"memories can never take you back home sweet home you can never go back anymore"., "every happy ending needs to have a start". Great song. The Moody Blues have literally saved my life many times. No matter what troubles in life I faced they had a song to guide me thru.
I'm still on board...been since 1974 since Cpl. Fred McCoy pulled me out of a bad acid trip simply by playing the album " On the threshold of a dream" in Wertheim W. Germany.when I was with the 6 th of 52 ADA / 32nd AADcom.
I was 19 when this came out. The part, "Where the two that know the secret now are one" - this is so profound because it suggests to me an experience I had in 1971 - the Taoist "Yang/Yin" symbol (which is easily googleable) is how I felt (and still realize is true after all these years later).
This for me this is the Moodys most spiritual song. Grew up in the 70's at the time i was an ELP and Yes freak. Liked the Moodys but for some reason had never owned any albums. Well what a treat i prepared for my older self. I never overplayed them so as an adult it was like finding a treasure trove of musical GOLD!
Hayward is an absolute musical genius . Every song he writes is a gem. This is such a wonderful song but not only that he sings it with feeling and passion. The way he says the last few words [YOU CAN NEVER GO HOME ANYMORE] sends a shiver up your spine and you feel at that moment that you really never can go home anymore. Once in a lifetime songwriter

The Moody Blues went with me everywhere I went and helped me during those times. They sang what I was feeling then, especially the song, You Can Never Go Home. I love this song so much.... It's expression of longing and hope never fails to move me. It's truly an inspired tapestry of melody and words that speak of the search for our heart's resting place in this world. Thanks for putting it up for us to enjoy :) Annie
One reviewer I read noted that not only does JH does superb guitar solos live, he steps BACK and just grooves without showboating. But he has always been my guitar hero, never knew an electric guitar could sound so heartrendingly beautiful till I discovered Moodies in '72. Have now seen them live TWICE, what a privilege.
he is so good and I would love to see them all together at least one more time.. I want to go to Vegas so bad to see them but I will never save enough money to make it there.
So cool. I live in Florida but am traveling across country out west to Arizona to my 50th high school reunion in about three weeks (Oct 2016). By happenstance, I saw something on the internet about the band being in concert in Las Vegas in early October. After confirming that they were going to be at the Venetian, I bought two tickets for the their last night in Vegas. A high school girlfriend and I are doing a road trip to Vegas from Phoenix to see them. They are my all time favorite band. I have been a fan since I got out of high school 50 years ago and this will be the first opportunity I will have to see them. I am so stoked I can hardly sleep at night, thinking about seeing their stage show live and not on CZcams online. Wish you could be there.
I sure wish I could be there too I was trying to save money to go in Oct. but that fell by the wayside. I did get to see Justin in May at the egg in Albany. I guess that is as close to them as I will ever get. How lucky you are and your girl make sure you have a good time. How could you not right? God I love those guys. I guess if I had tickets I would be walking on the ceiling. I was planning on winning the lottery and getting front row seats the whole nine yards. We all know how that works.. Have a blast and tell us all about it when you get back and drive slow you don't want to miss that... :}
Hello fellow Moody Blues Fans, I saw Justin perform this during one of his solo tours and he explained that at the time of writing this song he didn’t really know what it was about, but looking back he now thinks it was during a time in his life when the (The Grim Reaper) was visiting people in his personal life, (His Words, not mine) . That’s the beauty of Justin’s solo performances he sometimes explains the inspiration/ meaning of his songs, Some times I try not think about what his songs might mean because for me, I’m worried it might take away the magic his work creates for me, the same goes for playing along and working out the chords too, but sometimes.....I can’t help myself and try and work it all out, maybe it’s the the mystery that makes it that extra special. Anyway, I’ve rambled on long enough, love from Swindon.UK Birthplace of Justin.
Their music has brought me closer to God. Near death 42 years ago. Seventh sojourn pulled my depression out of me. I owe them my life. 69 and still listening
I was a teenager in the early seventies and listened to all the bands of this era. I loved ELP, GENESIS, PINK FLOYD, YES, CAMEL, KING CRIMSON and these wonderful musicians. The Moodies were my faves. There music is timeless. I can always listen to their wonderful songs. I was lucky to see them twice. I'm forever grateful that I did. They will always live on, in my mind and in my soul. Thank-you riversend21 for this post.
hey..I go back to the moody blues on 8 tracks...going to the beach or just riding around in my van....the late '60's...all I wanted to hear was the Moody Blues...love 'em as much today as then...maybe more....
cada vez que escucho esta gran cancion me remite a lo mas sublime de la existencia en este planeta.amo a los moody blues, gracias por tanta musica que brota como un manantial de musica pura en el alma.
Another beautiful song and I just bought the c.d. so now I can play it in my car too. Thanks for posting this I love it and as I have said before, God I love these guys
For all the world's troubles, I've very, very often said (and ment it EVERY TIME!) we ALL just need to listen to the Moody Blues more and we'll figure it all out together as the brothers and sisters we are, have been and always will be. Amen and God bless us, every one!
