budget.
If she took the sleeves off that is would be timeless!
absolutley beautiful transformation! love the personalization and 90s style and hints. dont die it thouhh... it would be too much... great job!!
that is a really pretty dress
this was really cool and a great way to give that old wedding dress a new life!
That dress dates back to the 70's
This was the first video i ever saw from you and i just watched a few of your other videos and i had no idea you were from Calgary and you're vegan! I honestly love that. Its so nice to see youtubers from calgary.
Dress is prefect as it was. Damn crazy woman
Am I the only one who liked it the way it was before?
1. get it fitted
2. take the lace medallion from the part you cut off and place center front of dress.
3. the headpiece is called a Juliette cap. remove it and add a comb.
You did a fantastic job.
You are so creative! I really love your videos, you're such a inspiration for me
I Do, Love the change!
Omg nice work on seeing potential in something honestly if I saw that I would think it's ugly but the after pic is like my dream dress good job👏🏻👏🏻😍
Lovely dress. the style looks 60's not 80's
yup. all that daisy chain trim is definitely 60s!
no. Late 70's, early '80's.
essentially kim 60s im fashion buff who comes from a long line of antiquity dealers, who also sale vintage clothing, who also wears vintage
Well, I was a teen in the 80's. That dress is almost exactly like my sister's wedding dress, and she was married in '79. Pretty sure this is late 70's, early 80's. The high, sheer, neck, puffy sleeves, and ruffle on the bottom are that era.
Sorry. I hope I didn't come across as bitchy. I was up all night. I'm kind of cranky and direct right now.
I think that you are an awesome photographer. You're so awesome!
The dress is pretty but i think it would look even better if you took the sleeves off of the dress....leaving them on it still leaves the dress looking old and dated as well as the choker it dates the dress....the bottom of the dress is still old and dated as well that ruffle on the bottom should be removed and a new fresh lace attached or maybe even use tha applique on the skirt in some way on the bottom .....the off the shoulder look with this dress is beautiful
Hi Irene!
You are right the dress is much more gorgeous now!
Leave it like it is!
Oh, you gave me an idea! I am going to do that on my wedding dress! And I will play the Halloween with it! :D Thank you for the inspiration!
kisses from Portugal!
I love the Vintage dress and it looks like you have used it in a few shoots. Beautiful and feminine, just like your style.
I think the dress would look great with the skirt even more voluminous. Like in Beauty and the Beast.
I loved the collar tbh.
I would kill to get Married in that dress!! W/out the sleeves of course but everything else is perfect it's actually my dream dress lol
This is a bit like my dress from 1978, mine had the same neckline but the sleeves were different, butterfly/batwing sleeves from the elbow, they were so pretty. My Mum loaned it to her friends daughter, I never got it back! I got married to someone else in 1991 and made my own dress, which I'm now going to cut up and make cushion covers for my bed......at least it gets used!!
Instead of dyeing the dress add some crystals and ribbon seaming to freshen it up. The choker is cute but a more eye catching pendent. This dress could be amazing .
YOU LOOK STUNNING
dude your eyes are my actual favorite! So pretty, lucky
I love the dress but am not crazy about the puffy sleeves! I love the choker!
i think it looks beautiful without the sleeves
Dye it, a yellow ombre would keep it romantic, and match the daisy trim.
I love the dress and high collar. The vail was kind of pretty too. You have to be creative when ur on a budget. And I love the fact when ppl are amazed when they fine out your creativity
That's a mid-70s gown- the slightly raised waistline and the shape of the bodice gives it away. Sleeves, too. I got married in '83, this dress looks like the dress my cousin wore in '75.
I would take the sleeves off too. That would look super modern.
champagne would be a nice colour 😊
Amazing job! What a difference you've made! Lovely dress! 💒💒
It's a 70's style not 80's
