    Awesome idea... I have a 2015 Keystone Cougar fifth wheel and there are two remote levers for the black and gray tanks. They are cables and I was thinking the cable was sticking. My issue was with the gray water valve, as we usually leave it open and now couldn't close it... I was able to locate the dump gate valves and cut the belly open to access them. I attempted remove the valve itself and after removing the four bolts, the valve couldn't be removed due to the glued joints and secure tanks. I reinstalled the bolts. I was able to remove the cable clamp bracket by removing two philips head bolts and nuts and a finger tight nut and this allowed the removal of the cable bracket from the gate valve body. I then used Norm Burgess's idea of 3/32" drill and lube. It turned out it was the valve and not the cable. I placed a small machine screw in the hole and re assembled everything and it worked excellent. I took the cable bracket off of the black tank valve and did the same mod and secured everything. Closing up the belly with black gorilla tape. Thank you for this info. The most difficult thing was dealing with the under belly, once it was open and I could see it was just disassemble, drill, lubricate and reassemble. Thanks again.

    I was in the RV industry-we would spray the knife valve inside the poop tube pretty generously with lube and spray the handle rod/shaft. Work the handle back and forth til it’s Lucy goosey. I do like your hack. Cheers

    Thank you for your recommendation. I did exactly what you said and the two valves for the black and gray water that were stuck work like new. Thanks for the advice.

    if you use a quarter cup of vegtable oil when you drop the tank your problem will disappear. this is especially helpful for people that cant get to the black tank valve. been rving for 5 years fulltime and this works. good luck

    • @jimsjacob
      @jimsjacob Před rokem +1

      I’ve gotta try this because I have three valves buried up in the chassis and I’d have to drop the underbelly liner to get to them. Hope this works because 2 of the 3 gates are so hard to actuate.

    • @dianapearson1771

      @@rps714 Yeah. I didn't understand that either. Putting oil in your black tank----- won't that defeat your purposes of trying to get that tank clean and keep it clean??? I'm a newbie, so I don't understand a lot!!!😳

    Works I’m sure, however, on my trailer the handle is a remote connection by cable to the actual valve which is inside of the insulated cover on the bottom of the trailer.

  • @howardwatts4238

    Ive heard of that before, i got a new to us rockwood 2016 5th wheel thats hard to open been thinkinf of doing this it has 2 gray tanks and a black both valves are hard like you said. The reat in the back is too far under and you have to pull it from the back of the trailer causing you to have to get under. Not good at the dump station. Thinking of keeping it pulled then putting a extition on valve and cutoff valve atatch a garden hose to drain.

    Don't you think you just lubricated the sludge buildup that's causing the problem? The sludge buildup will eventually get so bad even lubrication won't work. To solve the problem you need to pull and clean that gate valve or replace it (or, some think liquid additives like dish soap, etc. will eat that sludge away over time). Lubrication is just delaying the inevitable.

      Sounds like you're in deep chlt. Have never had to do it, but here is an idea......I'd use my big wet/dry shop vaccum and see if I could empty (mostly) through the toilet (probably take a few times), then I'd just have to deal with what might remain in tank. Id have a replacement valve on hand and replace it. I know many people can't handle the sewage aspect of it, but I was a plumber and it doesn't bother me. Otherwise, I'd try what is in video first, even though you can't work the handle, spray it every day for several days......then I would pull the rod until it either opened or broke before I would attempt my idea. Good luck.

      There are many concoctions to help lube up valves! I would use 1/2 cup of Dawn dish soap an cup of pinesall and a cup of citric cleaner! Make sure to add 2-3 gallons of water down toilet when drain black tank. I have been doing this for yrs an works great! Also if think have poop stuck or dry in black tank add a bag or 2 of Ice in toilet to help break down poop when take a camper on a ride it sloshes around and breaks up poop. Good Luck!

    • @rvnormburgess
      @rvnormburgess  Před 10 měsíci

      No you have to lub the gate seals with silicone

  • @ch-ir8ld
    @ch-ir8ld Před 2 lety +1

    nah, just dump vegetable oil down the drain... way easier and more effective

    • @rvnormburgess
      @rvnormburgess  Před 5 měsíci

      some other RVer have said that over time the vegetable oil will become sticky and freeze up the valve.
