This is my reaction to Hey - Arahja (Woodstock2017)
In this video I react to another live performance from Polish rock music concert Woodstock/Poland Rock. This is Arahja from Hey
#poland #music #reaction
Original Video - • Hey - Arahja #Woodstoc...
This song is a protest against Berlins wall (song recorded in 1988, a year before the fall of the wall). Its metaphoric lyrics were to avoid censorship. The lyrics are about splitting your house, your body, your street into half. How left side of the street is dark / shut down and right one is shining with colourful neons. How left one never wakes up and right one never goes to sleep. And so on. That's why this song is important for polish people and that's why there is so much emotion behind it. Cuz it's fight for a freedom.
dziéki, I didn´t know that, I know Nosowska from the 90´s Hey, but didn´t know this one. Na prawo!
Dzięki, za wytłumaczenie. Nie znałem tego ehh.

I only heard this song for the first time this year when I heard my favourite singer Michał Szpak sing it I'm not polish, I had to the check out the kult version, I looked up the English translation, to be honest I still was confused what it was about but hearing your translation made it more sense to me, so thank you.
who ever I hear singing it they always have such a powerful voice, powerful impact.
She's also crying because ppl know the lyrics and sing along.
You need to know the context of that song.
Written in 1987, sang by Kult,
The song had to somehow avoid censorship.
The song is about the divided society by the Wall- not only by the Berlin Wall- but also by the iron curtain.
That song was literally the experience of the most of the nations closed behind the iron curtain.
That is why this song is so emotional for Kasia Nosowska.
(Well- not only her, but each of us watching it on CZcams I guess)
Also it is strongly related to recent situation in Poland where the society is divided by two, happily after the recent election it all will change. Hopefully…
Also it’s one of the songs, that any rock music fan (and not only) will know the lyrics…
Here is the text of the song - both in Polish and English below:

Cudowna Kasia Nosowska! Utwór ściska serce... tym bardziej, że tekst tak bardzo oddaję dzisiejsze realia. Polska podzielona jak nigdy wcześniej, a to bardzo boli.
The song is timeless. It is about divisions in society. Divisions between left and right. It was applicable ac in socialistic Poland as it is today in the entire world.
Not true.
The song is about the division into free people and those under communism dictatorship.

She cried because of the crowd reaction and because how powerful the song is itself.
No, she cried because it was personal. She got divorced.
Yes, this song is timeless, originally about Berlin wall, but it describes emotions of polarized society and emotions of messy dissolution of marriage with equal power.
Buddy, Poland is blood in its veins, it is heart, it is power and strength. When our youth have fun, they have fun, and when they come to fight, they will fight. Long live my beloved homeland Poland ❤️❤️🇵🇱 Greetings to you, friend
So true. There was too much blood spilled on our soil- we all live with the war trauma of our great grandparents and our grandparents cos it’s passed on to our DNA (it’s called epigenetics).
The passion.
This song comes from the times of the PRL (PRL is an abbreviation of Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa, which translates to Polish People's Republic, the name of Poland under the rule of the USSR in the years 1945-1989). Due to censorship, artists couldn't sing about what they wanted, so they sang about metaphors that everyone understood. The song is literally about a street divided into right and left, about a house divided into right and left, about a body divided into right and left. This song is about the division, then between the world under the Iron Curtain and beyond, and today it can also be easily applied to contemporary divisions. The emotional charge of this song is enormous and the singer's tears may be due to the song as well as the reception and reaction of the audience. It's a chill-inducing song.
👍👍👍
I was there...i cried too...greetings from Poland...❤
The song (cover) was played by the band "Hey". Singer Katarzyna Nosowska was very moved because they suspended their activities in 2017 (Hey had been playing since 1992) and audience reacted very enthusiastically to this cover. The song Arahja was written (1987) and performed by the band "Kult". Talks about divisions in life, society, etc. Originally about the division of Berlin (Germany / Europe) into eastern and western.
Poland rock music is soo emotional because the roots of band like HEY is in '80 - very hard political time. Not only music, vocal but also a lirycs so important. This music will be always in our hearts. And Kasia Nosowska is one of the best singer in Poland ❤🤍
That was a very old Kult's song and the lyrics describe in allegory way times when Europe was divided and Poland came under Russian occupation 1945-1989. Song is about Berlin Wall, because that symbolized this division
The song is about the divisions in Europe - left and right (east and west). In Germany, where Berlin was divided into West Berlin and communist Berlin, the border between them ran across the houses and along the streets. A city divided by a wall that fell - the Iron Curtain in 1989.
My house that a wall divides
The staircase that a wall divides
Bathroom on the left side,
Stove on the right side
My body that a wall divides
Ten fingers on the left side
Another ten on the right side
Head's equal parts On each of the sides
My street that a wall divides
With neon lights shines the right
side Left side lights extinguished
From the curtain I watch both of the sides
Left! side never wakes up
Right! side never falls asleep
Left! side never wakes up
Right! side never falls asleep
I've been there five times. The atmosphere is truly like magic. The song refers to Berlin wall when Germany or even Europe was divided into two pieces. It means that we shouldn't build walls between each other but live peacefully together. Censorship was very severe a that time so the song is one big metaphor.
Bylem tam, przezylem to, spiewalem, serce płakało razem z Kasia. Zaraz będzie ciemno ❤
Zamknij się! 😉😁
You should see the video Hey & Agnieszka Chylińska - Angelene (Unplugged) next so you can watch Chylińska and Nosowska perform together. Absolutely mindblowing!