"And now, this year's inductees into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, The Moody Blues!" Won't that be a sweet sound? Almost as sweet as their enthralling music. Almost.
You are very correct. THIS BAND THAT I HAVE been listening to for 45 years is How to say THE REAL DEAL!! !!! Me and my 14 year old SHIH TZU would listen to this song togather.. It was not a happy time ending though.... when I had to say good bye to MINI.... last 7/5/22 . I still miss him so much....
I was on the Aircraft Carrier "USS Forrestal" in 1973 the first I heard this song. I felt at the time that Justin knew me. "You can never go home" cut to my core. I felt like "all the stars were falling down...to the earth and on the ground" and at the time "angry voices were carrying on the wind." I don't think much as changed. I believe the song means we can't go back to the same thinking that go us here." "Open up your heart and start to be you."
Long ago I had this on 8 track and one night I was tripping out and had this album on continuous play. I heard the whole album over and over for about 12 hours. Kind of burned itself in to my memory for all time
Yes, those two parts of the song are quite moving along with his lead guitar in the background. Justin does things with his guitar that he doesn't have to do and therefore kicks up the dimension and quality of each song a few more notches compared to other producers and musicians. This is one of my favorite compositions.
This is truly a classic song from the Moodies. The lyrics and music contain what the listener wants to believe but for me it represents a deep spiritual truth. Beautiful and another gem from the best band ever. Wonderful video. Best wishes, Tony.
Hey philby49... Me too, and there have been so many changes in the places where we grew up and the world today.... Thankfully we have the music to recall our lives 35 years ago
The divine light of awesomeness created the moody blues. And I am always there to receive there awesomeness. God bless there light that shines on there followers. Amen 🙏🏻
I played this album at least a dozen times (as I did with every release of the Moody Blues up until Seventh Sojourn) when I was a teenager back in '71. Between the Beatles, Cat Stevens and the Moodies, they formed a foundation of caring about life.
I recently went back to where I grew up for a visit, a mistake really, no where was the same roads all changed, just horrible. I was a big MB fan when I grew up there, and whilst visiting a song was running through my mind. Never has it meant so much to me ! I got home to where I live now and played it
This album signaled my change from 8-tracks to cassettes. I had a Panasonic portable cassette player that I put on my transmission hump of my '64 Tempest. First cassette!
PIA, 1975 my roommate Allen Haas brought the Moodys into my life. I've been listening, watching and waiting ever since. Thanks Allen, and I'm so sorry to learn of Sally's passing. I sincerely hope our paths cross again. Richard
In the late 80's I saw them in Atlanta-a REAL treat for all of us old acid rockers all grown up. GROWING up, making love, getting hifh-TRIPPING to this rich music
For those who enjoyed the entire LP of the classic "Every Good Boy Deserves the Favor" (EGBDF to help recollect chords in music) should listen to the album "Grave New World" by Strawbs. Particularly the opening track "Benedictus." When this came out in the 70's -- I thought it was a new track from the Moody Blues it was that intense & beautiful. So good, that New York's legendary WNEW-FM played the entire LP uninterrupted. Something usually reserved only for the privileged artists & that year Strawbs was added. Their history? Sandy Denny was a full time member prior to Fairport, Rick Wakeman went on to Yes & John Hawken -- the original Renaissance keyboardist. The LP has short acoustic interludes but at times they really let loose with incredible folk-progressive rock. Drummer Richard Hudson sounds like he's from the Procol Harum-B.J.Wilson school of drums. Strawbs is known for their Union anthem single "Part of the Union." They should have toured with the Moody Blues.
John, you are absolutely right about these 2 wonderful bands. They both were 2 of my favourite bands, growing up, during my teenage years. I'm 62 now and I still listen to both the Moody Blues and the Strawbs. I was really into prog rock back then....listening to ELP, GENESIS, YES, PINK FLOYD, CAMEL, etc. However these 2 bands were right up there with them.
@Billybob Ireland - Many Strawbs albums are beautifully intense. But this album was clearly exceptional. My favorite was a short tune called "On Growing Older," & the fiery "Tomorrow." Glad you enjoyed it Billybob Ireland.
They are the best have all their music have seen them in concert one I will never forget and yes they have different music than anybody else too bad they are getting old I would buy their music and yes I remember listening to their music partying and it puts you in a place that seemed impossible their music puts you in a good place

It's expression of longing and hope never fails to move me. It's truly an inspired tapestry of melody and words that speak of the search for our heart's resting place in this world.
Thanks for putting it up for us to enjoy :)
Annie
One reviewer I read noted that not only does JH does superb guitar solos live, he steps BACK and just grooves without showboating. But he has always been my guitar hero, never knew an electric guitar could sound so heartrendingly beautiful till I discovered Moodies in '72. Have now seen them live TWICE, what a privilege.
"The Truth Is Gently Falling With The Rain."
A true "Seeker song, seeker song writer, and seeker rock group. Seeker as in seeking the ultimate Truth and then becoming That.
I never get tired of this song.
