I am a resident of Haig Point and I absolutely love it. This video is rather interesting but there are a few errors in it. First of all, there are cars on the island. The only reason that’s important is that cars travel faster than golf carts and while most of us, drive golf carts, we have to be aware that there are heavier, faster, vehicles, sharing our roads. Also, there are paved roads. Not a lot, and not in particularly good shape, but they’re here. Daufuskie is not off the grid. We have high-speed Internet throughout the island. We’ve got electricity. We’ve got a phone system. What we don’t have is a large population. Beaches are not all around the island. many areas are marshland. But generally speaking, the beaches are not heavily peopled. Many days you can walk completely alone on the beaches. You do not have to take a boat to get your groceries. You do have to take a boat to go into a grocery store, however. But all of the services deliver to the departure points for the ferries. That is true not only have Haig Point but of the county ferry. But if you forget, something, one of your neighbors is sure to be going over and can pick it up for you.

If one wants to build a home how does that work logistically in terms of transporting supplies, equipment, etc.?

How hard/how long does it take to get to Savannah GA? Do people some live on the island but commute off the island for work?

Thank you for this video John. I'd love to live on Daufuskie. Convincing my wife we're moving to an island without shopping and restaurants would however take some extraordinarily creative sales tactics.

I heard there's crazy HOA dues there. Like over a grand a month!

I have been to Daufuskie a couple times visiting friends who live in Haig Point. It is a gorgeous community, but to me it's an ideal 2nd home not a primary residence. Just too quiet & remote for me as a full-time home. I had the impression most residents are part-time.

All roads in Haig Point are paved except for the road on the water. Also emergency evacuations are very effective and fast.

Thanks John- do you ever go for a few hours and eat at a local restaurant by boat from mainland? If so, which is your (and your wife’s) favorite?

Thanks Jess! it depends on the lot. some take longer than others, but for the most part they all sell. it’s an insane market.

What other small...very small...towns on the water...south of Hilton Head that you can safely ride bikes and golf carts...where waterfront housing (no condos or HOA fees) might be affordable?