'Arahja' was written in late 80's by another Polish band Kult. Hey performed phenomenal cover of this song, but here is the original version czcams.com/video/_vw2K0AgFF0/video.html Song itself treats about division between Western and Eastern Berlin.
She's polish treasure, well known and appreciated singer
As far as I remember this song was written when Poland was under ussr rule. The author has been to Berlin and he saw two different sides of the iron curtain. The lyrics of the song refer to house split into two parts. One of them is full of life and the other one is just quiet and sleeping. Just like Berlin during the times of iron curtain. And you can refer this to what we are now. Divided into western and eastern Poland by voting to different parties 😅 but that's my interpretation. 😅
Hey🔥🔥👍👍.. wychowałem się w tych czasach ♥️
My fav songs by Hey is "Moja i Twoja nadzieja", "Sic!" and "Muka", this singer is a sweetheart and can be easily moved by the crowd's engagement so she is indeed not faking it.

Kasia Nosowska - absolutely beautiful voice. Strong and full of emotions.
“Arahja” is a piece about the Berlin Wall, the symbol of the division of Germany. Thanks to the lack of literalness and high metaphorical nature, Kazik managed to avoid censorship, which in 1988 was finally in its last throes. The home the author sings about here is none other than Germany, or even Europe, divided by the Cold War and in conflict with itself.
The singer wants to show us the senselessness of wars and conflicts, reminding us that we are all people and we should tear down walls between ourselves rather than build them. This was best seen in the example of Germany - former friends and even families now stood on both sides of the barricade, feeling still connected to each other, but still distant because of these arbitrary borders.
Staszewski clearly suggests that it is much better to look for a common language than to stand against each other. After all, the whole world is our big home, so why do we keep cutting ourselves off from others, trying to carve out separate places for ourselves, closing ourselves off to otherness?
Been there that day, saw that live
There are no words to properly explain that feeling
I was there. I was surprised how many people choose to see this performance, because "Hey" isn't at the peak of popularity at the moment.
At the time, many people in our country felt like politicians are trying to divide us, because if you make people argue with each other, they are too busy to keep politicians accountable.
This song hit us all hard, I was crying, everyone around me was crying too. When my mom saw this, she cried too.
Totally! ❤
I recommend checking out other songs by Hey and Kasia Nosowska. "Arahja" is not their song. It was originally performed by Kazik Staszewski, an equally important figure in Polish music of the last few decades. The song itself is about division. About the division into the Eastern and Western bloc during the "Cold War", divisions in society, in families, even within ourselves. I recommend checking out Kazik's work, as well as the band Hey and Kasia Nosowska, whose work comes from a more grunge trend and as an example of their work I would recommend some of these songs: "Moja i Twoja Nadzieja", "Teksański", "Dreams", "Mimo wszystko", "List", "Cisza, ja i czas", and "Zazdrość".

