  • I restored this very early A1 a few years ago. This was only my second project after getting back into bikes. I bought it because I'd always wanted one when they came out but couldn't afford it. Of course, I now regret selling it!

Hi. I now own this beauty. Bort it last year of a nice guy in Northampton. It doesn’t go out much. But runs very well when it does. Have you any info on the build you did. Any engine work etc. you
Made a cracking job. Keeping it nice & original. Not many about especially this colour
    Regards
    Jamie

Glad the bike is still running well! It was actually me you bought the bike from 😀. It had been the subject of an earlier restoration (full engine rebuild) but needed tidying up and finishing off. Quite a few of the fasteners needed re-zincing I remember. I think I did fork seals, antidive, rebuilt the carbs and synced them. Fitted a new OEM water pump, new tyres, head race bearings. I may have rebuilt the callipers on that one as well, can't quite remember now. I've still not seen one that early on in as good overall condition.

Sorry Steve. Thought it was original owners post. I just couldn’t remember the history of the bike exactly. It runs great so know it’s been well sorted. I’m going to the Manx on it in aug. Prob do an oil change before. What would you recommend
      Regards

Look for a decent SE or SF grade 10W40 motorcycle oil. Workshop manual suggestions 4L but you won't need that much, more like 3 or 3 and a half litres. Remember there are TWO drain plugs! Check the manual for details. I'd change the oil filter at the same time. You can get it all from the GPZZone: gpzzone.com/gpz-900r/gpz-900r-servicing/
      Enjoy the Manx!

Vintage screamer. My return to the saddle after 30 years off came in the guise of an '83 GS750E. It's a tank compared to today's stuff but still a legal blast to ride. Keeping this one?

Already sold it. Its an absolute missile. 150mph and 80's brakes make for an interesting ride!
