    Like you, I was concerned about belt stretching when changing speeds, so I designated one belt for 33 1/3 only and another for 45. Based on your experience, I guess I didn't need to segregate the belts. After several years, I still love my Orbit!

    I've used mine since 2019, and the only cons i'd say is that it doesn't play 78rpm and the lame belt. But other than that, I'd say it's a superb entry level turn table. I use an Ortofon 2M Blue, and the results are great! 8.5/10 rating for me. I've experienced no issues with it.

    I love the color of that one!
    I’ve had my “plus” for about 2.5 years now and I have a similar opinion. It’s attractive, simple, robust, sounds really great, and is easy on the vinyl.
    But I do dislike the cheapo hinges, permanent plastic headshell and most of all absolutely hate that weak temperamental belt!
    I have to use a couple of pieces of scotch tape on it while changing belts or replacing it if it falls off.
    This video demonstrated pretty well how problematic messing with that belt is.
    A weak link in an otherwise awesome turntable.

    That is a half inch mount. The half inch is the measurement between the the mounting screws.The removable headshell on for example on a technics uses an Sme connector.There are other connectors but that is the most common.

    4:10 All vinyl records are supposed to have a thicker label area to protect the surface of the playing area when the records are stacked on a changer. That's part of the design. It's only slight, but a record that doesn't have that is lacking a standard feature of the LP specifications.

    If they're using a synchronous AC motor off the power line frequency, it can only spin at one speed. The only way to change the turntable speed will be by changing pulleys. The only other option is to use a two speed DC motor (likely to be less accurate), or a synchronous AC motor with a locally generated AC timebase. That is likely to be much more complex and expensive. I believe the theme for this turntable is meant to be simplicity. It works. How frequently do most people switch between 33 and 45? I have lots of 45s, and I don't switch that often.

  • @stevenj2380
    @stevenj2380 Před rokem +1

    That looks like a reasonable choice for entry level. One could have a problem fussing to change the cartridge and align.
    Have other table with acrylic platter and it is similarly flush. The belt also wraps around (being 36 or 36.1 in) platter, but it has more usual rectangular profile. it is on a small brass(?) cog and electronic servo control so a switch changes speed.

      I have been collecting vinyl for almost 4 years now. I have slowly upgraded from crosley, to victrola, and currently an audio-technica. I am thinking of getting a Orbit just to try something new but I love my audio-technica, my sole reason for upgrading is to get a 'prettier' record player! I would definitely say the AT is a good starting point because all you have to do is press start to get it going.

    I’m brand new to vinyl so brand new in fact that i don’t even have a turn table anymore. My wife had a briefcase TT that she had for years. We went to use it one day after a trip to the record store and it just didn’t ever turn on. I’ve been looking at the U-Turn Orbit (unsure of what i should spend) and the Fluance RtT85. I’m not sure which one is best for a beginner who wants to spend enough that he won’t have to replace things and spend more money but also doesn’t want to break the bank because i still need speakers too. This may also be a novice question but does the U-Turn orbit have a volume knob or is that on the speakers? Thank you to whoever answers my questions! I had no idea how overwhelming this can be when you dive into it!

    • @NikoNoxious
      @NikoNoxious Před rokem

      Hi! I am here to help as best I can.
      This and the Fluance get compared a lot. The Orbit is USA made while the Fluance is not and uses Chinese parts. Despite this, for the price you will see people choosing the Fluance for it looks a tad sturdier, has metal hinges I believe, and is similar in design. I would not be so fast to judge, as the fluance has a tendency of motor failure and necessary service.
      For convenience sake you may want to look at the ATLP120 range for more features and build quality from a larger manufacturer.
      Your receiver or amplifier will control volume to the speakers unless you go from your turntable directly into active speakers. For something like that you'd need a pre-amp either built in or in the signal chain between TT and speakers.
      Speaking of Pre-amp, if your receiver doesn't have 'Phono' in, you'll need a preamp anyway before the input in the signal chain.
      hope this helps!

    I like the design of TT the tonearm design is I think looks good high quality but thats where it ends I don't like the hinges the cover is not fixed it can tip over and cause problems and unlike the marley the fabric cover I would say is better no chance of scratching it the hinges would not break and on the hinges for u-turn its plastic it will give out ,on the belt it is a very poor design I've seen many vids and people complaining about belt slipping off why not use a flat belt it can't cost that much and on the headshell why they had to use plastic is beyond me if I had that headshell I would have changed the washers imediately to solve problem use slightly larger washers to keep from gouging the plastic headshell and on cueing lever if a cheap suitcase record player can have one why do you have to pay EXTRA for one that is STUPID ,a lot of people who are new to the record world are not used to handling a tonearm it would be safer to include it I even talked to someone about it they were very pleasant and easy to talk to but their excuse for not having one was not good enough they really did not address it really ,anti skating should not be factory set what if current cart goes bad or even you want to put in a different cart,you can't be sure it will match the setting on turntable there are cheaper tt's that have an adjustable antiskating , I am glad it is made in USA but there are other TT's from other counties that will be cheaper to buy and have a lot more accessories than U-Turn does if they want sales or name of U-turn to be a household name they got start giving m,ore for what you are paying for ,as you can see how things are getting expensive out there ,in my opinion they have to evolve ,there are other TT's made in this country but you have to have a barrel full of money to afford them ,U -turn makes a great TT why not improve on it JRo

The Fluance RT80, 81 and 85 are but I'd not go for them if I was buying a new turntable. I'd go for the Audio Technica ATLP120USB, which is finally available again (yay!). It has a half inch mount. this means that I could mount my Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge and headshell on it. It has adjustable counterweight and anti skate, so a range of cartridges can be fitted on it's half inch mount and it has 78 rpm speed to play my 10 Bing Crosby 78's and my15 Fats Waller 78's. Speed is indeed quite accurate. speed deviations are quite big. Using acrylic or polycarbonate is not the best option imo. I would welcome biodegradable plastic, if any, in these kind of tables. House of Marely, at least, makes an effort to produce sustainable TTs and other stuff. Best things about this TT is the simplicity, the on/off switch ( at least when you do not forget to turn it off, for usually TTs use power, even when not used), and the color. No indent for the label in the platter is really a no go for me.
