Listen up as Sierra Ferrell treats us to two songs from her 2021 album ‘Long Time Coming,’ in the press box above DelFest. The cozy 8’x12’ space above the Allegany County Fairgrounds sits just across the Potomac River from Sierra’s native West Virginia, and provides a bird's-eye view of the festival grounds and a fuller picture of the DelFest experience, the perfect location to host her No Depression Session.
She starts with “Bells of Every Chapel,” featuring Sierra’s inimitable voice supported by background vocals from fiddler Oliver Bates Craven and mandolinist Joshua Rilko. Geoffrey Saunders’ upright bass lines keep us right in the groove. Try listening to this performance on headphones or a decent set of speakers, Geoffrey’s rich bass thumps will tickle your ear holes the right way.
Sierra rounds out the session with the saga of that dirty ol’ dog “Jeremiah.” If he could only see how good of a woman he has right in front of him, maybe he’d stop running around town. Or maybe not. In any case, Jeremiah’s recklessness inspires this lovely tune which Sierra and company finish JUST as the press box heats up into sauna range. Always impressed with Sierra’s voice. She has one of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time. She’s great on instruments and surrounds herself with gifted musicians too. 👍👍🇨🇦
Hard to believe she didn’t like her own voice. It’s so traditional and unique at the same time. Kelly Clarkson covered Jeremiah on her show. Amazing as well. Sierra is def in the drivers seat. I hope she has great support in her life. ☮️

I went to a Ray LaMontaigne show and was flabergasted at how much talking the (young hipster) crowd was doing during his performance. At one point he stopped playing and said something along the lines of "Please be quiet. I'm trying to perform up here". True story.
@@MarkAtherton-bf4pq I'll take you one step further... At that Billy Strings show i mentioned, the band literally stopped playing in a middle of a song because a FIGHT broke out near the front. I mean WTF? Fighting at a bluegrass show? SMH....

She keeps on growing, the inflections and interpretation on this pair of songs is new to me and sounded marvelous. She's phenomenal.
It's the room, it let's you hear yourself because the walls are so close and the sound reflects back to your ears with no delay .... It's hard to do that in a large room full of people and up on a stage ... Too much ambient noise and the walls are so far away you don't get that kind of feedback you need for the more subtle inflections

@@longjohn526 True, and she even mentions it. I'm sure the intimate sound evokes a certain mood and sound dynamic that they don't get to experience very often. I can't imagine hear her voice in that close of a setting. She's just, just...I don't know, I'm running out of adjectives, metaphors, and analogies at this point.
