1947 Job Rated Dodge Trucks -- From the Factory to YOU!

  • From Something Weird Video Lifestyle USA Vol 15 www.somethingw... What is Job Rating? (b&w) is a 26-minute sales pitch for Dodge in which a custom-designed Dodge truck is double-talked into being called "a job-rated vehicle." While most of this is the usual blah-blah-blah, it gets downright fetishistic when it travels through the bowels of an assembly line and lovingly gazes over factory parts - ooooh, look... engines... chassis... clutches - all scored to Ravel’s "Bolero!" One can easily imagine Dodge executives getting uncomfortably aroused by all this....

      1946? If indeed this was made in 1947, then it would have been the '48 model year they were pitching.

    I'm so glad I'm a Dodge truck owner. I'm on my 3rd classic now. A 68 D300 with a slant 6. It has a Dana 70 with 488 gears, top speed about 50 mph. it's so cool!

      @Andrew Sully I'd like to know too. I suspect its more related to brake capacity than the motor

    An enjoyable presentation, certainly better than most I have seen. In 1980 I paid $50 for a 47 dodge 2-ton flat bed. Pulled it out of a black berry patch and restored it to good working order. The wiring and brakes were the big issues. The engine and running gear were fine.

    The government, EPA, and most of all the pension fund/investors that threaten the company monthly set all the requirements now, not the customer.

    Back then they actually care about making a good product. Dodge, Ford and GM worked day and night to create something better than the other. Now, all they want is to suck the most money out of their customers with stupid, cheap, chinese gimmicks.

    So what would happen six months later the company started hauling something with different load requirements, would he have to get another new truck?

    • @highwatercircutrider
      @highwatercircutrider Před 2 lety +2

      Yup, and they were cheap enough back then that he could afford to change truck models as needed !

    • @WSNO
      @WSNO Před rokem +2

      Back then things didn't change so quickly. While the trucks were cheap enough comparatively to modern ones that a company could afford to buy new ones often, there wasn't much need to. If the company was hauling chicken feed to farms in rural Nebraska, they'd be doing just that for decades and making good money doing it.

    It is the they don't build like they used to. I got a used TV in 2008 that was over 10 years old and it still works. I see people buy flat screen TV and in a year or two it is in the garbage. I have a clock radio from 1969 and I still using it today.
