      God forbid!!! It's not the horse's fault. Whoever trained him should have payed attention to his temperament. If the horse passed all of his training and made it to the guard. There also a lot of reasons a horse rears or in this instance bucks the rider off and none of them are the horse's fault. Bit pinching the inside of his mouth because the rider is pulling the reins too tight. Ill fitting saddle. I didn't notice if they were wearing spurs. Some rider's dig their spurs too hard into the poor horse's sides. The camera would have had to focus specifically on that horse and rider to be able to offer an intelligent argument as to the why. Etc etc etc @@solmoman

      @@grasshopper1451 I thought spurs were banned as cruel and open to abuse, years ago. It was said that a horse is capable of responding to pressure of rider's legs, or eventually even vocal command. As also with bits, all the horses are tossing their heads in this vid continually, and with one of them it just got too much to bear, poor thing. I do hope it gets rewarded for all its previous service and not punished for one apparent 'misdemeanour'.

    I’m not sure of the reason but there has been a lot of head tossing and pulling on the bits by numerous guard horses lately. . It can’t be blamed entirely on poor horsemanship so my guess is either a rush to complete the horses training or the bridles that so many show discomfort or dislike for. After riding and raising horses for the past 40 yrs I’m aware that every single horse has its own unique personality and quirks and accident and falls happen even to the best riders. It could be my imagination but the horses as a group seemed to be more relaxed during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral than they do now.

    • @rayneinphyre1981
      @rayneinphyre1981 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Under most circumstances you find a bit that works well for the horse. Some do great bitless, some go great in a basic snaffle, some need something a bit harsher. They uniformly use the same harsh bits on all horses and keep contact on the reins so it’s putting pressure in their mouths. Easily explains the head tossing. It doesn’t look like excitement for the work.

Imagine what would happen during a wartime battle if the horses were not trained to ignore the noise and mayhem that is taking place around them and not trusting their riders. They are definitely not trained to the standard that is required of cavalry stock.

Having come off my own bombproof mare on a road because some idiot let go of their dog’s lead and she was under attack, I know just how hard that landing is. A bit like the soldier I got up and even though an ambulance had been called, adrenaline kicked in because my horse had bolted down the road for home and I was concerned for her safety. I have questions ❓ Why are most of these horse's throwing their head's up and down like that. As a rider myself, I'm aware of the possible reasons. I'm just not familiar with the reasons for horse's specifically trained for royal service.
    Unfortunately, the camera angles don't represent horse or rider prior to being thrown. I'm glad the rider was able to get right back up. I hope the horse isn't going to be in trouble. Some horse's just don't have the temperament for whatever their intended use and it's up to the human to realize that and allow the horse to be of use in a way that fits both owner and horse's needs.

    Hard to believe the amount of head-tossing by these horses. They are unhappy, frustrated, and tense. I’ve been riding my whole life and have always enjoyed watching the King’s mounted regiments, but it seems there are some underlying issues that need to be addressed. I realize tradition is very important, but it’s time to reevaluate how much junk these horses and riders have to wear. Lose the double bridles. Take a look at the DPRK’s (of all countries!) mounted regiments in the big parades they have: The horses have the bare minimum tack, the riders wear simple, straightforward uniforms. The horses have plenty of personal space: at least 4 feet to either side and 8 feet or more front to back. The horses are happy, quiet and all at the same gait.

      Thank goodness you said this. I've watched a few of these vids, and couldn't agree more. Time for updating UK ceremonial procedures involving horses, these traditions so outworn and old. Animal welfare so important these days. Sometimes footage is just downright disturbing, like those horses who threw their riders and ran for their lives through the streets of London just a few weeks ago. And we never really found out how they were afterwards. Who is going to make the changes - Charles? Time to lobby the King I reckon.

    He handled that unexpected dismount with grace. I really hope he is alright. Our of curiousity, how often do these particular horses and riders go on tour like that? Some of them seems surprisingly anxious, then again, perhaps there was something up that day. I am perhaps unfairly comparing them to the RCMP and Toronto Police Service horses I see much more frequently, but they spend a lot of time in crowds and around people. The TPS Horses are actually great ambassadors and much beloved in Toronto.
