  • 17 volunteers from engineering and environmental consultancy Scott Wilson fly to the dry community of Malaika in Kenya to build a sand dam - a simple concrete structure built across the river bed to capture water and seasonal rain.
The sand dam we built will provide water for up to 10,000 people in the local community. Many children will benefit.
The sand dam project was set up by the Scott Wilson Millennium Project, a charity wholly run and supported by the staff at Scott Wilson. The charity is focused on the relief of poverty, hardship and distress among children in developing countries across the world.

I wish more people would watch this - the people in Kenya are thoroughly inspiring, and this solution to a water need is infinitely more sustainable than drilling wells!

This recharges underground water and in a few season dry wells would start having water all over again, definitely the way to go.

Is there no update? You might get extra funding if you proved your efforts worked!

Interesting project, it is more impactful if video after construction would have been incorporated!

Why don't help our village to construct at least 2 sand dams in our main river - Mwitasyano, Machakos, Kenya?

No need help..just collect a bunch of stone and throw in the stream path.

I would like to try this in the poorest Native American Lands (with one water source poisoned by Pipeline spills) and small communities with the most poisonous water sources in the United States> Like Pine Ridge Reservation and Flint Michigan>>>

and the 17 air fares if they were donated would have built another dam people having a jolly on the back of the troubles of others

You raise millions of dollars-pay yourselves high salaries, buy plane tickets for volunteers and spend a pittance on the actual video- whiles taking all the ‘nice’ pictures and then say that’s how you change the World 🌍

The promo video helps raise awareness and raise more money to build the damns and water structures. Yes they pay themselves a healthy salary but that’s their privilege

And yes the 17 engineering consultants from Europe do need to fly there to teach 60 locals how to build the damn. They designed it. They have to oversee its done correctly
