- Drive By Truckers - Goddamn Lonely Love Lyrics
I got green and I got blues
and everyday there's a little less difference between the two.
So I belly-up and disappear.
Well I ain't really drowning 'cause I see the beach from here.
I could take a Greyhound home but when I got there it'd be gone
along with everything a home is made up of.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.
Sister, listen to what your daddy says.
Don't be ashamed of things that hide behind your dress.
Belly-up and arch your back.
Well I ain't really falling asleep; I'm fading to black.
You could come to me by plane, but that wouldn't be the same
as that old motel room in Texarkana was.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.
Stop me if you've heard this one before:
A man walks into a bar and leaves before his ashes hit the floor.
Stop me if I ever get that far.
The sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before.
And I could find another dream,
one that keeps me warm and clean
but I ain't dreamin' anymore, I'm waking up.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take everything you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.

Seen these guys at the saloon at bamajam '08 Enterprise Alabama. My mom gave me her over 21 wrist band I was 17 and God damned if this wasn't the band playing in there. I had 6 or 7 Jim Beam doubles and stumbled out. RIP mom and thanks for 19 years of having the greatest mom on earth Cindy Green! God bless the Drive By Truckers!
God bless your mother, but the singer of this this song was not in the band when they came to bamajam
@@brennanclifton5458
Bless you, man. That's such a cool story and I think i'm gonna remember it for a while. I hope you have a wonderful day and that you make the most of it.
Beautiful story!! RIP Cindy, sounds like you made an incredible human being to take your place.
@Operator Snubbing No, sorry I am not the JH you seek.
godspeed our Cindy Green! She was and always will be one of us, Respect.
Sometimes I listen to this song just because I feel like being sad. Goddamn Emotional masterpiece
Fuck8ng right me to something about the sad songs makes the drinks go down better lol
Probably one of the best songs ever written, in my opinion. Hits me to the core every single time. Jason is a master songwriter.
He really is, he is of my biggest influencers as far as being a song writer, him staplleton and chris Cornell are my top three song writers of all time.
The little tracker where you can see who views the most of a particular song proves it. Everyone listens all the way! "Certified hood classic" lol
He was a wee lad when he was in The Truckers if my memory serves me right ? 🤔🤘🏻🖤🤤
"And I could find another dream,
one that keeps me warm and clean.
But I ain't dreaming anymore.
I'm waking up." 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
great line! probably my favorite in the song
Yeah I've got a new dream which defo keeps me warm and clean now thank God.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Quite possibly the most beautiful song ever written. The melody sticks like flypaper..
I hardly drink or like most country music or twang and I have never been to a "country state" .. however I hate the Left so I have some credentials. I never heard of "melody sticks like flypaper" because it's too cold up here, I guess. But this is one great haunting song! It "sticks to me like the glue we sniff" up north. Nah, just kidding around. Good luck.
These guys don’t hate the left. They’re pretty outspokenly liberal.
I try so hard not to listen to this one. It is incredibly beautiful but it gets me in the heart every. single. time. Many a drunken night spent listening to this one driving down old country roads.
This song makes me fall apart. Every time. Damn it, Jason!
this song is medicine.
i honestly think jason isbell has kept me from offing myself.
fucking beautiful, beautiful song.
Jason is awesome. He is the modern day Bob Dylan. Such feeling and emotion. No other musician moves me like him.
what about elephant.holy shit
Might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard. And I'm in my 60's. If you really know what it means, I'm truly sorry, I know what it means, too. But things get better in time.
thats two bad.
1,000% ; one of the best (few) perks of being on the wrong side of 50 is that you can finally truly appreciate you have lived, loved, lost and sur-fucking-vived long enough to truly enjoy beautiful song/music. With more memories/lessons of heartache instead of the blow-your-brains-out pain. Life/Love keeps on getting much more simple and hurts much more less If You Live Long Enough💟
I know these comments are old. But I appreciate you guys out there that are older and wiser than us younguns. If I didn't get a good figurative smack of wisdom and an "it can't be all bad" from you guys who've lived it my life woulda been over long ago.
Another Isbell song.
