House Crow-Mystery of Vanishing Eggs-Part II

  • This is the second part of "Mystery of Vanishing Eggs - Nest n Eggs Part II" of House Crow I. Why I say this because, recently, during February 2010, another pair of House Crow, we call them, 'House Crow II' had built their another nest on another branch of the same mango tree in our backyard. And we have been monitoring the events very closely till date. Since the nest is inaccessible, day to day events are being monitored using a remote camera.

    Thanks for appreciating my video. We also feel very bad about the disturbances our dogs created for the chick. what to do, When we were working on our terrace our dogs got excited looking at our activities and reacted by barking. But now for covering House Crow II events, they are used to and they remain calm.

    The nestling is actually an alien/parasite in the crow's nest. It is a baby cuckoo (Indian Koel), the cuckoo usually lays its eggs in other bird's nest (crows nest in this case). The cuckoo's nestling hatches earlier than the host's eggs and therefore, is able to push the other eggs so it can have undivided attention of the host. It will grow at a rapid rate as it is fed by the pair of crows, once it grows up, it will continue the tradition of being a parasite attacking another nest.
    Poor hosts end up feeding a parasite that was responsible for the death of its own chicks, nature can be ruthless at times. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

      I'm pretty sure this may have been a conversation, and the other party deleted her/his statements at some point in the past 3 years. I probably wouldn't have fact-checked myself just for the heck of it unless counter-arguments were presented to make me look something up. I mean, I even said "thanks for correcting me" in the next reply, which would imply he/she said something in response to my first comment.
      Guess I'll just delete my comments then if I'm the only party remaining.
      Thanks for the heads up.

    @anusha17606 Btw, after 22 day of hatching, the Asian Koel nestlings had been moving around on the branches near to their nest. And on 28th day, the female nestling almost fledged away. and from next day onwards, the male nestling used to spent the day/ night? on the mango tree only and the parent House Crows have seen protecting him all along. Amazing!

    So....how does those eggs taste like?

  • @flame2782
    @flame2782 Před 8 lety +13

    Yeah.... I think what happened is that another bird had layed their egg in the unknown birds nest and the UNWANTED birds objective is to push the Host birds eggs out of the nest so that the host bird would raise and only care for the parasite bird so maybe if you looked hard enough around the tree you would see egg shells/egg yolk there. so the house crow is the Parasite bird and the host bird is unknown for now.....

    that might be a cuckoo chick. the cuckoo (koyal) is known to lay its egg in crows nest. watch this video. it might explain. Common Cuckoo chick ejects eggs of Reed Warbler out of the nest.David Attenborough's opinion

    • @stevenlauj725
      @stevenlauj725 Před 10 lety +1

      it's a crow chick not a cuckoo lol......baby cuckoo doesn't lay eggs on a crows nest or have eggs the size like a crows eggs..cuckoo's has small head, slender beck and yellow mouth lining not red i hope u know that!!

    • @stevenlauj725
      @stevenlauj725 Před 9 lety +1

      HeyMan1231 its' not a black cuckoo in this clip...i breed and raised birds...MOST IMPORTANTLY(look at the beck n it's mouth lining compared to the one u post)..the host parent warbler is the size of a human toe at most...cuckoo has to disquise the egg to look n the right shape or the parent will toss the eggs..u think a cuckoo can replicate a crow egg n size??? u see black only,but no details my friend....cuckoo only pray on warbler ,finches,and small birds most......for most,cuckoo chick can't live on dead rotting flesh.....my explanation for the missing egg is, probably like pigeon where they some how can tell if the eggs is fertile or not...the infertile egg is then push off the nest so the fertile eggs can get the warmth it needs.......but this is my observation n opinion from when i saw my roller does....
