- After several months on the River Thames it is finally time to return to the canals and onto the Kennet & Avon. Our first steps onto the new waters involve a surreal cruise through the middle of a shopping centre, but our celebrations are short lived after a scary encounter with an infamous lock 😰

We're rewatching this because we've just started on the Kennet and Avon, this'll be a really useful video. We've moored outside the cunning man pub just 2 hours ago! Your next episode will be breakfast viewing. Hope youre good!
Your a lovely couple and so very very brave doing what you do love watching
Thank you so much! 😊 glad you enjoy!
O wow they don't make it easy on the canals how scary well done you xx
Hiya troops, well done navigating, you are doing great. Maybe you drill a hole through the door and fit an M5 screw and nut to create a clamp for the glass. I'm trying to build a baby log burner from an old gas bottle and welding bake bean tins to make a chimney lol. :) Keep up good work and cruise with style and a smile savvy xx
Awwww so sorry for your stress you sure looked devastated really feel for you hope over it now back on safer waters tc the oldies peace love and joy for the Xmas season xx☃️❄️🌟🎄
That lock with the weir was frightening. When you finally got into it, it looked like all the children in the canoes were getting sucked into it. Hope you are able to get the stove door fixed soon. Back onto the canals, so hopefully things will be better! 😊🤗 Kathy
How traumatic was that! Well done for coping. Safe on the canals now. 😀
Hi You have made the right move by getting off the River and onto the Canal, I worked on the River and have seen what it can do when it is in Flood ;I have seen the towpath with 3 ft and more FLOODED, you cannot get ashore. you cannot move because of the stream , you run out of Food, Water , Diesel ,cannot empty toilets , worry about if the boat floats onto the Tow path ,Worry about your mooring ropes , etc. Well Done.
I love you two 🤗 I'm moving to a widebeam in January. It will be moored, not travelled in, but I had no clue about them at all. Watching you guys has been an eye-opener, in a good way, I'm so excited about it all. Sending the 4 of you my love and best wishes xxx 🤗
we are in the same boat no pun intended our boiler has just given up the ghost :)
Great content guys.So pleased your back on the canal.i hope you can get a new door soon.have a lovely week.see you soon.much love.
Welcome home. Back on the canals after some stressful moments. well done guys.
That weir looked scary. The traffic lights were different. Enjoy the KA x
YEP! - Welcome to Reading - AKA: 'The Narrowboat Graveyard' 💀☠💀..... Nearly - But not Quite 😂😂
Wow that lock with the weir well done looked really scary... I'm the same as you guys prefer the canals glad you explored the Thames... I've always wanted to cruise to the k and a looks peacefull another great video guys xx
County Lock is very tricky. Seen many boats do the 180° flip. You stayed really calm. Glad the Irish guy helped you out. 👍to him. You'll love the K&A. Happy days. 😊
This is my first time commentìng, im not a boater but i just luv your channel guys keeep up the good work xx
Thanks so much!! We really appreciate it and glad you are enjoying! ☺️❤️
Having watched many boating channels I've noticed you all have a varied style but yet obviously free living type of clothing and a real love of adventure
You should do a boat fashion blog.🙂
Very traumatic.... But you made it! Well done... Keep positive you two, you can do it! X
Thank you!!😊
Welcome back to the canal. Perhaps I won't go on rivers? 🐰Xx
Well done guys . Looks like a pain in the bum that stove .We used one for years . I was glad to see the back of it .We moved into the city and have a gas furnace ,. can you guys get propane heat on the boat .guess that costs more .
Omg what a stressful day!! I'd be s*****g myself!! Big hugs you did amazing! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Well done on Reading lock…..nerve wracking x
wow that flow was strong glad you got thru ok cya next vlog
Hi Amy, Wes, Wow leaving the Thames was stressful enough as there was no signs saying you were in the right bit of water. Then that Lock and weir, but my goodness you coped so well and stayed in control as much as that water flow would allow. Well done for getting past the Weir. The pub looked really nice. Thank you for a great Vlog. Good to see Rufus, hello to Dupes. Great storytelling and most of all great editing. A really enjoyable watch. Thank you. Take care.
interesting vlog guys,
Way more stress than I could take!😜 lovely vlog you four❤❤❤❤
That Reading stretch going the other way to Henley was my first narrowboat experience helping crew 3 years ago…but I won’t be moving onto one anytime soon, not a good survey…obviously not the boat for me! 😌
Lock was scarry.. but ur nails are on fire!!! Seriously they look great! U guys handled it really well. So glad u r back on the Canals..
I cross the fingers u guys get the door sorted soon .. no doubt Winter is coming 🥶
Question.. what card game do u guys play in the pubs? Never seen it, so I figure I ask :)
Enjoy ur WE!!!
I think we were all scared for you guys and the boat when you tried out Weir Spinning… alls well that ends well.. whew💜
Terrifying lock!! 😱 Well done you guys, you handled it SO WELL! Hopefully that nice evening in the pub helped calm and relax you x
I know just how you feel leaving the river for the relative peace of the canals. After the stressful lock of course where you coped so well 👏🏼👏🏼. I moor if the Nene and cannot wait in the Spring to reach Gayton Junction and breath a huge fight of relief after the uncertainties of the River Nene: beautiful as it is. For me, the canals have are my happy place with great history. Thanks you for yet another really great vlog❤️❤️❤️
You poor dears how stressful it must have been.well done.glad you got to go to a and destress for a while. Enjoy the rivers🌺🌺🌺
Firelighter tea ! Must be a first .You can always drill out the bolts on the door and re -tap the threads .lts got to be cheaper than buying a new door ?Looking forward to this pioneering cruise 👍
Hi Tony I was just thinking that I am sure if they took the door to a boat yard they could do a repair.
Another great fun and interesting vlog guys, and so well edited and put together.
Omg , you two are so brave ❤ I was panicking watching you negotiating the weir xx Thank goodness you’re ok.
Omg imagine being single handed on that lock. How frightening was that. Wow. But great vlog. You will no doubt be going thru Woolhampton (?) - did that in a day boat. Good luck. Lol. Seriously. Lovely natural vlogs. Best wishes.
More Scar music would be great
Hi Amy & Wes. We bought our boat back in July 2016 from a couple who had it moored at the Thames and Kennet Marina which is just opposite the turn into the K&A. It took us 3 weeks to get it back to Peterborough where we live, so it's been great reliving the reverse journey with you down the Oxford canal and the Thames. But now you're on new waters! Looking forward to seeing how you get on traveling down the K&A :) I must admit, I did wonder about your "fix" on the glass/door when you did it. A new door should sort you out for a good few years :)
Know what you mean about missing the canals, I was like that on the Trent earlier in the year
Can’t you find somewhere to get the door repaired….there must be some one who could get the old bolts out for you…..I thought you did well with the lock….could you imagine doing that last year….just shows how you guys are learning
Aw I'm sorry about the door :( Hope yall get it fixed up in a jiff.
You don't need to buy a new door for the fire, you cab drill out the old bolts that are broken, drill all the way through and use nuts and bolts with washers to hold the glass, cost about £2 for nuts and bolts, abs save for some decent drill bits, new and sharp, drill carefully and slowly using an oil for cooling and cutting, trashes about an hour!!!!
Simple
Ello
I think 1:03 is going to be me in a few years time! But you did deal with the weir really well. Sometimes you can't steer where you want to go and the boat goes elsewhere but you definitely were still in control because you could get out of the situation. 😊
Can I ask what the remote work is? Curious to know how you fund travels. Great vlog guys.