The original song is by Kazik Staszewski with band Kult.
funny thing - the festival is free. It is a thank you from a charity organization to all the donors. No attendance fee, nothing, just get there, and have a few days of music, freedom, and acceptance of whichever way of life you've chosen
Kasia Nosowska is the vocalist of the band "Hej". It is one of the most significant bands in Poland, with a very long history. He performs a song by the distinguished band "Kult", which was created in 1982 w and continues to create wonderful things. The "Kult" band has always been a political commentator and still is. You should take a look at their work

It's been called The most beautiful festival in the world, and it stands to it's name. Amazing atmosphere, great people. Each year a band is chosen by the people to perform on the ASP which stands for Akademia Sztuk Przepięknych (Academy of Finer Arts, it's a play on Akademia Sztuk Pięknych - Academy of Fine Arts) which basically is a supporting scene on that festival. There are lectures, yoga classes and many other activities for people. It's great! It's one of the very last big events in Rock/Metal/Alternative music, nowadays everything's about rap & hiphop, but Pol'n'Rock stays strong!
I was at this concert, I screamed all the lyrics and cried like a beaver. this is a song about the fall of communism in our region. I am old enough to remember the times of geopolitical transformation in Poland and the entire region. those were crazy times, beautiful and tragic at the same time (the original performed by "KULT" with Kazik on vocals is even better czcams.com/video/1_ViPYAS9GU/video.html)

The unique story about that concert is just before this song, gates to concert area was closed and ppl pushing on fence and when Kasia started, we opened that gates by force and all that crowd aload a place. I was there in the first lin at gates.

I can see other Poles gave you the historic background. This particular performance was so emotional because Katarzyna Nosowska could feel that we are again in the same place - people were at that time divided, far away from each other and fighting. The political situation in Poland was hopeless.

I was at this concert, and I still get goosebumps all over my body when I see and hear videos of this event.
First of all, I was surprised that the band Hey played the song "Arahja" by Kult.
Secondly, the song is full of emotions. It was written with the division of Europe by the Berlin Wall in mind, but it is still relevant and can be perceived differently. A person may be divided in his apartment and have to repay the loan to the bank for many years. You can be divided by internal worries...

The lyrics in translation sound simple, they're about everything (around you and in you) being divided into halves that oppose each other. But the meaning has so many layers, and that's why this song is so moving and still relevant. It can be about the Berlin wall, but it can also be about political divisions, that we observe in most countries now, that run deep and seemingly there are no ways of finding common ground. It might be about inner conflicts that most people experience at some point in their lives. And all that is seasoned with some very eastern European soul-ache that's painful and beautiful at the same time. There's just a lot to this song.

This piece was written at a time when communism reigned in Poland. The creator and actual performer is Kult - a legendary Polish alternative rock band.
This song elicited such emotions because its lyrics are still relevant to the current political situation in Poland, where the government has divided and polarized society into pro-government and opposition factions (as indicated by the divided map of Poland - there is clear support for the government in the eastern part and for the opposition in the western part). This atmosphere of polarization and, consequently, tension is so pronounced that it's sometimes difficult for neighbors or even family members with different political views to get along. However, after the elections on October 15th, the opposition won, and I hope that the new government will try to bridge these divisions to prevent a Polish-Polish conflict.

In the PRL times rock, especialy punk rock music was not only music but a form of protest.
I was lucky to be at this festival (while still called Przystanek Woodstock) as a photojournalist. And man - when I first found myself on stage - taking photos of the crowd in front of me (around 300,000 people at the time) it was so incredibly hypnotizing and paralyzing - that I didn't take any photos. Only subsequent entrances to the stage were photographically "successful". And I heard the same thing from the musicians performing there - that it was an incredibly powerful event for them and the best part of their career
