It was frustrating and terrifying. Watching this episode nearly 3 years on, it was so eerie watching how real this scene was. The nightmare of not being able to understand what's happening, what to say or having any control on what's going on. Our Dad is our best friend, so a very different relationship than the show, but even still a universal experience of this nightmare moment was presented so well in this episode. 02:03 He says "anti-Shakespearean death". I get what he means, but curiously almost all major deaths in Shakespeare happen off-stage and are simply announced to the audience and characters. So it's actually very Shakespearean, as is the whole show.

    • @omoddulus4933
      @omoddulus4933 Před 10 měsíci +1

      That's not what he means by shakespearean. He means it happens in a way where they're trying to get the most emotion out of you even if it's at the expense of it not seeming very believable. And so he's talking about the believability of it.
      He's direction isn't really to be emotional but rather to just act how you would if this was actually happening. And the dialogue they say is almost like they don't know what to say, they aren't thinking clearly and nothing they say is very meaningful or meant to be meaningful.

  • @aquamarine99911

    Tom's actually talking through the phone - it isn't just piped in later. Then they'd have to have to sync it up to Roman's great reactions, which would have introduced an element of fakery to the scene. Genius.
    I learned that my father had died via telephone call. The shock, denial and even bargaining is all there. Genius.

    I will always be thankful for Succession and for Jesse, the cast, crew but on top of all for Mylod. He is really the director for Jesse and Succession. You can tell when he is directing. All the directors in the show are great but Mark actually makes you feel tension and anxiety and the feelings of the person in camera