Everybody please cry with me for the utter loneliness and beauty of his voice
Wow... Not many tracks make my eyes fill up with tears, but this never fails.
This recording here is a masterpiece. Simply beautiful.
This song makes me yearn for ‘home’ and goddamn if he’s not right, home isn’t home anymore.
Don't dig this song? You've never had your heart torn out.... Meanwhile, I'll take two of what you're havin'
Joe Neil absolutely
Amen
Couldnt have said it better myself
And I'll take all of what you got!!!
Same here brother. Speaking the truth.
Been listening to these guys for about ten years and this album still remains at the top of the list.
When you have felt such a beautiful disaster...There will never be "the same".
I urge everyone to continue trying though
havent cried in years... good to know i still have a soul, so beautiful song
Tears are rolling; missing my Love! Been together almost 18 years and going through something real stupid. I think he's found someone else on on of these messed up web sites! I just the Lord will have a word of prayer with him.! My heart feels like its gonna burst! I'd ten of what they'd give me and whatever to numb me from feeling this hurt!
@@pamelareneedula-trivette999 I'm sorry. It was 13 years for me. It sucked hard for a while but I'm so much more in love now than I ever thought possible.
I'm sure you'll prevail either way
Feeling that shit
I feel that man
A beautiful work of art . Have I said that about this song before ? I will NEVER get tired of saying it .
This is a great song on a jukebox in a dank, dark bar when you feel depressed as hell and three sheets to the wind.
I used to like sweeping the floor after a bar shift to this
This song runs through my life.... Beautiful. One of the best country songs ever
Stay beautiful...
I discovered this song 2 days ago and Jesus christ it speaks to my 27 year old heart thank you drive by truckers
Lyrics so real. This song is... perfect.
I Can not for the life of me listen just once to this song.
I've been a DBT fan since 2002, when a really plugged-in friend of mine suggested I might like them. Boy was he right. I'm not surprised DBT haven't ever hit the big time, though. They're way too real.
Its cause they dont have fireworks shooting out of their tits.
it hits me so hard, the loss of someone. This takes me back to that moment every single time
Song was just on end of the show "Billions" on Showtime! Great song!
That's how I came across these guys as well.. How the hell had I not heard of them before??
me too
Billions also brought me here. What a goddamn song!
This song was written and sung by former DBT member Jason Isbell who was fired from the band for his excessive drug and alcohol use. He’s since sobered up and has a solo career. One of the best song writers there is. He’s who you should be checking out.
Jason isbell is the fkn man
ryan schmit the Lineup with Shonna Tucker and Jason Isbell was the best lineup DBT ever had!!
Decoration Day was a BRILLIANT album!
The fucking best
I laid this song on a little crowd of friends and family in 2008. I saw right away it was touching my daughter. She was living a stones throw from the beach. She could see it,from pretty much anywhere she went. She was starting to drown. And I had no clue. Had no idea about the pills. Greens? Blues? Still don't know what oxycintin looks like. Or Xanax. Or any of the rest of the whole fuckeree.
I don't even know if Jason Isbell was talking about different colored pills when he sang about them. But it sounded heartbreaking and sincere.
After the line,"I ain't really drowning, cuz I see the beach from here." My daughter started crying. She said it was just such a sad and beautiful song.
It only took about another year for her problem to become obvious. And when it did,I remembered this song hitting her. And ever since then,it has been so much more than just a cool sad song,to me.
Hope your daughter is better. Don’t give up on her man. It’s a hell of a thing to make it through all alone.
@@rottenrobb2583 my folks gave up on me when I was in that place. Good thing I was too stubborn to let the drugs completely destroy me; but they came awfully close. The folks and I are good now though.
This song is amazing I wake up hearing it every now and again, great band!
What a sad but beautiful song...a lot of Jason's songs are like that, the guy is brilliant
he is the sensitive one. it is goddamn beautiful
been listening to DBT since Decoration Day came out, and i never tire of hearing these guys, hell i got this song set as my ringtone. This right here is soul music.
Seriously, does it get any better than this. Sublime, evocative and wonderful.
truly
One of the best albums ever.. Call me crazy
You are not crazy, sir.
