- The UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo will pause its withdrawal, with no timeline set for the next phase following the initial one in June, the government and mission said. In September last year, President Felix Tshisekedi asked the mission to fast-track the withdrawal of peacekeepers who were deployed to the Central African country to quell insecurity caused by armed groups fighting over territory and resources. Some 3,000-4,000 Rwandan soldiers have been fighting alongside M23 rebels in east DR Congo, said a UN expert report. The North Kivu province has been in the grip of the M23 (March 23 Movement) rebellion since the end of 2021, with the group seizing swathes of territory in the region and installing a parallel regime in areas now under its control. As Congo UN peacekeepers hit pause on their withdrawal, François Picard is joined by Josaphat Musamba, Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Conflict and Development Studies at Ghent University.

Why is congo and the rest of the world don't speak out the rootcauses of the war in the east of congo? M23 movement grievances that made them pick up arms should be addressed as soon as possible through any means necessary preferably with peacetalks ratherthan congo wasting resources on a war it can never win. There's no amount of force can ever defeat a people who are fighting for their own survival and genuine causes that need to be addressed.

But now the government of DRC has reached an extent of denying that M23 are not Congolese! Why can’t they fight for their rights really? For those who do not know what M23 is fighting for please go to RWANDA, UGANDA and KENYA you will see where their famillies live. They have been in refugees camp for almost 30 years. It not hard to understand why they are fighting.

What could Rwandan troops be doing in DRC? DRC playing blame game on Rwanda, will not resolve their internal security issues. The corrupt government of DRC have to come clean about what they are doing in eastern congo that is resulting in the uprising of natives from there who are killed for their appearances and ethinicity. M23 there are congolese no where related to Rwanda not a problem to Rwanda.

It’s funny how they say m23 is trying to control the minerals. The minerals are in its country specifically east Drc their home. They have to capture the minerals first since it is the fuel of Kincasa then they will have a strong negotiating power. Or they won’t even have to negotiate with anyone since those so called minerals are theirs and other fellow Congolese in the first place. If DRC would have protected m23 Rwanda would not be supporting it because there would be no reason for them to fight.
