The criticism of his physical and mental conditioning was completely accurate. Murray didn't prove them wrong, he took the criticism constructively and changed for the better. They said he was being held back by mental and physical issues, and when he developed amazing fitness and mental toughness, he started winning grand slams. If anything, he proved them right. Murray absolutely showed the character of a champion by doing that, but the initial presentation of this video presents Murray's success as due to denial of criticism, when the reality is that his success came from the acceptance of criticism.
    -
idk, I really like that quote "you don't always have to respond with words. That's my way of doing it, with actions". but I think a lot of people will hear that and misinterpret what his response was. The media said "you're too mentally weak and physically unfit to win a slam" and his response wasn't "you're wrong"...his response was "you're right" and then he put in years of hard work to fix those problems and once he did, he won multiple slams.

Djokovic and Murray were the two players of the big 4 who were just mistreated by the media. And when they both hit their primes, they were 1 and 2 the two best players in the world. Unless it was a nadal at FRENCH, FEDAL got smacked around by them on every slam and surface. So sad that Murray got that career ending hip injury, dude could’ve played at his best level until late 30s just like djokovic is doing. Djokovic will have 25+ Murray would’ve had over 10

I actually think he’s more talented than nadal and Djokovic. Nadal was just a freak physically and a beast mentally from day 1 and Murray was neither. As soon as Murray became strong the top 3 were already at the top making it harder to catch up. Their first masters finals were against satin coria canas first slam finals phillipousis Puerta Tsonga. Murray’s was Djokovic and federer and has been the same since. He was always behind which made it harder mentally and they didn’t have the pressure he had at Wimbledon or any other slam from the media.

I look at other talented lightly built players like Medvedev and Zverev and wonder if their fitness teams would be trying to make them stronger? Murray physicality has certainly changed a lot in 15 years but did it really have to happen albeit that he was a very successful player?