You're crazy
just insightful
No crazy in you.
The Isbell-Tucker years of DBT were their finest hour, in my opinion..
Between this album and “Decoration Day”, it’s hard to say which one is more brilliant...
Greatest underrated band with or without isbell
well, i’m back again. i’m “only 13” but i love this song so much. i love listening to this song at 1 am loudly with headphones :)
Too close to home to be just a song....
The best country music out there! Never hear it on the radio or any format!
check out jason isbell's solo stuff, its all amazing
its southern rock daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
check out there album southern rock opera
This song gives me goosebumps every time! Belly up and arch your back... ❤️😘😍
that's my favorite line too👍... love Jason Isbel!
What a line...and he has them in no short supply.
Yes. Many zingers in this song. That is definitely one of em.
Gosh! This is on the very short list of my most all time favorite songs. Its a distinguished list.
Fuk! i cant belive it took me this long to find these guys. Speechless. Amazing
jason pressley Same here, I would highly recommend checking out Jason Isbell these days. As a metalhead, i find both of these groups amazing just because of the sheer work ethic and passion alone.
mtdewramen yeah' these guys floor me.
mtdewramen check out the supersuckers if you haven't already
jason pressley, right there with you. Found these guys few years ago, favorite band in the world. Seen them live a few times, blew me away..... Lookout Mountain in concert is why I go see live music.
jason pressley Amazing live
this song almost makes me too emotional...but I love it so much
It takes the last song on the whole album to convince you that it was worth listening to. The best thing that ever happened to this band and they let him get away.
the sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before
what does this line mean?
Ma Sss No matter how much fame or success you achieve, you're eventually going to burn out like everyone else.
I am a Metal guy not a Country guy. This song is mesmerizing. Love it!
If I ever wrote a song this effing beautiful, I'd retire. I'd never write another song again cuz it'd never be as good. like Kurt Cobain telling his manager that he wouldn't go back out to perform an encore at Unplugged, after he sang "Where did you sleep last night". "I'm not going back out there... I can't do any better than that." I never really got into Isbell's other band, but I noticed awhile back that alot of the DBT songs I love were written by him. Truly, truly talented.
I love Isbell!
This is, like, THE perfect song. Pretty much 99% of all other songs should bow down to this one and shut up and listen. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful melody... such heartache. Gah, so perfect!!
I like the Drive By Truckers just fine, but, man, Jason Isbell is a singular talent when it comes to songwriting.
One of my favourite bands currently making music today.. Thank you gents for reawakened my love in music again.. I too miss Mr. Danko & Mr. Manuel.. Cheers!!!!
DBT is the best goddam rock band in the world
Jeff Beck is more ferocious than ever
Gotta be that guy bros, this is Alternative Country. You can call some of their music Southern Rock, but not "rock". That would be bands like Kiss and Rush.
This era of the Truckers was magic. I'm glad I was there.
DaMangs Kiss and Rush are more Dad Glam than rock😂
Daniel Rommel ....Umphreys McGee is ROCK...this is southern alternative haha
These guys brought me to tyler childers. Fan for years
Tyler Childers is awesome too!
Isbell is a legend
THE legend
Billions brought me here
Me too, and I'm glad it did!
Same lol
Same lol
Me too
Season 2 episode 7
Thank you "Billions" to bring me here! Nice song!
Well i aint really fallin' asleep im fading to black'♪
+Rubi sandoval
that line is what brought me here tonight
BuckyDent45ACP its my favorite line from the song, its dark but beautiful. can be interpreted in many different ways. i love it
+Rubi sandoval this song reminds me of Sandoval Illinois
+Nookerdog777 this song reminds me of a Mexican I worked with in a tire factory named nerf sandivol.
Sam Herson haha nice. I'm actually a truck driver and i had a girlfriend in Sandoval Illinois at the time i first heard this and that relationship was truly a "goddamn lonely love" because I was always far away out on the road,
gets me every time. I need some weed to go with this.
Billions on showtime brought me here, great tune
Been 3 hours since I turned 18.
