    Tough to see some of the details on setting up the lines. I think a few times to set-up and break-down should make it easy enough.
    My X-Cat is ordered (from Red Beard Sailing) and on the way. Looking forward to getting out on water.

    I notice that the mainsail is attached to the mast with loops, rather than a grove. What is thinking there?

    • @redbeardsailing
      @redbeardsailing  Před 4 lety +4

      This allows for a lighter and simpler mast by not requiring a track. It also creates a pocket that generates a lot of lift, similar to hoops on an old wooden mast schooner like the Pride of Baltimore II.

      Yes! I row the XCAT often! I rowed for about 40 miles in the 2018 Everglades Challenge when the wind quit on Lemon Bay in FL.

  • @roberts.wilson1848
    @roberts.wilson1848 Před rokem

    this needs to have less ropes and less complicated winding and wiring and looming and whatnot.
    And it'd be perfect

    • @redbeardsailing
      @redbeardsailing  Před rokem +1

      The XCAT is the easiest to rig beach cat on the market. I can build the whole boat from a pile of parts to sails up in 10 minutes, I can’t imagine it being easier.

      For context, a typical trailered beach cat takes 30-60 minutes to rig and set up.

      @@redbeardsailing I used to do mine in about 5 mins. 30-60?? C'mon!! All you have to do is put the mast up and hoist the mainsail.

    • @mikthe2004
      @mikthe2004 Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I don't want to build my yacht each time I sail it, and then disassemble it afterwards!!

  • @fabmanly1070
    @fabmanly1070 Před 2 lety

    Rubbish! All those flimsy connections, plastic on aluminium and pathetic screw locks won’t last. Nothing but a toy that can only be sailed on a lake in 5kts of wind.

    • @redbeardsailing
      @redbeardsailing  Před 2 lety +6

      I personally sailed in the 2018 Everglades Challenge. We launched into a Small Craft Advisory. When I got to the Gulf of Mexico there were 8’ rolling waves and gusts in the 30 knot range. The rig is built to withstand 65 knot winds.
      I appreciate your feedback, however off base, I definitely encourage you to come test sail one, you’ll find you couldn’t be more wrong.