The main reason i want the Moodies in the Hall of Fame is to see Mike Pinder reunite with the others and see them play live.
I agree I want Mike back he was so great, brought me to tears more than once
he is so good and I would love to see them all together at least one more time..
I sure wish I could be there too I was trying to save money to go in Oct. but that fell by the wayside. I did get to see Justin in May at the egg in Albany. I guess that is as close to them as I will ever get. How lucky you are and your girl make sure you have a good time. How could you not right? God I love those guys. I guess if I had tickets I would be walking on the ceiling. I was planning on winning the lottery and getting front row seats the whole nine yards. We all know how that works.. Have a blast and tell us all about it when you get back and drive slow you don't want to miss that... :}
I agree that would be excellent.
Amazing Song!!! This Is From My Very Favorite Album By The Moodies! 5*s Thankyou...Anita..
One of the Magnificent Seven Albums by the Moodies.
Memories......
hey..I go back to the moody blues on 8 tracks...going to the beach or just riding around in my van....the late '60's...all I wanted to hear was the Moody Blues...love 'em as much today as then...maybe more....
cada vez que escucho esta gran cancion me remite a lo mas sublime de la existencia en este planeta.amo a los moody blues, gracias por tanta musica que brota como un manantial de musica pura en el alma.

my sisterJ joan , and I would listen to this and relate. one of the only times , I will always think of her
For all the world's troubles, I've very, very often said (and ment it EVERY TIME!) we ALL just need to listen to the Moody Blues more and we'll figure it all out together as the brothers and sisters we are, have been and always will be. Amen and God bless us, every one!
"And now, this year's inductees into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, The Moody Blues!"
Won't that be a sweet sound? Almost as sweet as their enthralling music. Almost.
You are very correct. THIS BAND THAT I HAVE been listening to for 45 years is How to say THE REAL DEAL!! !!! Me and my 14 year old SHIH TZU would listen to this song togather.. It was not a happy time ending though.... when I had to say good bye to MINI.... last 7/5/22 . I still miss him so much....
>Remember Abbacchio’s death.
>Try not to cry.
>Cry a lot.
Too good.
who has songs like this...rock, hard and licks and emotion and shaking hard images of life;. yeah right....no one is like these guys.
Long ago I had this on 8 track and one night I was tripping out and had this album on continuous play. I heard the whole album over and over for about 12 hours. Kind of burned itself in to my memory for all time
I love how You can understand what is being sung. Love the moodies
Yes, those two parts of the song are quite moving along with his lead guitar in the background. Justin does things with his guitar that he doesn't have to do and therefore kicks up the dimension and quality of each song a few more notches compared to other producers and musicians. This is one of my favorite compositions.
no better - wonderful
This is truly a classic song from the Moodies. The lyrics and music contain what the listener wants to believe but for me it represents a deep spiritual truth.
Beautiful and another gem from the best band ever.
Wonderful video.
Best wishes,
Tony.
Hey philby49...
Me too, and there have been so many changes in the places where we grew up and the world today.... Thankfully we have the music to recall our lives 35 years ago
Saw them in concert years ago in Long Island GOT HOOKED Great Band forever. PEACE OUT
The divine light of awesomeness created the moody blues.
The. Moody blues...kick. Butt, from the start to thefinish.....rock on!!! Moodies
My go to band when I'm down. Beautiful music.
Beautiful refrain in this song
I recently went back to where I grew up for a visit, a mistake really, no where was the same
roads all changed, just horrible.
I was a big MB fan when I grew up there, and whilst visiting a song was running through my mind. Never has it meant so much to me !
I got home to where I live now and played it
....and oh- Mike Pinders beautiful seque into My Song. Simply stunning.
Here in 2020....... still.
This album signaled my change from 8-tracks to cassettes. I had a Panasonic portable cassette player that I put on my transmission hump of my '64 Tempest. First cassette!
@pauljeffreymiller I am a 41 year old Texan. I have loved the Moodies since I was a little kid. It's great music that never get's old!
GROWING up, making love, getting hifh-TRIPPING to this rich music
pure poetry calming and introspective .
The moody Blues are excellent!
My favorite Moodies album.
Thanks! I always liked the Strawbs but can't remember if i heard this one :D
@Billybob Ireland - Many Strawbs albums are beautifully intense. But this album was clearly exceptional.
My favorite was a short tune called "On Growing Older," & the fiery "Tomorrow." Glad you enjoyed it Billybob Ireland.
@Billybob Ireland - I'm happy you enjoyed it Billybob Ireland. Thanks for the OK's. We'll have to have a pint one day.
They are the best have all their music have seen them in concert one I will never forget and yes they have different music than anybody else too bad they are getting old I would buy their music and yes I remember listening to their music partying and it puts you in a place that seemed impossible their music puts you in a good place
I have six cd's in the car played continually never get tired of their music wonderful
I've been a Moodies fan since 1969. I finally saw them live last month. Better late than never. Those guys are even older than me, and still put on a great show!!
The mind-blowing thing about this song that it was made in 1971.
This is nearly half a century old and it still sounds fresh.