I'm in quarantine. In another city. Not feeling exactly well. Well. It is what it is I suppose.
Hey man, congrats on making it to 18😄. Idk if you'll see this, or if I'll get notified of you replying. But, hang in there. I'll be 21 in August. But most think im 26-30s.
Idk anything about you. But hopefully things are well, and I hope you enjoy your last few teen years!
Not gonna tell you how much life is gonna suck. Or love. You already know that to a degree.
These guys are great. Soulful and raw.
Spread the good word about this band !
DBT are/were a decent band....Isbell is what made them great. He has his own gig now, with the 400 Unit band. Like him better on his own, clean, sober and still the best damned singer-songwriter I've ever seen/heard/followed.
Man...there ain't no more greyhounds going home.
Socialist shithole canaduh...
Ain't a whole lot of homes
The three greatest bands EVER !!!!
LED ZEPPELIN
LYNYRD SKYNYRD
DRIVE BY TRUCKERS
goddamn this song never gets old...
Missing my love and love him so much he is miles away from me and I'm blue without him
Incredible songwriter. Been going through and keeping this song on repeat.
In sorry y'all if you disagree but the best line in this song if I take a greyhound home line. I have literally happens in my life before no joke. It brings tears to me
My friend just recommended this band to me didn’t tell me a song. This is the first one I found, and within the first second the sound of the guitar and the tones and atmosphere made me fall in love instantly upon further listening they are great lyricists
THIS is the first one? Hell. You are in for one hell of a ride.
this song is gorgeous, it really speaks its story
You need to hear Tyler childers sing this too
If you’ve watched Tyler’s version, you know deep down it’s better then the original.
Tyler’s soul is just as bare, neither version is better than the other. They’re both amazing
Hunter Warner I love Tyler, but I couldn’t disagree more.
@@hunterwarner393
I love Tyler, but no. The best version of this is on the Live From Alabama Jason Isbell album.
@@jessespencer7333 I’ll definitely have to give that album a listen.
This is my favorite Neil Young song.
NOPE. You are 100% Wrong.
This is OBVIOUSLY more like Mick Taylor-Era Rolling Stones, especially Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street.
This is most evident from 2:48 till the end of the song.
Throughout, you can hear elements of Dead Flowers, except at a Slower Pace.
This is a song so many people can relate to Goddam Lonely Love !
6:22 in the morning. Never heard any DBT songs until now ❤good morning
Best drive by truckers song eve, Best Isbell song ever. Epic and liltingly beautiful, killer lyrics
Breathtakingly beautiful . This one gets me right in the heart . So good it almost hurts .....
It does hurt
We will be at the show in 6 hours here in minneapolis
Up all night... this is such a beautiful song
Fell off the wagon and have been drinking this song up for the last couple of weeks.
Justin Herman hope you found your way home brother. sitting on 7 1/2 years, always praying for that day not to happen.
Justin Herman keep coming back man I'm holding onto the back of the wagon by my fingernails right now.
The wagon is a roller coaster right now brother
I hope you’re doing well
Beast-man Wilkins me too.
Great band, great songs.
Damn... this song gets to me...
Hello Julie how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Drive By Truckers are coming to the UK this summer and I'll be there
..............oh god, it never stops
My all time favorite song by them.
Scratched my head with a .44 magnum and almost drank a 24 pack then this song came on 10 years ago. It saved me, goddamnit
A masterpiece!
Always perfect and just what I wanna hear. ♥
it's more than just a song it's a feeling
This is probably my favourite song.
"Billions" brought me here...and I'm so goddamn glad!

Never heard this band before but after listening to this song they are awesome
Finally getting his flowers Jason is amazing I love these guys
It's as good as any song from the "Golden era".
As a non recovery alcoholic. Just gotta say this is beautiful. Ill take two of what your having? Some people dont need help. Just need closure. Some just have a goddamn lonely love.
billions!!
I've been lifted!
One of Isbell best songs... Top on his career!!
This Band was the 2nd best thing I get to keep.
Many thanks for uploading this! I live in Texarkana and I must say, this hits my soul hard.
Love this song. Reminds me of lady I once knew...
